10 Places In Minnesota You Should NEVER Move To

Move to these places and you're gonna regret it big time!
Minnesota. A beautiful state known for its lakes, friendly people and of course, hockey. And, if you can stand the freezing cold winters, it’s a pretty great place to live. With five national parks, 76 state parks and over a jillion lakes, you’ll never run out of things to do outdoors Ill tell you that. And, if you’re not much for hiking, biking, fishing and everything else outside, there’s also the largest mall in the world.. You’ll be hard pressed to find anyone living in the state who doesn’t love it here - Minnesotans love Minnesota and they’re not afraid to tell you.
But face it, there’s bad places to live in every state.
To measure the bad places in this state, we have to use two things - data and opinion. We’ve looked at a bunch of data, you know - crime, poverty, the quality of schools and home prices. Plus, we took into account YOUR opinion - that’s right - you Minnesotans have a lot to say about which places in your states are great and which are not so great. So, while Minnesota is home to some of the nicest people around, there’s nothing nice about the places we’re talking about today.

To be honest, I think the best suburbs are the Northeast of the Twin Cities stretching from Arden Hills, Shoreview, North Oaks, Vadnais Heights, White Bear Lake, Mahtomedi and over to Stillwater. Much nicer than the western suburbs which are overpriced and overcrowded. The topography and lakes are nicer as well.

I have Lived in Mn for 24 years and yes parts of it has taking a turn for the worst but so has most the country. Every state has good and bad parts. One thing I can say for sure is there is a lot of things to do here in summer and in winter. Im originally from East st louis so crime rate here compared to where Im from is nothing. I lived in Bloomington MN for majority of the time I have been in this state. I love it here the medical community in this state is top notched and the reason I'm still here to this day. They have went above and beyond in keeping me alive and its one reason ill never leave. Love it snow,cold and all. Look on the bright side it could be far worst.

I took a train from Minneapolis to western Montana when I was 18 and never looked back. You couldn’t pay me to live in the Twin Cities or any other metropolitan area. I can work outside at my house all evening and never see a mosquito because I’m at just the right elevation in the mountains; down in the valley…..Watch out! 🦟 Next to no crime but the house across the street that sold for $89,000 in 1983 just sold for $650,000 with barely any yard! My house is up higher on two lots with a 40-mile Mountain View but I’m staying! Too many people from California have left for Montana and driven housing prices and property taxes through the roof.

I lived in Minnesota for 11 years of my youth, and know/remember magical Downtown Minneapolis. I'm deeply saddened to see what became of it. Now, I'll tell ya, I've never seen a Minnesotan do anything like that - I don't think the rioters were locals at all. That was like a cause celeb that the city and state did not need that attracted trouble-makers from other cities like perhaps Philadelphia or Baltimore. It is healthy to have a national conversation about this, but it must be civil, humane and dignified.

I might qualify the statement of Minneapolis being a place you would never want to move to in Minnesota given that it’s still the employment hub of the state. You could probably drill down to certain neighborhoods in the city that have the most violent crime and advise people to avoid those. Also living in one of the immediate suburbs may also be a good option.

I was born and raised in Minnesota. I love it here, physically. The beauty of the landscape is second to none. But, and this is a big but, the way this state is run now is absolute garbage. Taxes are out of control, cities burn and no one is held accountable and the divide between the haves and the have nots is only getting bigger. Two people working full time earning well over the poverty line barely get by. It’s bad enough that we are done with Minnesota. We are actively trying to move and know where we belong. It is far, far away from where I am now. And I cannot wait for the day I see Minnesota in my rear view.

I grew up in International Falls, right on the Canadian border...That whole northern region of the state has dealt with a lot of economic blows over the past 4 decades but the people stoically deal with it and carry on...Personally I joined the Army at 17 (actually left for basic training at 18) and have been an expat since (now 65)...Still love the MN area though and visit whenever possible...It seems that the divide between high earners and low or non earners has widened and that is causing the crime and drug abuse increases? Not sure but the correlation is there...School was excellent for me there and that seems to have been neglected as well since my time...In any case lots of pluses to living in Minnesota in spite of the negatives you point out...I'd move back in a heartbeat...Cheers from Dave in Dubai (for the moment) 👍😎👍

I grew up in MN and lived there for 25 years until I moved away. There's a lot of things to love about it but the weather is what drove me out. It's either absolutely freezing (very few people in this country actually understand what that means) - for reference, 32 degrees is a beautiful day out there, below 0 is what we consider cold; or it's hot as hell and humid, and don't get me started on the mosquitoes, you'd be hard pressed to find anywhere they are worse, seriously. It's probably one of the least sunny places in the world and that's what ultimately decided the move for me. I need sun! I don't miss it at all but I am proud to be from there. It's like "bootcamp" for the rest of your life, because once you get out, everything just seems that much better. The list is fairly accurate, nowhere in MN is really that bad in terms of crime, although I have heard from relatives who still live there that crime has truly skyrocketed since mid 2020. Like nothing they've ever seen before since the 1960's. St. Cloud should be #1 on the list, that is by far the last place I and many others would ever live there. I know a lot of natives and locals would agree. Something about that place is just depressing and the vibe is just way off.

You get used to the cold. You dress for it and stay active. There’s so much to do in the winter. If you close yourself up in you house for the winter it’s definitely depressing. But if you embrace the winter and get out and enjoy it it can be your favorite time of year. Fall is mine… the weather is beautiful, the bugs aren’t so bad
@dadeking5472
@dadeking5472 Год назад
@@wfo131 All that is true, but doesn't apply to me. I've been snowboarding and playing hockey my whole life. I did really love winter for that, and I can deal with cold weather, but not getting sunshine for weeks and months really messed me up mentally. That is very evident for me now that I live in a sunny place and the people around me are genuinely happier than Minnesotans. Sunshine is something every human needs, some more than others, and that's a fact. You can really see the affects of the deprivation in interpersonal interactions when you're a few months into winter. All Minnesotans do is complain and try to defend their state, I'm not saying it's a terrible place, but there are terrible things about it. If you can't see that then your perspective has not been expanded enough. We all get used to our environment and accept it as "normal." Minnesotans can't seem to wrap their heads around that concept. It's like you're personally insulting them when you say anything critical at all about it. Minnesota has lots of natural beauty and good values and I do like some things about the culture. Ultimately it's not the place for me and I'm much happier not being there.

As a Minnesotan who's lived here all their life I'll tell you that I do, in fact love this state, and I love my city of Minneapolis, though crime is high residents still want to defund the police which doesn't make sense, because I live in one of the nicest neighborhoods in the city and I still hear street racing and gunshots a couple times a month in the spring and summer so I can't imagine what it's like in the most dangerous neighborhoods, it's been bad since the riots, I felt like Minneapolis fell apart during that time and it's continuing to stay fallen apart, but other than that we have good schools, there's a lot of active stuff to do, we have plenty of lakes, it's pretty easy to get around on bike in this city, and not to mention we have a lot other things to do, and it has my favorite skyline the US. A lot of this is pretty accurate though, I wasn't surprised to see places like Brooklyn Center, Virginia, and even Minneapolis.
@mlovmo
@mlovmo 2 года назад
"Defund" the police was simply a word that the Antifa activists used that was more palatable of a word for the general public than what they really wanted to say, which was "ABOLISH the police." I really wish they would abolish the police in MPLS. It would be an interesting experiment to see waif-like social workers who look like delicate 98-pound white flowers show up to calm down a 250-pound somebody hyped up on PCP with a knife, like like that guy Ronald Davis a few years back. A very interesting experiment for urban lakeside "compassionate" types, indeed.

I personally think police are useless. I've gone through my fair share of experiences which is why I think that. The rest is just based off videos I have watched where they get away with so much and of course nothing gets done. I'm sure there's some police men that do their job correctly and are literally there to serve and protect but the rest just fucks it up. Maybe if they defund the police in a city where crime is high then good people would actually take matters into their own and get their point across. But who knows I can be wrong.

@@pineappledoesbelongonpizza9975 That's fair, you have a reason instead of jumping on the ACAB bandwagon like I've seen people do before and I believe you, of course there are bad and useless cops in America and two examples have been right here in Minneapolis and Brooklyn Center, Derek Chauvin and Kim Potter but there are also good cops, I know a few police officers and state troopers personally and they also think there are bad cops but they don't think all cops are bad either, places like St. Louis and Camden have defunded their police and crime skyrocketed, I'm not saying that people in the communities can't help stop crime but I just think, personally that police are needed to prevent crime, I respect your opinion though
@DrumHead.

@@mlovmo I agree, an experiment to see how social workers would handle a 250 pound guy on strong drugs with a weapon would be interesting, because drugs can do crazy things, a person that's high as all hell can take like 15 bullets before going down, so I don't know how a social worker would handle that, I think that social workers could be valuable assets to police departments, for stuff like mental health calls where a person is about to kill themselves, but a social worker trying to de-escalate an active shooter situation, especially a mass shooting is just a mess waiting to happen

We have 3 pro sports teams and a lot of very nice museums and 3 world class performing Arts theatres so there is always a ton of stuff to do and the best thing is its like an "endless summer" here which really works for me. :-)

@@googpix540 Crystal is bad now too? I had an Uncle that lived there for a few years several years ago.. At the time it was very "suburban" and not a lot of crime that I remember hearing about.

Minneapolis has some serious issues, yes. But it's pretty large and there are actually some really desirable neighborhoods here that are gentrifying pretty fast--for better or worse. North is slowly coming back near the Brooklyn Center border in places. Camden and Robbinsdale are doing well again. Northeast and the North Loop and SE are very desirable. I think South Mpls is what really pulls out numbers down. But there are also great neighborhoods there around Lake of the Isles, Bte Mde Ska and Nokomis closer to Edina.

I used to live in Hibbing MN which is right next to Virginia and I liked Virginia but both places used to be nicer, and have suffered in recent years of lost businesses, less jobs and lowered population. I then lived in St Paul which I actually really liked but yes there’s crime. I go to Minneapolis all the time and after 2020, it’s not alright. Not anymore. It was a wonderful city in the 90s. Then I moved to right on the border of N mpls/ Brooklyn Center and honestly I have never seen a crime happen around here. The residents near me are all elders and good people. No one has robbed us. The only thing I noticed about Brooklyn Center is public transit is horrible and there’s not enough businesses within walking distance. I don’t know about the schools because I don’t have children. one of my friends lives in Bemidji. She has never been the victim of crime there. She doesn’t like it a lot it’s small and not a lot to do. The weather is horrific there. It’s terrible here too however and I have no car.

I broke down and relocated back to my old neighborhood in Brooklyn Center a couple of weeks ago due to a job offer. Brooklyn Center is home, warts and all... It's very, very quiet here in my neighborhood. A lot quieter than it was 8 years ago when I lived here last. I'm probably not very far from you :)
