Turned out really well in the end, it's a shame I don't have an epic skyline like yours to try this with

Very interesting, but what's intriguing me is that you have to take a photosensitive paper, being stressed about not letting it get light on it, so you're in a dimmly lit room, and then blast it with a powerful scanner light! ;)
@MatthewVandeputte
@MatthewVandeputte 3 года назад
Yes and no, that's why you do the pre-scan to minimise the exposure!

@@MatthewVandeputte I haven't used a scanner in very long time, so I don't get what this prescan actually does... :) But looking at your video, I guess the scanning process took about 20s? So, I'm wondering how sensitive is this paper? Like an ISO equivalent... I guess it's pretty low, considering it has to withstand the light intensity of the sun for so long. Probably I wouldn't be stressed out because of light exposure in a ordinary room... of course, I woudn't let it sit around for tens of minutes :)

Idk what Solarcan uses but usually the iso of paper like this is Crazy low soo you really can’t destroy it in minutes when it has been exposed for months

Dag vetzak 😅 Great result! Was wondering when (and mostly, HOW you were gonna retrieve) the solar can would come up again.

10million seconds? How about 250 million seconds. Not long after seeing this video I ran across an article from December 2020 about a student at University of Hertfordshire in who made a pinhole camera back in 2012 and forgot about it for 8 years! Amazingly, the camera survived and didn't get destroyed by moisture.

I just recently found out about solargraph photography and I am so fascinated with it! Can't wait to make my first pinhole camera, thank you for sharing this video with us! 🌞👍

I still can't believe how crappy results from those solarcans are. For something sold at this price, with a laser-cut pinhole, to be beaten by pretty much every enthusiast DIYing their camera with a needle is hilarious, especially considering the company founder's ego and claims he "invented" it, while he simply copied an existing idea to mass produce. :D

Thanks mate! No line = full cloud. Partial or dotted lines = cloud moving in front of the sun. Question: beers when?

Wow!! I'm really considering trying this out. I don't have a scanner though, so what would be the best way to get a scan when it's done?
@MatthewVandeputte

You could shoot a photo with your phone and then invert that, but maybe borrow a scanner?

Was feeling the tension myself when you opened the can and make the print. Perfect choice of background music as well :) Never before heard of this type of photographing i think, and i really dont know what to say, but i love it. 4 months of the sun's movement across the sky, in one picture. Mind blowing, and super fun to see the photo. Congrats on the result :)

@MatthewVandeputte

... Did you watch the video?
@ygrabo
@ygrabo 3 года назад
@@MatthewVandeputte yes I did, that's why I am confused. Photographic film, still sensitive to light, that creates an image without developing (and fixing)... and is then scanned is with light. I understand the film is probably the equivalent of ISO10 or so, but how an image appears without developing is mysterious to me. Unless it's a different, new technique.

That is a great success for a first attempt. Are you motivated to have another go, say over six weeks either side of the summer solstice? Add some tilt to center the sun on the image? Did you try a second scan to compare with the first? Did the scanner really destroy the image on first scan or is there some more life in that? Perhaps a series of scans could produce something new? Disintegration Loops? Your patience was well rewarded. Nice result!

wowwwwwww!!!! That turned out absolutely amazing my friend. I was so happy for you, once the anticipation and the wait of the scan was successful. Great to see you so happy Matthew, from a happy Members point of view.
