No hate towards Wing Chun, but Bong Sao is the only trapping technique I can get to work in Real sparring. I love it though!! I’ll use it a lot sparring in my MMA class. Great video! Love Bong Sao!

Same here, against non train guys easy pak sao tan sao lap sao bong sao. But against trained guys i realised only bong and Pak is useful. The least useful and the most dangerous one is tan sao

You got some good techniques, but your demonstration is so fast, that I don't really get what you do as immediate follow up of the displacement. (Sure, I can rewatch or try to find slow motion, but I doubt that this was your intention)

All you have to do is SLOW IT DOWN! You do this by going to the bottom of the video, where the wheel is, click on it and a menu comes up. Then all you do is go to speed, click on that and slow it down to either .5, half speed, or .25, one quarter speed. Easy peezy! Nothing to it!

Awesome video yet again! Love the clinch work. The "double jab" was two Wing Chun punches with vertical fists and low elbows.... but ya know... the attacker was obviously a WC student.

Another cracking informative video. Highly motivational! what would be really useful is a tutorial on how to put together a practice routine. How should you structure your practice sessions etc. Given your years of experience, what can a practitioner do to maintain progress with limited time. we can't all be devoted like shaolin monks!

Finally the mysteries of the bong sau explained! Great video. Il share my own secrets. one can use the bong sau in response to a hand shake for increased social value and respect. Either choose to shake the hand from bong, or counter and hug.

See on number 3 at 1:26 when you done the bong sau on his right arm, after that you checked it with your left, unwinded and attacked with your right arm. At that point in that position where the bong is, could you use that same arm (your right in this example) and drag his right arm while you go left similar to what you done in that last video, the elbow and hammer one? Except the hammer after the elbow would be a "hook" that checks and drags the arm while you go left and finish the counter. Sorry in advance I'm not the best at explaining things, it'd be a lot easier to show than putting into words. These are all great options and I can see how many of these techniques kind of link with each other. Superb, thanks again Sifu! P.S. :)

Hi sifu mark, what are your thoughts on training chi sao aggresively, much like that of a textbook wong shueng lueng pressure fighting style, compared to doing chi sao in a fluid flowing manner(lesser foward force). Do you think both methods of training complement each other, or is one style more dominant over the other?
@fightscience
@fightscience 7 лет назад
+justin sim great question. I think you should do both. Think of boxers they never do hard sparring all the time. You need periods in which you work skill acquisition and then apply under pressure. Also consider other variations of Chi Sao. There's no one style of Chi Sao that rules the other. Hope that helps you. Have a great day.

Recently, I was attacked by 5 guys from behind, while one of them grabbed my neck and I really couldn't see anything. I was punched on Ribs, pushed over and fell on ground. Really had no option to get up and had to keep covering up my face sitting down. Although I loved all your videos, however couldn't find a way out of that situation. Would like you to share some tips on same. Regards Mohit

really nice video and techniques but I have doubt that how can v use this technique on boxer or the person who does punch quickly and take it back after opponent do blocks or hits the opponent??? in ur video ur student kept his hands on his position after punch (which v all martial artist do all time) so u were able to do this techniques if he move his hands are suddenly back after punch than how can u do ur this techniques?? I m not here to insult u or anything but I m also wing chun learner but I mix it up with other styles so am asking you with the different scenario thank you

Looking at the methodology you're teaching for street defense, do you still advocate the use of bong sao in street fighting applications? Just another tool in the tool box? or focus on the shell, shield, pak, and interceptions?
@fightscience
@fightscience 3 года назад
Not really. The concept can be used for hand fight. But definitely not in this format (in the video). This video was simply for style.

In the first variation, where you intercept the attack, then when he throws the second punch, do you maintain contact? It looks like you do.
@fightscience
@fightscience 7 лет назад
+mightymeatmonsta do you mean maintain contact with the Bong Sao as the punch fills the void? If so, no the Bong Sao retracts (to Wu Sao) as the punch goes forward. Hope you have been well.

Combine this with Randy Couture and Jon Jones style dirty boxing. Or George Foreman style hand traps plus some Lomachenko footwork and see what you get. I could see this being very, very useful.

Although the movement and technique looks spectecular, its not practical against an experienced mma fighter, he wont just stand there and allow you to repeatedly attack him. Most of this style is from traditional wing chun coming from simon lau. Its good if you want to have a hobby and defend yourself in a street fight, assuming your opponent is an amature.

I'm trying to look for this guy in a real competition or a real fight using this to see if it works can anybody give me the name and the fight where he does it in. Or is it the same old excuse that Wing Chun people say this is not a sporting fighting style this is to kill and maim people. Sure bro
