I agree wholeheartedly that it's a manga reference then, tbh when I ran into that npc I laughed remembering the manga, but I also thought it was in the originals so I didn't put much thought other than the laugh. Now I love it even more
Wait, when I saw Yellow the Psyduck it made me think of the fact that Psyduck was considered for the other Let's Go mascot but wasn't chosen because he and Pikachu were both yellow! Crazy how one little moment could have so many references
9:35 Hi Toby, I actally want to add to this. After you catch Dialga/Palkia and leave with Professor Rowan and Dawn, there is a scene with Professor Rowan on his own where he says “No one has the right to take away anyone’s future or anyone’s world” with his back to the camera. Sometimes in media when someone says something without their face being shown it can alude to a secret or to create a sense of mystery and speculation. Maybe it could foreshadown his ancestor in the galactic exploration team being the antagonist in legends arceus and he is ashamed of it, or maybe even something he has done. Its probably a big stretch but thought it would be fun to share my thoughts and speculate!
@@tomcooney2842 The problem with this one however, is the timespan that is mention Team Galatic was a thing 5 years, so they existed before Red won the Pokemon League, while Rowan has been away for four years and the gap between the Kanto and Johto games is three years. So Rowan already left Sinnoh before the events in Johto. Considering the events of Johto are mentioned in Sinnoh happening recently, it means Dawn/Lucas/Barry started there journeys when Ethan/Lyra/Kris/Silver were halfway through their journeys and we knew that Rowan was already back in Sinnoh by then, so he couldn't be present during the Red Gyarados events.
@@clupos74 not really, but content tends to get calmer after a few months whithout a new game. Not a bad thing, but it's noticeable when the hype comes with a new release!
This new sinnoh myth really got me hyped! And a new hisuian form/evolution for qwillfish would be great as it hasn't got any attention since it came out in gen 2
I love watching Toby get distracted and carried away by tangents, it just shows how much creativity he has and how much he loves doing this, keep up the amazing work Toby!!
The "evolved" statue is a fun little Easter Egg! It might be just as simple as showing that this is an "evolved" version of the DP games. Part of me hopes it means there will be a Hisuian Snorlax, though...
I’m excited for legends arceus. If the game turns out really good, then I would hope they would continue this type of game with covering the history of each region
I wish rotor was available earlier in game, especially after it’s been so prevalent the last few gens as your dex, your phone, your bike, it actually makes me wonder what Rotom would be like in the Hisui Region
Disagree with having Rotom being the Dex and all that being better for a couple reasons, the main one being based on Rotom being that in games that came AFTER this in canon having that feature. Same reasoning as why Darkrai isn’t available as a legendary. That didn’t exist then. Rotom is a Pokémon, not a technology. I never liked Rotom having its autonomy taken away to make it many different technological marvels.
@@DarthBagheera I might be failing to see where you disagree. I never said it was better, just saying after the past few games I’ve gotten used to the little ghost popping up in important items and it was odd not to see it especially with something like the pokétch which is absolutely perfect for the rotom treatment given the nature of the gadget and Pokémon Here’s to wishing Hisui gives us like a little golem form for it that can be ground/electric or something so we can see how it would act (or what it would possess) without the more modern accommodations we are familiar with.
I think the church mural is def Arceus. I mean, we're used to seeing it from the side, not head on (and let alone flat) so of course it's going to not look right to us, but you also have to remember that it's an interpretation likely made by someone who had never seen the actual pokemon, so like the statue of dialga and palkia that are fused and wrong, it's also going to have a few things that are off about it, but enough similarities for us as the player to recognize (much like how 2 of the 3 leviathans in botw are unknown to the characters but recognizable to the player who knows the legends lost to the characters, while the 3rd is lost even to us). it could be that it's a sort of origin form that we won't get to see until legends (even more like the 3rd leviathan, currently unknown to us) but I think it's likely just what it looks like. a head on interpretation of a poke god that the artist had never personally seen, only likely described in a strange and inaccurate way, like the middle ages attempting to describe foreign animals to each other and getting them hilariously wrong. but only time will tell! I do kinda hope it's an origin form tho, it looks pretty dope tbh, although I'm half hoping for a morph from beta arceus unto ether that or normal arceus lmao
For #5, I am quite hopeful Legends Arceus could help us figuring some things up. Because it seems the link between Rowan and Team Galactic may run deeper than we previously thought.
Mr. Ballen's channel is awesome! I watch him, you, and Obsolete Oddity the most on here. I love that you mentioned the library one. I was surprised by that. I think save data of BDSP and Arceus will get us Arceus in BDSP and access to whichever box legendary you have the save data for in Arceus, and acess to the distortion world for both games. One can only hope at least. lol
#8 reminds me of the movie with latias and latios which took place in something looking like venice, maybe it could really be a hint for gen 9 having italy as a region

As I was watching this, I was heading up route 217 and found a Ghost Girl in one of the houses. A little north east of the spot where you find Rock Climb, there's a house with a girl that gives you the Spell Tag. When you exit and re-enter, she's gone. Not sure if this was in the originals (never played them), but it reminded me of all your Ghost Girl theories.
The whole thing with "Quilfish with huge spikes" within the Sea Legend may hint at Quilfish getting a regional Hisuian Variant and/or a regional evolution. One of the riddler type leakers even hinted at this a while back if I'm not mistaken. As always, take this with a grain of salt if you will.
Good to know they weren't so faithful that they'd neglect some references to other games! Can't wait to see your Easter eggs video for pokemon legends Arceus.
The new book in the Canalave Library is pretty neat, makes me wish there was some kind of Pokémon Ranger remaster or port to go along with this game to get Manaphy once the BDSP early purchase gift ends
It's awesome once you know about it... It's not awesome to imagine someone trying to figure that out without just looking it up on the internet like I did...
I miss the ability to put a second game cartridge into my console and have that have unique effects on the game I'm actually playing. Easily the best feature of the DS era.
Just found this channel, love it so far!! Nothing like a day off and a RU-vid rabbit hole to accompany the endless "wasted" hours I finally have to play BD!
Good catch with the new book in Canalave! Manaphy is a favorite of mine, so seeing it have in-game lore beyond the old Pokemon Ranger mission is a big win in my book.
Darn Team Snooze running into my headcannon again!: Munchlax Rock was always a Snorlax Rock, just the tied lowers and rises. And now we at least know where Team Snooze's Shinno Base of Operations is!
I didn’t notice the new sinnoh folk story until this video but I went to read it and it specifically mentioned that it was an “ancient text” that was recently decoded, which just screams Legends Arceus to me. Also, the emphasis on Qwilfish’s “huge spikes” could definitely indicate a new hisuian form. It also mentioned a sea gate, which could be that weird stone arch shown in the ocean a few times in trailers. This new story is so interesting!
I’m excited to see how many things become clear references to Legends Arceus after getting to play through that story; maybe there’s more text/speech that references things we don’t know will happen yet!
10:00 - Rowan was teaching Sycamore to be a professor. 13:00 - That's Gogh's "Starry Night Over the Rhône," it was painted a year before "Starry Night". It's proof of gen 6 remakes, as he died in France & the Rhone is a French river.
my personal favorite isn't really intentional but it's how in BDSP you can glitch your way to Newmoon island with your bike... because in DPP you had the Void Glitch which was also using the bike to get to new moon island... It kinda reminds me of how when they remade Occarina/Majora for the 3ds they left in some of the bugs for the sake of nostalgia...
that church easter egg to me it does look like a arceus from the front looking out, it does look like it is doing the splits over the door way, it looks like it is rearing up on its back legs, with those bits going from the middle sticking out and up being the ring around its waste. it feels more like someone discribed a arceus rather than saw one, hence why it looks slightly different
While I agree that the idea of Rowen as the leader of team galactic is funny and maybe not the most plausible, it is really interesting that he not only knows about Rotom, but knows the part of the story with the toy robot as well. This may indicate some relationship between Rowan and Cyrus. Maybe as friends, family, or an apprenticeship sort of situation. I don't know if there is any specific lore that I am missing from other games like Pokemon masters, but it would be interesting to see if there is any connection that has been overlooked between them.
The painting reminds me of the illumise and volbeat scene from the mystery dungeon Explores of Sky/Time/Darkness. These came out during Gen 4 and may hint at another remake for the mystery dungeon games
I've noticed a few npc's that allude to the past; a Galactic grunt saying something like "I'll send you back to a time before pokemon!" and another trainer in a building or cave somewhere (I forget, don't shoot) mentioning something about "ancient times". Perhaps these, and probably others that I've missed, might be hints/references to Legends Arceus locations or lore maybe?
For #8, the two black figures on the painting remind me of Latias and Latios. I seem to recall that they were drawn in a similar way occasionally. Maybe we got some similar art for the 5th Pokemon movie? Not sure why these two specifically would be in a Sinnoh game, though. Been a while since I did anything with Pokemon, so I might be mis-remembering it. Anyway, thanks for all these videos. I'm thinking of getting back into Pokemon and the lore is always a big part of games for me, so I'm liking your videos very much. Even with me no longer playing the more recent Pokemon games, I still come back to the lore. It's really interesting how much though went into the creation of the world. They did a great job with it and you do as well with presenting it to us.
Hmm, these are some pretty cool Easter eggs, I want to add to this that when you go to Gamefreak and talk to the director he says "Ciao!", which is Italian for hello. Great video.😊🤗
When you realize that starry night painting isn't the only Van Gogh reference in Pokemon games - Violet and Scarlet's trainer house has a painting of a street with red flowers, a painting of windmills, a painting of a dancer, and a vase with yellow flowers right underneath the painting of the street with red flowers - I think these are all references to Van Gogh and by association the Netherlands, and I think it's going to be Gen 10, not to mention the Pokemon company pairing up and working with the Van Gogh Museum in the Netherlands and Junichi Masuda going to the Netherlands recently and posting about it...
5:00 Actually Rotom is available as soon as you get the National Pokedex which only requires you to have SEEN every Pokemon and visited Eterna City for the First Time. Once HOME Compatibility is added you can complete the Dex as you as you get it and once you reach Eterna then head back to Sandgem and get the National Dex off of him and then beat Gardenia then you can get Rotom as soon as you meet Lucas/Dawn at the end of Cycling Road.
I just love the textures of certain areas. Like the flower valley in Floaroma town, I spent hours there walking with my pokemon because it was so pretty.
Considering that I probably won't be playing these games till around Christmas.....I look at these videos so when I see it in game I can say "oh! That's what they were talking about!"
One of my favorite things about Toby is that he always seems to have a different perspective than a lot of the other popular poketubers. Seems like everyone else is recycling the same info
Star bits are a reference to a type of sugar candy (Konpeito) in japanese culture. It's why you see that shape so much in their media. It's similar to how pretzels are elsewhere. The shape is iconically recognizable as one even if the material and circumstance don't point to it. The shape is just something easily called back too because it's so unique.
I think we'll definitely see Manaphy content in Legends Arceus. Why else would they add it? But I also think it'd be great to do this for all of the mythicals and legendaries. Imagine a mission where you have to travel to both the New Moon and Full Moon Islands due to disturbances in a nearby town (children's night terrors, falling asleep at strange times, etc.)
When talking about the church or arceus and the stone carvings outside on the church I believe this to be a hint little teaser at the new unobtainable form Arceus will have in Pokemon Legends! Yes it for sure looks humanoid but I think that's the point. ;)
The theory about Professor Rowan maybe having... what fled Team Plasma four years before the game? I think that's really interesting, and I can't believe I haven't heard about it from anyone else before. Also, I would absolutely love to see a whole video about the main series games and remakes timelines, honestly... I love meta talk about time in general, though, so there's that. (Probably an unpopular opinion, but I think a "like button" would make for an interesting Starter. At least, more interesting than a Metapod...)
I think that the entrance mural Cathedral in #6 is just that of a more anthromorphized version of Arceus than anything [as no one has seen him in the flesh for hundreds of years most likely, and it helps bridge the understanding faith gap by 'humanising' him in this way]. [Will be sweet as if there's a new form revealed in Legends though!]
Super cool video!! I picked Chimchar as my starter and reset until I got an adamant nature… was going to try to shiny hunt but I didn’t want to go through it.
