We made 10 patches on the MOOG Grandmother. We hope that it could give an idea of the character of this amazing synthesizer! Let download our 10 patches there: drive.google.com/file/d/1KiQg... Facebook page: / wired.brain.music
@@HotStrange I think it will pair well with any other semi modular (DFAM, Mother 32, O-Coast ...). It can also be a perfect interface to start with Eurorack.
Well it arrived and I love it.. still some learning to do though .. have a dreadbox nyx, dfam , an1x , Tanzmaus , maschine amongst other bits and pieces.. the grandmother brings a whole new world to the nyx..
It a 3 VCO patch (using the modulator as a third VCO) and we have been changing the pitch of VCO 2 by hand to make different harmonies, but in between those harmonies there is a lot of phasing / detuning. Then adjust filter to taste ;-)
Unfortunatly we did not took any note while making those patches. I encourage you to try to recreate those sounds from what you see, the result will not be 100% the same but you might discover some new and possibly better outcomes ;-)
Hey there ! This scope is an old Hameg I got for free from a college that was about to throw it to the garbage. Here I used a BNC to mini jack converter and took the "eurorack out" behind the unit to connect to the scope. It also work most of the time with the phone out (see our Digitone video). I hope this helps !
Thank's for great video! Could I make good drum components with grandmother? I listened your 9 patche and the difference between grandmother and DFAM seems very great...
Thanks sir ;-) Sure you can make some great analog drum sounds with the Grandmother if you want to feed a sampler later, it is indeed very different from the DFAM soundwise but also very powerfull.
I used the onboard sequencer with a lot of rests and ties. The sound rely a lot on the random shape lfo, it is trgged on every note (kb gate to sync in on the modulator) and sent to filter cutoff with the attenuator in the middle to control the amount.
Hello Michael, in patch 5 the modulation section is used as a third VCO (kb out to rate in and wave out to mixer in 3). It is indeed very reminicent of classic Minimoog style bass used in many EBM and Industrial tracks ;-) NIN for the win hahaha
Those "10 patches" videos are to considered more as demo of the synth used more than educational content. You could find some interresting ideas in our Patch From Scratch serie maybe.
The goal of our videos is that people can listen and watch a particular instrument being used, to get an idea of the sound of it. I personaly find more rewarding to recreate sounds from what I hear than recalling patch sheets, you usualy get to places you havn't thought of in between.
@@WiredBrain I like the sound of part 2 I will have to spend the whole morning regulating potentiometers, That sound for me that I start with the grandmother is not easy. thanks for your opinion.
@@Sicolirics To get you going the idea of this patch is to use the modulator as a third VCO ("KB CV" out to "Rate In") then tune the three VCO for nice detuning (It seems we used saw waves on each three for this patch) then use VCO 2 frequency knob while playing to move to different harmonies. I hope this helps ;-)
c'est criard ! extrêmement agressif dans les aigus ! et (pour moi) le son ne procure aucune emotion ou sensation ! c'est plat et vide ! moderne quoi ! désolé c'est mon ressenti !
