One of only two games that I still play from the 90's, the other being Star Control 2 (in its open-source form The Ur-quan Masters). The game is absolutely timeless and OpenTTD has made the original 1994 and Deluxe releases into a real masterpiece
Just got it and love it but my main gripe is it doesn't really let you know if the mods you download are actually activated or not. I downloaded a ton of mods on my first playthrough and spent about 5 hours in a scenario before realizing none of my mods were activated lol. And you can't activate mods mid playthrough
There are so many 90s titles worth playing. I also played Railroad Tycoon/Civ I during this era, but the ones I return to even today are TTD, Frontiers: Elite II and just about everything by Bullfrog (Dungeon Keeper, Theme Hospital)
short cuts: you can press Q - W - E to LOWER - RAISE - EQUAL the land around you. press D for destroy. when starting off, borrow the maximum amount you can, use planes from one end of the map to the other, this is the fastest way to start your income stream. never start with road vehicles or trains
Clarifications / Corrections: Point 7: It's actually days in transit PER so many tiles/squares. Not total days in transit from source to destination. This means you can take the cargo as far as you like as long as you are keeping the days in transit below the amounts I specified per 20 tiles. (Thanks to Jonathan Emms for spotting this) Brand NEW OpenTTD Series 10 let's play now available, check it out: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ThFcpf66iYM.html
I personally find using vehicle groups very useful. It makes it easier for me to find vehicles on a certain route. Groups also help with replacing vehicles, especially when using a real line train set like UKRS or NARS (these are British and North American train replacement sets).
@@MasterHellish-Gaming Yeah. I am 17 old (yes, almost 18) and I love this game and grapped classmates into this game too. Its really fun to play MP and its awesome game. Btw. Thx,your vids recomend sometimes my vids from oTTD and its pleasure. Saddly, not a lot of people in Czech like this game,so not a much views. :(
A few comments: ~ Point 8: Similarly sort industries by production to find the industries with highest production and amount of cargo to transport. ~ Point 7: It's actually days in transit PER 20 tiles/squares. Not total days in transit from source to destination. I find with trains this isn't even an issue due to generally higher travel speeds than trucks/buses/ships. I like to use very long train lines across a large portion of map as it is more profitable, this is because of a better ratio of total travel time to loading time compared to short lines. (e.g. 15 days loading to 50 days travel making profit vs 15 days loading to 20 days travel). I've checked (sorting trains list by most profitable), longer train lines do make slightly more money on average. ~ Point 6: Personal preference, I use the z-base, but often take screenshots of my games with the default graphics as other's are more likely to be familiar with that. Also some people like the retro look of the default graphics so it's more a personal preference. ~ Point 4: CTRL+Click a station to automatically set it to full load when setting up the orders (saves a few clicks to change it to full load after selecting it).
Actually I apologise, the 20 tiles mentioned in the graph is based for that specific graph as an example (different distances would have different graphs). It's actually way more complicated than that. I'm assuming then that with higher speed trains when I was making more profit the loading time vs travel time ratio worked out better than lost profit due to longer travel times (which would be neglible for faster trains). wiki.openttd.org/Cargo_income
Tip #1 totally agree and thanks for creating this great content. I played TTD back in the day and for some reason after 20 odd years a memory of trying to level ground to build an airport popped into my head! Amazed to find OpenTTD still going, I gave it a try and failed. Nearly gave up but found your tutorial videos and in my first full playthrough (for 20 years) I am Chairman in 2003 all thanks to your clear and concise explanations. Any advice on how to stop and get some sleep, I always want to add just one more thing ...
These tutorials really help to fill up things I had no idea how to do (like had train-jams for ages). Can really enjoy this game, starting with really low density map, growing home town (as small as possible at beginning with like 140 pop, just to have it in Town category) and using profits to build cities (big money but can fill up empty places on map and get place for more stations) and industries (where is best outside random generated) and.. putting incomes in excel graphics etc. Really enjoy these head-hurting sessions of this game =))
Interesting thing to go with the trees. In current versions of OpenTTD, you can press a button to see the area a local authority owns. Build the trees in that area to spend less money on the same effect.
I was under the impression that the statue only boosted passenger ratings; thank you for correcting that. And as far as keeping trains at stations, that's why a lot of AIs play with many short trains full-loaded. A corollary tip: Download a good AI and watch how it plays. There's no question but that it will do "odd" or "quirky" things, but there's certainly a benefit to following the thought process of the person who wrote the AI via their work.
shameless self-plug XD Well played good sir, well played. Also, I really like the standard graphics as they are compatible with most nods, unlike base graphics packs.
Really enjoying your Tutorial videos. Could you maybe make one where you compare the different forms of transport, and give some guidance on when you would choose busses/trucks over trains, and what sort of distance you would prefer choosing one over the other? Also, I saw on your Let's play series that you use a Mod for different industry system. It looks very complicated. How would you recommend new players to build up to that? Maybe starting with standard settings on a small map first and get everything connected and go from 1950s to 2000s, and then start new game on bigger map, and only then play with that extended industry mod? Again, really enjoy your videos, I've learned soo much about the game already.
The FIRS industry mod just adds more. It doesn't add more complexity apart form there are more types. I have a spotlight video on that mod if you want to know more.
Ok so I guess I am a bit late to this game but have recently discovered it and can’t understand why I’ve not seen this. In my 36 years on this earth only to find this now is crazy as it’s my ideal game. However. I have been referring to your videos and would like to give you a massive thank you in helping out. You have taught me a lot about this game and I am still learning. Currently I don’t have any questions to ask but if I do is it ok to give you a shout to see if you can answer it. I mean I will look on the wiki first but if I’m stuck that is. Thanks again. Can I also say your videos are clear and simply to follow for this I will give a sub and a like to any video I watch.
Good batch of tips. Maybe when/how use different types of transport, what are pros/cons (i already know some, because i rarely see boats, unless there is a special mission with viewers :D) but maybe some interesting tactics for people playing purely for fun, but also dont want to go bankrupt too fast because its no fun :D
@@redcup217 usually i start with busses then i make bus stations at cities that have a high population and connect it to another city (preferably another HI-Population city), that way i get big cash then i would just wait, only thing annoying thing is accidentally placing your roads/tracks and having to destroy them which wastes your money and may upset local authorities, also have to spend money on placing on the correct path
i think the graphics is good for the people that play the old transport tycoon back in the days. Cause i feel like the new textures lost soul or something
Very good video, I love this game I decided to play it again but I increased the difficulty in the value of construction and maintenance at a medium level, and it has been very difficult for me so I appreciate your video, it will be very useful, greetings. 👋😉
Are your tutorial videos good for these days? I think those are from like 2013? thanks for the tips!! I'm still learning the game so they always come in handy!
Some of my tutorial videos are older than others. But they are all still relevant for today. I am slowly keeping the tutorial series up-to-date and refreshed. in fact I have a brand new tutorial video coming out next week
@@MasterHellish-Gaming Awesome! :) then most likely I will keep watching them! thank you SO much for the videos! they are both entertaining and informative about the game!
I'm still playing TTDX since 1995, is there a way to build more than 1 heliport/airport like bus/train stations ? Is there a possibility to serve more than 3 helicopters at 1 station (any parameter or online content)) ?
Hey, I think I'm missing something but I'm confused about the cargo payment rates. This means, after some x in game days, the industries will pay you less per unit? And you mention you stop selling at 50 to 60 for some type of cargo, what does that entail? Do you break down the train line for example?
Not sure. Can't see anything to clarity this on the wiki but there is a lot of info there... wiki.openttd.org/en/Manual/Game%20Mechanics/#delivery-payment-rates
@@MasterHellish-Gaming its nothing serious and i dont think anyone other than me will really notice (unless you are a fellow graphics designer that is) but it might be performance costy but the outcome is really good looking. I can send you an image if you want to see the difference. And by the way the blur technique you are using is called "Box Blur" try and it avoid it. And as i said. I am not the smartest person and probably one of them idiots so you dont really have to listen to what i say.
It's openttd, a source port of the original transport tycoon. In it there is a list of downloadable custom content where you can install tons of stuff from texture packs to ai tweaks. He's using the Zbase texture mod in this video
why is reading wiki, the most usefull tip, the last one you bring up (watching your tutorialls i dont count becouse let's be honest, that's just egoistic, you could just say watch tutorials, or just put something that actually is helpfull, becouse if im going to youtube for help it usually is in form of tutorial, but hey i can't be that mad becouse this is a tips video not a tutorial video)
