10 Problems Only Smart People Have - Downsides Of Being Highly Intelligent

Believe it or not, there are downsides of being highly intelligent, and there are problems only smart people have. While highly intelligent people are blessed with a great mind, there are some disadvantages of high intelligence.
A high IQ not only equates to an overactive brain, but a hyperactive nervous system as well. Thus, smart people have a more difficult time dealing with external stimuli. This can result in a lack of patience, anxiety and even relationship problems.
And since smart people tend to struggle to find others with a similar level of intelligence, they often lead a very lonely life.

@@ZacharyTech7 One stigma - OK. Two stigmas - no apostrophe is required to form plurals! One attribute of intelligence is perfectionism. That includes, amongst many other things, an insistence on correct spelling, grammar, pronunciation etc ad infinitum. I come across this wrongly inserted apostrophe, and many, many other faux pas, so many times, and it infuriates me. I have to “bite my tongue” to stop myself correcting other people’s mistakes, because they they would view my correcting them as needlessly pedantic. They have more lofty concerns to fill their minds, such as the number of “friends” they have on Facebook, followers on Instagram, or the very latest i-phone. Public government run education is the worst imo, it does not cater to peoples individuality with respect to how they learn. For me, I love learning, but school was a nightmare, bullying and boredom had me drop out in high school. I worked for a bit, traveled half my country (Australia) had kids, had many different life experiences, then went to university and did a 4 month bridging course at aged 23, graduated that with really high marks, got into Law and Pre-Med. Now at aged 27, I’ve dropped out of Law because I have decided I just really want to be a doctor so my focus is there. School is really not for everyone, and there are options if it not for you and its totally ok to take those options regardless of what age you are. I think the pressure to finish school is also a problem, especially when we have so many successful people who did it without school.

I almost always got straight Fs. I am considered intelligent by most people around me, though I will not go as to be arrogant and say I am. The School system is unproductive, it kills off one's desire to learn, which is why ignorance is such a problem in America. I personally cannot *stand* to be around people who gossip about social media, modern music, relationships, and etc. I don't understand how they would want to be so simplistic and uneducated when we as humans could accomplish so much more. In society it has always been a ruling class (this goes for all forms of political governments with an existing state, excluding tribal leadership.) Of intelligent people who make most the decisions for society, and refuses to educate commoners anymore than knowledge than they need to survive. To justify this they have used Religion, TV Shows, Music Artists who mumble and are probably talentless, etc. They promote these idols before the common folk, who thus aspire to be these fantasy idols that are in the media, defusing the want to learn, and igniting the path to ignorance. And thus by stating these thoughts I literally came up with within a few minutes, I can prove that you don't need to be a bookworm to be intelligent. Thus I was always disliked by popular kids at my school because I saw beyond their lack of maturity, this angered them, and I even had to defend myself from their annoyance/anger with me. Anyway sorry spouting nonsense, I hope I helped anyone here understand the existence and flow of intelligence in our human society.

I am an empath and a loner. It's very hard realizing you are actually intelligent when all your life you have been made fun of and put down. It feels incredible to figure out you were the smart one while the ones that mocked you were the dumb asses. I hated high school and college, nothing in those prisoners prove real intelligence besides being able to remember useless stuff. (depending on your major of course) One of the most powerful things smart people do is they are present in the NOW. And are constantly hungry to grow and get better. It takes me longer to get easy things that most people get fast but ONCE I get it down I can teach it, preach it, do it in my sleep. It's very hard being smart in a world full of idiots with voices. May sound harsh but truth is a bitch sometimes to swallow. The arrogance thing cracked me up, when you know too much about deep topics compared to other people that ignorantly ignore a lot of details in life it can be hard when you speak up. It can make you look arrogant and it's a never ending battle. But if you stay quiet and let the idiots walk all over you with their nonsense just to hear themselves look smart, then you wanna scream or leave the room. We are in the age of technology and instant gratification where people have never been stupider or more self absorbed due to social media, etc. No one can live in silence anymore and just be. They have to constantly be busy or doing something to distract themselves from their real issues or demons. How many people actually know themselves? Not many. When you spend years of being alone you start to become very well educated in who you are, what you are about, what you love, hate, you learn about your spirit, your goals, your dreams, fears, etc. These are the topics that go through my mind countless nights. Brilliant people are usually stating the crazy sounding shit and the irony is usually they are so right it scares others so they mock you or brush it off and change the topic.

I never thought of myself as having higher intelligence until a customer asked me why I owned a painting business. He then asked if I’d take his pre-employment screening, which included an IQ test. He shook his head afterward and said I’d scored higher than anyone he had ever employed. I was shocked. I started doing some research and found out why I am a loner, but not lonely. I rarely meet people I can engage in meaningful conversation. People don’t understand anything I talk about. It’s frustrating to say the least. The paradox is that I still underestimate my intelligence and consider myself a useful idiot.

What kind of stuff do you wanna talk about 👀
@jagggyjazz8010
@jagggyjazz8010 Год назад
@@BlackBeavisThataIsntReallyBlac we don't like movies as they show redundant stuff, unlike some epic ones that need our minds to run. Horror is definitely a no-go, comedy is something we love but most of them feel like bullying someone. So it's mostly about how we dislike things that are the norm in the society like most tests as they actually don't measure someones understanding of a topic. The thing is we like contradictive people who would rather explain, both take and give some wrong assumptions on one's side. How religion is actually something that separates people and how it is rubbed on us to make us follow some rules that they consider normal. Why God was created to make people fear him and make them follow those rules as fear is what makes us do things than love. How many of us follow our passions and paint for a living when we are not good painters? It's the fear that makes us do a random job that can pay for a living rather than follow our passions. Why do most people blame the government that it is not doing anything for them, when they don't spend enough time researching ( at least a few hours) about whom to elect with a neutral eye. Why do people find it more interesting to watch a movie on Toilet paper but not a detailed documentary even when the documentary does have more emotions, facts, and better details on the topic of help we can provide in the scale we are ready to invest our time in. Let me put this scenario, 'I started reading about electron clouds in an atom', I would be thinking about why and how is this a better model of representing the electron and would think about the flaws in it with the knowledge I previously have on this topic, What I realized talking to another person is that they would study for marks and try to get better marks by understanding just what they are presented with on the book and never wonder about the possibilities of colliding electrons and actually understand why they do or don't as they would never have got to that question in their mind. Why do people think the oscar is the most coveted prize in the movie industry when it actually can be rigged as a few actors have someone they like in the shortlisted movie and do actually vote out of respect for them. These things are something people generally believe in and get hurt when we talk about, but they rather don't understand that I would actually take in some things and accept that religion is a good concept in some quantity as people do need rules for the society to function as it lays some foundations to at least debate upon, though I would be mad that they actually also advertise that they are the only religion that is right. This is all fun to me. These are plain and boring things or something sensitive for those around me. Even the above line made me think 'why do people get sensitive, even when you not actually scolding them?', do they seem interesting to you? you are either having a comparable IQ to me or you personally felt or have been a victim of one of those things.

You can say emotional intelligence doesn't exist all you want, but there are definitely ways to let go and learn to function without being so passionate and being offended by being misunderstood and other maladies... shouldn't listen to society all the time and think that the solution to being misunderstood is more intelligence, it's more emotional intelligence and letting go in my experience. Also just because you're highly intelligent doesn't mean that society needs to exploit you, nor you it. At the end of the day we can do whatever we want with our intelligence because who's to say what's right and wrong way to go about it?

I was researching whether intelligent people have a harder time socializing. I realized that I must be pretty smart because I find myself having to explain so many things to people, and sometimes feel frustrated (or feel like they are being ignorant) when they make up assumptions or stigmas about others without learning about it (such as making assumptions about mental illnesses (or greatly minimizing somebody's illness in general)). And I sometimes wonder why somebody would criticize such people without researching it first. Other times I have a hard time connecting with people when I am trying to explain a serious health matter and they giggle every time I say the word "brain", or act like I am totally ridiculous when I explain how something seemingly harmless can affect your organs, nerves, and brain. And when people don't believe that brain chemistry doesn't affect anything, even though people all over the world have witnessed the affects that alcohol has on one's brain chemistry. However, I DO get along with people who aren't knowledgeable when they behave in a mature manner; and when I put a smile on their face after telling them about something that they never knew before. I guess it's all about a person's attitude 🙂.

We once had to practice a dance for my cousins birthday party but I struggle trying to wrap the concept of dancing around my head. They said "Stop overthinking it just go with the flow." I eventually got it but not in the way they wanted. I memorized the dance and stuff like where my right foot should go.

Im not that smart but I have 8 out 10. Till someone told me that: most Man dont like smart woman. It lead me to idea like: is there something wrong of being smart? Well, I'm halfway minimising my overthinking behaviour. 😊

I was identified as gifted in 1st grade. My teacher came to our house to inform my mom. Along with that, I was "hyperactive." That would be called ADHD in modern terms. Grade & high school offered no challenges. When I went to a university with high expectations, I wasn't the brightest kid in class anymore & faced a rude awakening. My grades weren't straight A's anymore. I struggled for a while. I've several advanced degrees now, in subjects that I love. I still have trouble interacting with people with low or medium IQ's. All my friends were gifted nerds like me. I coped. I hope I didn't offend anyone along the way, & as I was a college professor for the last 20 years of my life, it gave me great joy to see the "ah-ha's" in my students.

I relate to many of the points. I especially relate to the fear of failing as i've gotten older. I have had many unfulfilled dreams that I was afraid to chase for fear of not achieving. Also, I wish I had a number for the times I was called annoying; I am constantly correcting others in menial ways

I am not really that smart but I think the advice about not seeing things through and not being and to develop perseverance and good work ethic is most important advice in this video that someone can take away. Being able to not take anything seriously or as challenging throughout your child does effect you a lot when u are older so u need to learn to take hardship(no matter how small or big) and get over it. You need to learn to take a project and see it through completion. It's the most important and hard lesson for someone who has been through something like this.

I have a high IQ. I am alone but never lonely. Being lonely is being weak and needy. Needing to be around others. I am strong enough to support myself emotionally.

You and I are similar. I would far rather being alone than with a woman who is stupid and very opinionated. Being alone, I don’t feel alone. I am an island from a sea of lazy and stupid people. I achieved a lot and am retired and relatively wealthy. I have a great relationship with my sons and my extended family. I feel as I am the luckiest man alive.

Mental issues like Depression and Anxiety, Feeling lonely, Stubborn, Problems sleeping I've been experiencing that quite a bit one that's the big part I do find hard is sleeping issues and loneliness also am trying to find a counselor which is what I'm currently looking for one thing that I've noticed is that I'm extremely artistic and talented with filmmaking photography and also skipped 3 grades ahead

2:00 It's not necessarily I get annoyed when people are genuinely trying, I enjoy helping people. It's when people are apathetic to the information and being dismissive, that really starts to irk me. Everyone starts off at level 1. I'm not trying to judge fish on their ability to climb. I am trying to help them to learn how to sail the winds with their bad ass fins.

I have been alone since I was a kid. But I tried to make friends, it was frustrating to talk to them because they were always talking about sports or about some new girl/boy and insignificant stuffs like that. So, those relations didn't last. And now I just work work and work without socializing at all. But on the bright side I am moving forward and making progress in terms of my financial goals. Sometimes I feel bad that I can't find anyone like me around and probably I'll remain alone for the rest of my life, but then it actually feels good when I have only my company.

It's not just being highly intelligent that's the problem it's also those highly intelligent people who are moral and try to find ways to fight organizations that are highly corrupt and hurt innocent people. Highly intelligent people without high morals tend to live life easier b/c they see people as tools to use and manipulate.

I’ve had to laugh at the people I’ve met over the years who’ve earned PhDs or attended name schools and assert that they “must be smart,” because they achieved these things, when clearly they are in no danger of being Mensa candidates, let alone great scholars. For what it’s worth, I say that as someone who holds four degrees from Ivy and Ivy Plus schools. I have always maintained that the greatest thing I learned was how little I really know.

Yes I have all these 10 problems it's exactly the way my life is 🙄 A lot of people think I'm crazy! Everyone expects me to have all the answer's, and that can get boring always having to think for others...I'm always feeling lonely even though I'm around people and friends...I love my own space in my home and therefore dont like entertaining people...but I'm always a loyal friend will do anything for anyone, and i can be reliable and trustworthy..I never get help from people even when I'm sick or in hospital..I am struggling now at the age of 74 with nobody to support and help me when things get difficult...my own children are never there for me they think I dont need help or need them☹ I do overthink and it keeps me awake, so I have to take sleeping pills which I hate🙄 Life is very hard when your smarter than most people as I tend to be a perfectionist in everything I do...I put 110% in everything I do and puts a strain on my failing heart❤ But I cant slow down and never will even though my doctor has warned me about having a heart attack...And even after all that I do not feel fulfilled, it's very tiring searching for it...But my life has been colourful and rewarding with what I have achieved, but not fulfilled...I feel good writing all this down and I hope it helps someone 😀

I relate to some points in this video. I have an IQ of 144 and have struggled my whole life with staying motivated. My interest is like a flame that burns out very quickly, so I start new projects or take on new activities feeling very passionate about them (learning a new language, moving abroad, changing careers), and after a short time doing them they no longer feel exciting or challenging. After trying many hobbies, it starts to feel like I am running out of things that interest me. It's like a hole I'm always trying to fill out.

They call me a Stubborn woman, no patient for the other ones around me, but it's hard to pretend infront of them that I do posses all that patience they need. Gets me to bad, overthinking situations that still haven't happened, but I already have any solution for any problem. I call it Blessigns and super powers! 😎

These vids are just baiting my ego. It’s funny as I am certainly no genius, better at some things than others and others are naturally better at some things than me but for some reason these ’10 things that make you’ type vids pretty much capture the traits of large swathes of the population. Not to mention I know highly intelligent people who are at the other polar end of these traits. Simple fact is there are just so many variables to most humans that although indicators can pigeon hole us to some degree with known data, It is never going to be the case every time.

Everything except the work ethic, I have never been lazy, I realized that hard work coupled with my intellect got me promoted quickly. I was usually the supervisor anywhere I went to work. My problem is personal relationships. And that has gotten worse with age.
