Jairzinho Rozenstruik deserves to be on here simply for the fact that he did it to himself. A Kickboxer with 76 wins who transitioned into MMA in 2012. A heavyweight who was 10-0. With 9 of them being KOs, and 1 of them splitting Overeem's lip open. All was well until Jairzinho made the faithful mistake of calling out Francis Ngannou, who was also KOing his way to a title shot. This callout got him KO'd in the first 20 seconds of round one. The Predator took his undefeated record, and did it efficiently. It was his first (and most likely his last) callout in his MMA career.

Carwin vs Lesnar was an incredible fight, I was watching it live and absolutely nobody at all expected it to end with Brock submitting him
@RobRochon
@RobRochon Месяц назад
I've been to a couple UFC events live. I was at UFC 131 Carwin vs. Dos Santos (which was supposed to be Brock Lesnar vs. Dos Santos as season finale for Ultimate Fighter Season 13, but Dana fucked over the fans by waiting until the last minute to announce that Lesnar wouldn't fight due to his diverticulits, something he knew well before the night of the fight and people could cancel their tickets). So Carwin stepped up into the main event to take on Dos Santos and Dos Santo knew exactly how to beat him after watching Lesnar gas him out after surviving round 1. Dos Santos also had far superior boxing skills so knew exactly how to keep his distance and keep Carwin from landing one of his massive meat paws on him and it was disastrous for Shane. And let me tell you listening in person (rather than on TV) the sound of Dos Santos striking Carwin in the head was some kind of different experience then hearing, and feeling, the way all the other fighters hit each other. When he punched him or kicked him in the head it sounded like a baseball bat hitting a tree and you could hear it echo throughout the stadium even through the sound of the crowd screaming. In the last minute of round 1 Junior dropped Carwin and laid dozens of unanswered strikes on the ground leaving Shane in a bloody pulp. In those days fights weren't stopped quite as early as they are now and it probably should have been stopped then, but Shane was too tough for his own good and probably survived a mauling that most men would have tapped too if not went unconscious from. At the end of Round 1 Joe Rogan even commented how he was "looking at Shane's wife and she's covering her face, she can't bear to watch this anymore". And after that over next two rounds Junior laid an absolute beating on Carwin and it was almost too gruesome to watch. If you want to watch this fight to see what I mean its on RU-vid for free but you have to have a stomach to watch it. People ask why Carwin retired "so soon" after being a stellar 12-2 in MMA. I'm sure the fight game was pretty fun for him the first 12 fights when none of them went past the first two minutes with him laying waste to his opponents with minimal effort. But losing to Brock Lesnar the way he did in the title fight I'm sure disappointed him immensely because he realized he had zero stamina, and then this Dos Santos beating took his soul away. He was outed and the blueprint to beating him was now completely exposed - just weather the initial storm and he will completely gas out - and he no longer wanted anything to do with prizefighting.

Honestly still question how good prime Ben Askren would’ve been in the UFC…? It’s like he just cursed himself with terrible expectations, After saying he’d take out the whole 170 division with ez and started calling out everyone. Very unfortunate people only remember the 6 second ko loss of his career, Because Ben’s career had an amazing role in MMA and was undefeated in 2 organizations and beat big household names.
@markzuckergecko621

That requires a lot of "what ifs" though, he realistically would have needed much better striking skills, at the very least a solid defensive game if he was ever going to be dominant in the UFC. Cody garbrant was a guy who was quickly climbed to the top, the UFC even used another young "promise" as a "ladder" for cody, which in this case was Thomas Almeida, who was top 7 and accepted Cody like he ranked was. Also, he received a title shot beating the eleventh in the ranking, which was mizugaki, with that Cody ended up in the top 5. Sometimes I think that if Cody hadn't been pushed to fight for the title quickly, he probably I wouldn't get to the title if I were to play a title eliminator with the first and second in the ranking, which in this case was TJ dillashaw and John lineker. Cody is a one-sided fighter, and to this day, his strategy and game is the same, it's a mastery game, even if he had won TJ I think most ranked had full capacity to take his belt, cody just went a piece used by the UFC for the commercial side based on "rivalry", Cruz's rivalry with Alpha male, and then TJ Dilashaw's rivalry with Alpha male itself, the UFC squeezed as much of it as possible, unfortunately I think his fate will be the same as Marlon Moraes'... early retirement.

@jbj2283
@jbj2283 2 года назад
Honestly Woodley’s downfall wasn’t too bad compared to Barao or Cody since at least Woodley fought absolute killers multiple times in a row and it’s more so of a result of Woodley being gunshy (probably due to his fear of gassing out) and not improving his game as he willingly backed himself to the cage and tried to nail a pull counter/overhand (which to be fair worked against wonderboy and till) go watch the Rory Macdonald fight as Rory literally just jabbed him and circled away from the overhand. And to answer your question about the old Woodley being gone iirc he tried that Luque which ended in disaster as he gassed out hence being him gunshy.

He didn't destroy Cruz. He won a 48-46 and 48-47 decision against him. People forget that because they love flashiness, and somehow mistake showboating for winning rounds. Also Cody isn't that technical, he's got speed and power on his side but his boxing is actually quite limited, its primarily alternating hooks and overhands, the rare jab and naked leg kicks. While Cody has terrible striking defence; head is permanently on the centreline, drops his hands and never moves his head in anticipation of a shot, he's always reacting to what's thrown at him.

Even an inch to the left and Masvidal would have flipped over and been on his back ready for Askren to man-handle. While people can point out that Askren isn't much of a striker, Masvidal isn't much of a wrestler and Ben was probably the best in MMA and one of the best in the world before having hip surgery, and even then could still probably out-wrestle nearly the whole division.
