I remember a lot of these and all of them frustrated me because I just did not feel in control. I felt I was driving across an ice lake with slick tires on with no way of knowing which was was north lol. A little thought would have got these to at least a medium rated game rather than bottom feeders. Only the E.A. game in this list deserved my attention. Excelsior sir :-)
With the desert race game, you're supposed to drive between the barrels and those show you the way. You just drove straight off the track into the middle of nowhere at the first bend. But, yeah, if you go off course, then you're just completely lost in the desert, with nothing to help you relocate the road again. And you might as well give up. A map. Arrows pointing you back to the track. Anything, please.
I agree except for Powerdrome. Check out the Lukozer review to get the tips on how to play it. The video certainly change my mind about that game forever.
Moonshine Racers would make my list as well. The music and graphics was decent, as was the concept, but the execution of that concept was utterly shit. The controls were terrible.
Oh Gosh! The soundtrack on Iron Trackers! I will be laughing all night now! It looks like the quad bike version of Crazy Bus. Days of Thunder should have been number one. The NES version was much better though. Outrun was just as bad on the ST
I barely had any games for my A500 since I got one near its life's end in the USA. Mostly I wrote music on it. But somehow I still ended up with Crazy Cars II lol. Awful! I still can't get over that insane intro to Outrun every time I hear it. :D
The sound in Touring Car Racer sounds like a messed up dial-up modem sound. If only Byte Back put as much effort into the actual game that they did into the title screen and title screen music, we might have had an actual decent game, The in-game graphics look like they were designed by some noob using Amiga Paint.
And jusging by how fast the music is playing in Outrun (and how fast the game runs) I'd say you are playing the NTSC version on a PAL machine (or PAL emulated machine). The actual game ran even slower than what you are showing. Powerdrome does need to be given a second chance with mouse controls though and Crazy cars 2, though I know it is not for everyone, is not a bad game. Sure it went for realistic controls which means you have to take it wasy on the steering and then you jave to straighten up on the road (the car won't automatically take a straight line), but it was a nice escape the State and the cups game
