Malignant's insane final twist saves an otherwise horrible movie. For more awesome content, check out: whatculture.com/ Follow us on Facebook at: / whatculture Catch us on Twitter: / whatculture
Same. I always thought that the twist even deeper. Evan’s mom said she had several miscarriages before he came to term. This would mean that each of his unborn siblings went through the same journeys and decided to themselves as well.
To me, it's one of those films that despite all of the criticism it received, I just flat out enjoyed watching and rewatching it. I'm not sure critics take that into account, but it almost begs to be watched multiple times.
Yeah i agree with that theory because as i got older i made the mistake of re-watching some of my favorite movies that i thought were amazing only for them to be ruined due to my brain being like "Well THAT'S not even remotely possible..." So basically I've learned my lesson and now I'm content to just love those movies for what they were: awesome at that time & age of my life and so i don't bother re-watching them for fear of ruining my good memories 😀👍
Fun caveat to The Butterfly Effect one: earlier in the movie, he explains his mother's overprotectiveness by explaining that she had several miscarriages before she had HIM. That begs the question how many other children have made the same decision Evan did?
Thanks for joining the dots for me I knew about that but had never thought of it that way. It adds an extra layer to a film I really like and makes me wonder if that was his destiny all along. Maybe eventually one of the babies would decide to be selfish and just let the changes happen.
Can’t stand the hate for Butterfly Effect. We only saw it with the director’s ending, and the meaning is not the one given here. He didn’t kill himself in the womb because his time travelling had messed things up. He did it because he realised (as his father and grandfather had) that he was never meant to have lived at all, and the thing that was wrong was HIM being in the world. Unlike his grandfather and father, he actually managed to end the whole cursed situation, killing the line of the wrongfully born. It’s a pretty good film, and doesn’t deserve the trashing it gets.
What's interesting about that alternate ending is that Ashton Kutcher has a twin brother who has cerebral palsy, a condition which can literally be caused by the umbilical cord wrapping around the neck and cutting off blood flow to the brain during birth. There are other causes, it's often unknown specifically what causes the injury but that is one possible cause. I could totally see that making someone feel guilty about their own birth. You turned out healthy but your brother ends up with brain and heart damage. I wonder if he pushed for that ending because of the real life parallels. I still thought the movie sucked, but that part is interesting.
My dude, no one is arguing that the story isn't good. It's a great concept, but the butterfly effect movie we got was piss poor in execution. However on the other side the time travelers wife. Great execution, piss poor story.
I personally didn't like the movie but that's just because I couldn't get into it. The movie and concept behind it was great and gave a strong likelihood of what would happen if people could go back and change mistakes they made. It changes every event after and not always for the better.
The womb ending makes absolutely no sense. A fetus does not have the brain power or the muscle mass to strangle itself. I do not understand why so many people love this ending.
I agree about the hate for this movie. I really liked it! I actually preferred the original ending though. I didn’t like him committing suicide in the womb. That was just…disturbing.
Funny, I thought Final Destination 5 would be on this list. The ending of Final Destination 5 showed us that this installment of Final Destination is a prequel to the first film.
I wouldn't have argued if it was on this list, not all of these were "terrible" and needed to be "saved", but it fits in with the actual theme of this list, plot twists that lingered long after the rest of the film.
Same. His friend tried to give him a good life under the circumstances. In that world it seems highly unlikely he would have ever gotten such a happy ending anyway
Butterfly effect. Man it's a dark concept. That the best version for humanity and life is the one without you in it. I kind of got that from Donnie Darko too. 😥
moon fall now sounds awesome, I love cheesy disaster movies. Roland Emmerick's movies are amazing, Day after tomorrow, 2012, independence day, White house Down, even movies like geostorm. they are all 2 hours of fun and destruction!
Den of thieves was just a modern day Heat and I was actually really surprised by it and ended up liking more than I was expecting and Malignant ended up being one of my favorite movies of last year
I’ve never seen Repo Men but by Jules’s description it sounds like a poor man’s version of Repo The Genetic Opera; which is fantastic and more worthy of your time
I couldn't help but agree with everyone here. I was laughing at moonfall because eof how it got more and more ridiculous. Almost like he was satiring his life's work of making disaster movies.
Best part of the Butterfly Effect director's cut is the additional footage that introduces the concept, that the protagonist is actually the seventh (or so? I don't remember exactly) attempt at a child for his parents, all previous ones ending in stillbirths. This adds another layer to the ending.
That twist DEFINITELY saved Red Notice for me 😬😂 because I actually didn’t see it coming as I was too busy distracted and scrambled by this wet movie and Ryan Reynolds just being Ryan Reynolds (which also saves the movie a little) 😂👏🏽
I still say it was a missed opportunity to have Reynolds character also be a twist by having actually being an undercover Interpol agent in the end. Could have set up a great sequel with a role reversal. Plus watching Ryan Reynolds being Ryan Reynolds is always a blast.
Repo Man is a good movie…but! Isn’t the ending foreshadowed, being mentioned much earlier in the film? I’d say the partner damaging his heart to keep him working repos is the better twist, and only an ok one at that. Side note: Love the use of Róisin Murphy’s “Bring it Back” in the blood porn scene. She’s my fave!
I mean... you've had Safe Haven as one of the Most Idiotic Film Twists of All Time. Someday I assume you will put Apebraham Lincoln on an underrated twists list.
I knew I remembered safe haven being on one of the negative lists. It’s so cheesy and dumb it doesn’t really change the ending or the story at all. Was genuinely surprised to see that movie on this list
It's weird that they thought to name the movie they were about to spoil for the #1 entry but none of the others and they do entire lists without doing that? How did they almost sort of get it for one entry on one list without realizing they should just do the whole list like that?
In “Repo Men”, the one thing that never made any sense was the defibrillator was a work place accident, so shouldn’t of Workers Comp paid for everything avoiding him getting into financial troubles in the first place???
Disagree on Red Notice. I called that twist about 10 minutes in and the rest of the movie was a boring slog waiting for it to finally be revealed. Butterfly Effect definitely has plot holes, but the concept is great and the alternate ending was ballsy and fit well thematically.
Repo the genetic opera is a better movie than repo men. A rock opera with an amazing soundtrack and great story following an organ repossession specialist and why he does it. Definitely suggest watching it.
I 100% agree with you there. Repo the genetic opera is an amazing film and doesn't get the attention or props it deserves. The actors, the plot, the music its all amazing.
No, nothing could possibly save Moonfall. And the twist wasn't that surprising at all. They were leaning that direction the whole time... Not sure how that's a twist lol.
Repo men was one of the hugest rip-offs of any movie I’ve ever seen. Blatant copying for a movie no where near as good as the original. Forrest Whittaker is the king tho
How about horror film Prince of Darkness with shock rocker Alice Cooper? The whole movie was bad-cheesy and Cooper got no speaking lines (though that did add to him being almost the only good part as he was actually kinda creepy), but the last 2 minutes of the movie changed everything, and I would recommend anyone who has seen it and turned it off part way go back and watch the ending.
The butterfly effects ending where he kills himself in the womb, youbmake it seem like he offs himself and all his friends would be fine, but this still isn't going to change his girl friends dad from being a pervert or the fact the emotional damage it may have on his parents... no matter what in butterfly effect, Ashton Kutcher will screw up everything even by killing himself in the womb
I totally disagree when it comes to Repo Man. I thought it was a great movie for the first hour and forty minutes but during the last fifteen minutes found myself screaming at the creators to wrap it up before they could make any more of a mess of a good movie.
There is no justification for Moonfall. It's idiotic beyond words and those who read the script and said, yeah this sounds reasonable need to be sent back to middle school so they can learn about science, gravity and astronomy because they obviously weren't paying attention the first time. If this movie had Vin Diesel and Jason Statham in it would make more sense because they obviously don't believe in physics or scientific principles.
Hard disagree with the first one. The Boy is a horrible movie through and through. I was hoping they wouldn’t go the “he’s really alive” route the entire movie and when they did, it was the final nail in the coffin for me. I haven’t seen the sequel so I can’t say if going the other route is better or not but the original movie was just wholly bad in every way
I watch Truth and Dare literally for the chance to watch Tyler Posey die before the end. And I will never watch Repo Men because they sucked all the goodness out of Repo- the genetic opera to make it so nah…..
Please stop giving away plot points for films that are so new that they're still in theaters. I only watch films when I can see them in HD online for free. Moonfall hasn't made it online in HD yet. This isn't the first time you've done this and I would appreciate it if you would stop doing it. It's annoying getting to the number one item and having to skip it because I haven't seen the movie yet and plan to. Giving away plot points for older movies is fine because if I really wanted to watch them then I already would have.
gotta disagree nothing and mean could redeem Truth or Dare the movie was just to stupid and Red Notice if understand that it's just a dumb popcorn flick going into it then it's actually a very good movie
The womb ending to the Butterfly Effect makes absolutely no sense. A fetus does not have the brain power or the muscle mass to strangle itself. I do not understand why so many people love this ending.
I actually liked Repo Men.. the premise fascinates me Den of Thieves was epically disappointing. The trailer made it look fantastic and it did not live up to that whatsoever. Greatest Fed Reserve heist of all time still goes to Die Hard With a Vengeance. JS
