The Mig 29 in Quincy, Illinois was fully restored and is qualified to fly in the United States along with the Su 27 though I believe it may have been sold to the US military, one was spotted in a mock dogfight with an F16 near Area 51 a few years ago. I saw the same F4 advertisement and I couldn’t believe it! I was a weapons loader on the F16 in the late 80’s and trained on an F16 that was right next to an F4. The thing is a REAL monster! Almost scary. I think I’d have to get a trainer for a couple of years before I flew that thing. Totally worth the price. The ad says it’s about a million dollars away from being ready. Still worth it. Otherwise, either of the MiG’s would be great too.

Back in 1975, I was so lucky to see the Red Arrows fly the Folland Gnat as their planes. This event took place at a time the pilots were allowed to fly over the public at very low altitude, before the Ramstein airshow accident in 1988. The Red Arrows started their performance by having all nine planes arrive at the same spot from all directions at the same time, at slightly different, but very low altitude, barely a few feet above the ground, over the public.. They were flying so low that you couldn't see or even hear them coming. Breathtaking!!

The MiG 29 and SU 27 were definitely the most surprising. The F 4 and Harrier were quite surprising as well. I'm probably most interested in the Sabre simply because I don't need anything exceptionally epic. If I got to choose one free, it'd be the MiG 29 probably. A simple turn in a fighter is going to be about 2-3 G's which any human being should be able to handle just fine. You can also just bank it up to 30 degrees of turn and not pull and it will do a standard rate turn without pulling any G's.

In my active duty days I was fortunate enough to fly the F-4 out of K2 Airbase in South Korea. Now, I was the dentist at K2, and as you might suspect, the base dentist doesn't normally get to fly an F-4. In my case I traded. The wing commander asked me to extend my one-year, remote assignment to a second year in exchange for a ride. Took me a little over a nanosecond to decide. I traded a year of my life for that flight with my wing commander. I may be the only AF dentist to fly, hands on the stick, mach 1.1. I barely felt the transition to supersonic. I even got to do an Immelmann. The aircraft is SO powerful that the joke was: "What do you do if you lose an engine in the F-4? Answer: Climb and investigate."

I had the chance to see the Red Arrows when they came to Canada in 2019. Got an interview with a really nice pilot. Saw the planes from closer than any of the public. Love my job in the medias.

I saw the red arrows several times between 1980 and '84 while my dad was stationed at RAF Fairford. They always put on a great show.
