I just have to say, 7 years ago I stumbled as a new wife on your page. I was always drawn towards women who had class and seemed polished, but needed practical tips to be more like them. So when I stumbled across your videos, and started applying these methods, I began receiving compliments. Over the years, I have been introduced in rooms full of people before speaking, and they have mentioned I am gracious and classy. Of course, I am not trying to boast. Only to come back and say “THANK YOU!” for these great examples on how to clean up our act, polish ourselves, and how to best serve those around us. It has served me well. It has also reflected well on my husband who owns a real estate brokerage. Thank you!

Thank you Tracy for these tips! As a recent cancer survivor I have two additional tips. Firstly, If you are not in the medical profession do not pressure your friends to follow your medical advice. Reading articles written by doctors does not qualify you to pressure someone to follow your suggestions. Secondly, please do not share with someone who has a disease any stories of someone you know who died of that disease. These things happened to me and it wasn't helpful.

Tracy, thank you so very much for this valuable video!! Yes, I need more! Two big take aways from the video for me were: 1) I was taught to purchase children's clothing, to be gifted, in larger sizes. I will quickly "un-learn" this rule! 2) I am guilty of not really, really, really listening and absorbing what others are telling me. This is on ME for being disrespectful. Your advice just simply makes us better people, if we utilize it. Who wouldn't want that?!

Oh goodness Tracy. This is so good! I went to modeling, etiquette and manners school in high school. I am now 49. This is all spot on! I’ve been mocked at times for how classy I strive to be. I ve been criticized from how I dress to how I address people to how I present myself at a party or event. I just don’t understand that at all. One thing that drives me bonkers is someone interrupting while someone else is talking. Anyway I so enjoy ALL of your videos! God bless and have a great weekend Tracy.

Thanks for sharing this. I encounter the same…. I’m told often I’m classy. Growing up my Mom and grandmothers taught me it’s better to be overdressed than underdressed. Dressing for the occasion is important. As a nurse wearing scrubs most of the time I do dress up on off days. My friends initially were offended until I shared my reasoning. Now one friend that would dress sloppy for lunch in Little Rock now dresses better.

Oh, Tracy! I just went to a dinner party last night! I was reflecting on this video and your "Dining Etiquette 101" video. It's really amazing how people are really not aware of what is off-putting and not proper. During the whole meal, we had two people comment over and over about how slow the staff was and bad the food was... "I will never come here again!". I cringed the whole time and was tempted to show them these videos.

As a 52 year old woman, YES, please continue to make these kind of videos. I lost my mom when I was in my early twenties and she never covered these kinds of things for me. I have learned some the hard way unfortunately. Any advice for social settings or business would be appreciated.

Your content should be curriculum in schools. ☺️ I had the same Home Economics teacher all 4 years in high school. She’s probably one of the classiest ladies I’ve ever known. Her sayings still stick with me all these years later. One thing in particular she would say is something I’ve heard you say. She would always tell us to never comment on the food someone was eating. Through the years if I ever hear someone say, “oh, that’s disgusting” I cringe a little, even if it’s not my food they are talking about. I could go on and on. I just want to encourage you to keep putting this type of thing out there. We are listening and learning. 🎀

Tracy, I love your closing statement so much. 31:35 I am in my early 30's. I did not have the blessing of having this guidance poured into me during my childhood. But your advice and coaching fills a huge gap in my upbringing and has a continuous impact in my adult life. We don't know what we don't know, but it's wonderful when someone, as poised and polished as you, turns on the light bulb. Now we can see these actions for what they truly are. I think that chewing gum in public lowers your perceived IQ by at least 30 points! 🙂Re badmouthing businesses: unless there is malice or gross negligence, let's give 2nd chances. I know an executive in a large company who thinks nothing of tearing down a restaurant in online reviews. Would we want our mistakes plastered for all to see? Times are so tough....I like your philosophy of giving grace.

You are so on point with all you share. There's a lot I need to be reminded of, so you are on repeat! I would like to add, be careful of the statement, "Is there anything I can do for you." I've had this vague offer and called them on it and they couldn't help, It was a relative, when my mom was sick in the hospital. I asked if she could watch my young son for a couple of hour. I did live out of town. Maybe that was asking too much. I learned when reaching out to someone, to ask, "Can I ....for you." This lets them know what I'm comfortable and willing to do to help.

You just cannot go wrong with good manners & etiquette. The past 2 weeks I've been helping an acquaintance who was recently widowed. She is needing help decluttering and dealing with her beloved husband's possessions. I give so much credit to the etiquette & manners influencers, including Tracy, on RU-vid for helping me say the right things in this situation. For the most part, it has involved a lot of listening, but 10 years ago I would not have had the skills to handle this delicately.♥️🇨🇦

I especially love your intro in this video, and how you mentioned that people can have different opinions without being wrong. People challenging others on their beliefs is one of my biggest pet peeves and is so abundant nowadays. I work at a hospital and when patients check in with me, some of them use their middle name or other name that friends and family call them which is totally different to what I have on the system. It annoys me because I can’t find them and they just assume I should know this. A different side of the story. Anyway, thank you Tracy. Love your tips as I know you have got it all together. Just so you know I normally listen to your videos while doing house chores or watching whole prepping food so making time count😉

Please do more of these videos! I love it! Sometimes I feel that in certain situations I’m not communicating very well maybe because English is my second language and also cultural differences. What might be rude to one person it’s completely okay for another yet I feel you manage to find the middle ground and manage to say things without offending anyone. I even googled what is a faux pas just to have a better understanding (the meaning absolutely came through in your video I was just making sure I use this phrase correctly in the future). I learn a lot from these videos and also your stories so please keep them coming! We are lucky to have you! 💕

Oh my, how I agree with your WAIT tip. I truly understood it when I shared with a collegue at work that I was going on a trip to Rome (I live in Italy) during small talk at the end of my shift. He replied "I really don't envy you, Rome makes me sick, I find it ghastly". I found that reply so rude and unecessary that I refrained from sharing anything about my trips with anyone at work, him especially. It also made me aware of how careful we need to be when expressing our opinion, because I really don't want to make other people feel the way my collegue made me feel with that phrase.

You're very thoughtful in sharing these tips. I have a few ideas that you can talk about if you make another video like this. My husband despises seeing people licking their fingers when eating, preparing food, serving food and when going through a buffet line. We also have friends who have indoor pets that have odors and he refuses to visit their home when invited. I never know how to graciously decline their invitation. Also, some friends are extremely health conscious and do not use antiperspirant or deodorant so they have body odor. We never say anything, but feel embarrassed for them. They appear to be clean, I think becuase of the aluminum in antiperspirants is the reason they refuse to use it.

Thank you Tracy! I always appreciate you showing us tidbits of life as you see it from “your lens”. Almost sixty here and I feel that it’s never too late to improve our manners and how we present ourselves to others. I think the hardest one for me, has been to learn to validate and acknowledge somebody else’s pain. Sometimes, people have given me their bad news very suddenly and going through the shock of the news makes it difficult to find the proper words of comfort. Many times I just stay quiet and listen and it seems to help.

Dear Tracy 🌺 Thank you for doing a wonderful job and taking the time to put this very valuable information in video. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 I was taught basic etiquette at a young age, and I've met so many people who have never understood basic etiquette. This needs to be brought into all schools and that every child needs to learn this at a young age. I find it to be shocking to see some many people lacking basic etiquettes today, and let's not forget it's downright distasteful and rude. On your marker 32.31, you talked about why one should never invalidate anyone's feelings by saying, "I know how you feel!". This really fries me mad. Tracy, you are 100000% RIGHT! 👍🏽 No one should NEVER ever say that, regardless of what they think. We all have different experiences, and we all react to things differently; but mostly, they don't live in my body, and they are not feeling what I am feeling. What they're really doing It's invalidating me and my feelings. I lost my mother 12 years ago, and the pain still cuts me deep like it was yesterday. Every time I talk about her, I tear up; and I hear over and over so many times people telling me, "I know how you feel!" This not only makes me angry, but it really hurts me every time I hear that. I feel this to be extremely insensitive, rude, and disrespectful, just as if they had slap me in the face! You are so bang on and correct to say what you said. Everyone needs to ZIP it!! Because they don't know what they don't know. Just like pigs don't know that they stinks! And once again you are so very correct to say: I'm sorry for your loss if there's anything I can do for you, please let me know as I would like to be there for you. This would mean so much more and comforting than an insensitive remark. Tracy, if you're ever in Vancouver, BC, Canada, please reach out to me as I would love to take you out for lunch to say thank you!!! Tracy, I think I understand what you mean about wearing black. It can be a very chic color. I was taught when in doubt, go for a little black dress! It can accentuate a woman’s sleek hair, highlights, accessories, makeup and jewelry. The little black dress is timeless and never goes out of fashion. You can keep it in your wardrobe for 10 years because it doesn’t date, yet I don’t think I would want to turn up to the same event seeing 12 women wearing a similar dress in the same color. Kind of looks like a uniform!

All of these are so good and so spot on! I just love your wisdom, Tracy! I have experienced a lot of these as well. In planning my children’s birthdays, I usually don’t get a lot of help because people will ask what they can bring the day before. I have typically already gotten everything at that point. I have learned that if I want something brought or if I need help, to communicate that clearly and ahead of time. Also, our neighbors will shorten my husbands name so when they ask about him, I literally have to think for a moment & think who are they talking about? This video also came out at a good time for me because my husband & I were talking a few days ago about another faux pas you have mentioned in the past, buying perfume for someone! Every year my parents will gift me Perfume for my birthday and Christmas. I just smile and say thank you but don’t open any of them since the scents would agitate my sinuses. My husband says that they are just wasting money but I am trying to be polite. Is there a polite way that I can tell them to stop buying the perfume?

Thank you for sharing. I can only hope that your message gets read so that people who would like to help offer earlier. As for the perfume faux pas - Anything scented is a risky gift, especially a product you apply to the body. I encourage you to communicate with your parents now, instead of once the holiday season and shopping begins. You can attempt to communicate discreetly and indirectly first and see if it seems your parents picked up on it. That is typically the approach that I take.

I have significant skin allergies to fragrances. I tell my family this, in part because I don't want them to gift me fragranced items. For those friends of mine who like to gift me things on occasion, I'll sneak a little phrase (like "I have a skin allergy to fragrances") into a conversation, and it seems to work. 😊 Hoping you can find a solution before the holiday shopping begins. 🤗

I agree with you. People crave connection with other people. That is what the word "relationship" means - ourselves in relation to others. It is human nature and it should not be stifled, but instead developed and fine-tuned. Sharing your own story and experience with another person who is receptive is a fundamental and crucial skill in building relationships among us and is an expression of empathy and love. It is how we connect with others on a deep, meaningful level. It is sad to see some people reluctant to do so in the name of "being proper". Just be real. Life is short. I assume these stories are all based in personal experience, and the fact they resonate with people is incredible to me. I haven't lived that long yet, so maybe I haven't had so many faux pas, it's crazy to think people would shorten someone's name, bring a plant or buy something for someone WITHOUT ASKING FIRST! Communication is the biggest lesson I'm learning here from you.

So needed, Tracy, especially people chiming in with their bad experiences. Also someone in my life would give me something valuable they don't want like a diffuser (hey! I'm not using this, do you want it?) Sure, then when I try to get it going I realize it's broken. Also sometimes the same person would give me non perishables only to realize they are expired. 🙄 so, I REALLY appreciate thoughtful gift givers!
