Man I remember I was traveling in Mexico when their second to last fight was canceled when Tony tripped over the wire and I was freaking out and trying to figure out if it was an April fools joke. I was so fucking devastated. I was looking forward to that so much. And I don’t think Khabib winning was a foregone conclusion at all. Ferguson was so insane even from the bottom with his elbows that it would’ve been a real fucking crazy fight!
@@benlewis5312 shallow? That was probably the 2nd best division at the time. Its shallow compared to now, but fir 2006, it wasn't. It had Bjj black belts, Olympic wrestlers, and juiced out knockout artists. The only deeper division at the time MIGHT of been LHW
“A note before we start these are fighter that we’re general obscure” also said in regional shows ,Silva wasn’t tho. He was far from regional as he was in Pride and other know orgs
silva was a bum with 11 losses who beat nothing but cans with horrible records and skill set silva had 4 losses before he entered the promotion he is a horrible fighter his losses prove it
I only started following MMA last year, but even remember Conor's hype being out of this world. As for Khamzat, he's good but the hype train subsided a little bit. Before Burns he was the "future undisputed MMA goat", "Smesh Usman 'n Izzy... same night", but now it's "In two years time, you'll see".
I wasn’t even a fan of MMA and I knew who Connor was. That’s hype. I try to mention khamzat to very casual fans of boxing and mma and a good amount of them are like “who?”
Khabib I think I had one of the smartest careers out of any fighter, accomplished what he wanted to and proved himself without sustaining a lot of damage throughout his career, and got out while his body and brain were still healthy….runs his own promotions and gym now, he did it right….
@@harsha1989able how? Out of all champions only aljo fake knee and usman are pure wrestlers Ngannou, adesanya, Glover, Oliveira, volkanovski and figuerdo are either BJJ specialists or strikers
Wish Jiri Prochazka was on this list. His hype has died down some because he hasn't fought in awhile (not his fault by the way, after his win over Dominick Reyes the UFC told him directly that they were making his next fight a title fight, and Prochazka had to wait for them to set that fight up) but at the end of 2020 beginning of 2021 his hype was massive, not just for his exciting style and powerful knockouts, but for his whole personality as a person and a fighter.
Pretty goddamn wild not to have Israel Adesanya on this list. He’s extremely accomplished outside of MMA but with your criteria of “relatively obscure to the general MMA audience” he should probably be top 3-5. Great list otherwise!
Eh, lately atleast Isreal has been getting alot more attention. He's more mainstream then ppl think but I agree he should be on here definitely. Fun ass fighter to watch
To call Conor a hype train is right and wrong, yes he had a load of hype coming in but he went undefeated at featherweight and then stopped Jose in the first round and then to go on and whoop Eddie at lightweight, I know the last few years he hasn't been the best but in fairness to the man he beat the featherweight & lightweight champions in the best MMA organisation no questions asked.
@@hellotron9118 Don't know if sarcasm or not. But still, most of his losses came after he decided to keep fighting past his prime. Can't compare him to guys like Khabib and GSP.
We? I definitely didn’t think that was going to happen, but yea he was taken hostage by the Jon Jones hate train where people just desperately wanted anyone to dethrone him
@@Khonnell66 Almost bizarre nobody even tried to replicate that blueprint against Woodley. Even Kamaru Usman, who utterly dominated Woodley simply did his own thing against him.
@@yourstruly1503 he sounds like he's doing an audiobook. Plus, he keeps his mouth really close to the mic, so you get this weird "asmr" shite going on, when you can hear his damn spit rolling around in his mouth. It's disgusting, I really can't watch any videos with him narrating.
@@laurbster2680 Are you drunk 🥴? Khamzat in his 11th MMA fight just beat the #2 ranked Welterweight fighter in the world. As of now the only one who can beat Khamzat is literally Usman and maybe Colby. Everyone else Khamzat eats for breakfast.
Definitely not a total bust. He didn't fight for a belt, but he's been mixing wins and losses with some of the best guys in the division since day 1. Before the latest Strickland fight he was on a 4 fight win streak. in terms of hype train, yeah that got derailed immediately in his first two UFC fights.
Uriah had the talent, if he could only get over his fear of getting hit. As a result of this, Uriah's entire fight plan consists of sitting back and waiting to counter, so when fighters don't feed into this, he either gets beat or the fight is a boring fight that goes the distance where the decision could go either way. It's a testament to uriah's talent because I'm pretty sure there haven't been too many stand up fighters who've been afraid of getting hit to the degree that Uriah is who've made it to the UFC level. And from what I gather that's not something you can really teach, it seems to be something you either have or don't, but that's what has held Uriah back and prevented him from ever being a contender.
Funny thing is, its a similar reason why Francis Ngannou became so popular so quickly. But Francis actually lived up to his potential and fulfilled his destiny.
I really like Uriah despite his ups and downs. He looks like a very humble guy and to this day he's one of the few human being that ever koed that monster Gegard Mousasi
Good pick with Erick Silva. This channel is a bit of a hype train too Why Forest Griffin is on this list I have no idea. Nobody expected him to beat Tito or compete with any of the top 5 after winning TUF. We all knew his fights against Bill Mahood and Elvis Sinosic were complete jobber matches
When Uriah Hall Ko'ed Gegard mousasi with flying knee i thought he had finally came back or had finally let go of the mental chains...man it sucked to see him afterwards...
The channel should be called "UFC on point" because it only covers The UFC, not any other MMA competition/league/promotion company. MMA does exist outside of the UFC
Ol gyno tits? Gastelum stuff tie to toe with Izzy. He was scared of Yoel. Now he’s “decision, win by points Titty”… and he lost to Bobby last night. Gtfoh

@@devinburkett9036 Pimblett is the future goat! Reminds me of Anderson Silva with his defense, Ngannou with his power, Khabib with his ground game and has the most amazing chin the game has ever seen. Plus his striking is crisp and varied.

I appreciate having Sean O'Malley in this because he has become one of my top favorite fighters. This last year he put on freaking awesome performances. I cant wait to see his future, no matter the outcome, O'malley is always exciting to watch. I go back and watch tge striking record he broke and put on a clinic, showed his endurance, striking diversity, output, accuracy % 🤘🏼🥊💥
It is weird that most people don’t realize that Dana’s primary job, is just being a UFC salesman. Like, people believe what he says all the time. Its like when the car salesman swears that “this is the best car on the lot....you have a good eye.” 🙄
I remember this Forrest Griffin fight when I was a teenager but honestly I think Bonner didn’t really like the spotlight at all that’s why he faded away
McGregor definitely deserves number 1, I never appreciated him at the time but I do now, 2013-2016 best fighter on earth....annnnd queue the haters who are more obsessed with McGregor than his famboys.
My heart sheds a tear every time I hear some dumbass claim the Khabib/Tony fight was taken from us. Naw, we were SAVED from having to see that shit show. 5 times the MMA gods stepped in and told us "yo this isn't gonna go the way yall think." I'm so glad that never happened cause I actually like Tony now
Tbf I think Khamzat should be number 1. Conor was massive in strikeforce and took a few fights for the hype to become huge. Khamzat came from no where and became the biggest thing in the UFC in literally 2 weeks.
A woman I was dating in college (who was much older than I) used to date Forrest griffin. I happened to be watching some old ufc videos and she saw the TUF 1 finally, having never seen a fight before, and goes “that looks like this guy named Forrest.” I almost pooped my self
4:19-4:20 nice low-key troll of DC! It's as if Daniel 'that was crazy' Cormier is attempting to set and then beat his own World Record for times speaking the word 'crazy.'
This video has just reminded me more why I can't stand rogan. Seems like every entry had rogan pegging him as the "new" up and coming fighter. I'm all for weed. But this man smoked himself stupid years ago.
It’s incredible that O’Malley has so many fans when he is so unbearable to everyone on earth that except guys who still wear affliction shirts around the trailer park.
Uriah hall had the talent to be a champion, but he was never able to overcome his fear of getting hit. As a result of being afraid of getting hit, his fight style was/is to sit back and counter, which is such a waste of his talent... anytime he fights a fighter who doesn't feed into it, he either gets beat or the fight goes the distance and ends up being a boring split decision that could go either way. I would have to look it up but he had a lot of those fights. It's rare for a fighter who's afriad of getting hit to the degree that Uriah Hall is to have even a small amount of success, but that's a testment to Uriah's talent. I'm pretty sure that this is either something you have or you don't.
I can't put Forrest on this list, without that fight MMA doesn't blow up like it did n the rest of these guys never become as popular as they are bc the sport isn't as popular.
Great video but the background noise in the first half messed with me for some reason. Making me look around the room "what the hell is that dinging noise" 🤣🤣
I feel like a lot of the newer fighters are just good at branding themselves. Suga Sean streams on twitch, has a podcast, goes live on social media, etc.
Wait a minute he said 60gs then I think someone over at ea needs to fix something in ufc4 with one of the quotes in the game also connor made most of his hype but his cage warriors fans definitely helped hype him to
