Hey Harli! I'm an occupational therapist and I have my patients water the plants in the gym ALL the time as part of my sessions! Recently, we got told we are no longer allowed to keep plants in the hospital because of the bacteria in the soil. I am looking forward to trying some of these "soil free" plant ideas with my patients!

I recently learned that pothos can grow in a fish tank! Just the roots, so you have to find a way to attach it to the rim of your tank to keep the leaves out. It's good for the pothos and it helps with the fish tank water! Bonus!

A tip with bamboo one of mine started to go yellow because of the water in my area.. so when I want to change the water I'll take how much I need the day before to let the chlorine I think it is evaporate (I'm no expert lol) and they've been good so far. I also collect rainwater for my calathea (who hates my tap water 😂) and its been thriving since. Highly recommended collecting rainwater if you can 👌😊

Fluoride in the water kills many plants as well. For my plants in water I use Crystal Geyser or Essentia Water. Our tap water is fluoridated 6 months out of the year. Lake water for 6 months & well/public water 6 months. Most all of my plants despise our tap and fully filtered water is dead water to a plant. It has zero nutrients or minerals. Can literally kill some of my plants in 1-2 days.

Hey Harli. I have that lucky bamboo also in water and pebbles. If you want to, you could cut of the new shoots from the main stem (cane?) and root them. I discarded the old roots and stem (cane?). I personally liked the look better without the cut cane showing. I bought it this way and when it got too tall, I chopped it and started again. Love the orange roots! Okay, so I also love water to keep plants in. I’ve been having issues with syngonium getting super slimy within a day. I’ve used tap water, distilled water, filtered water, and spring water. All with and without liquidirt. Literally the only plant I’ve had this issue with. Any suggestions or similar experience?
@ZombixMix
@ZombixMix 2 года назад
I’m not an expert but my educated guess is that there’s a bacteria (a common cause for slime) living on the plant, and therefore switching out the water doesn’t matter because it just spreads again. I’ve used a hydrogen peroxide solution to “sterilise” the soil of some of my plants, and I wonder if you could use that to sterilise plants in water too, might do the trick!
