I would agree. I have the same problem. Most people I meet are not interested in having deep conversations with thought attached to it. They want to veg out and not think. This becomes quite frustrating and sometimes lonely. When a vast majority of the population looks at you as if you are an alien being, it does not feel good. I'm coming to the conclusion that there are those of us who have to accept that we may have to remain loners. It's not terrible to stay to oneself. Just be choosy who you want to converse with and life becomes much more pleasant. In every generation there are different spectrums of intelligence, and are either on the ignorant or intelligent side. This is not to sound pompous, just an observation. Good luck to you James. 😊

I'm in my fifties and I still find it bewildering that so many people don't seem interested in furthering their knowledge and understanding of the world. I'm still convinced that, for evolutionary purposes, self-development is driven by instinct, but perhaps the faults in our education systems actually suppress it.

All other education after the primary level should be left up to the student and/or his/her parents so not so many years are wasted learning unnecessary garbage that the educational system feels that it is necessary for the majority of us to know. I'm a pioneer in ADHD. I stood behind the piano 6 times my 1st day in 1st grade. People have different ways of defining success. For some, it's not all about highest pay or highest position. I know quite a few people I'd consider to be smart who don't necessarily chase (what we traditionally call) success. They work HARD (as much as they may seem lazy at home, or with certain things, I know some that can't just sit and be idle) and have great ideas that they implement. But they don't like the play the GAMES, do the SCHMOOZING. Some actually LIKE whatever job they have and don't want to go higher (in many cases, into management). But the world doesn't reward people who are merely VERY GOOD at their job - the reward those who reach as high as they can go (often into a position where they won't do that well - Peter's Principle and all that). But some people are at their best if they are doing things they love - teaching, being a librarian, being a researcher, etc., and I wish there was more reward for people who simply put a LOT into the job they have currently and do it extremely well.

I've been around some highly intelligent people. One thing I've noticed about all of them is that they're excellent listeners, always ready to learn something new from anyone around them. They're usually more down-to-earth and humble than I would have expected. Another thing is that almost all of them are workaholics.
@prepperjonpnw6482
@prepperjonpnw6482 2 года назад
You pegged me almost exactly lol. I used to work 12-15 hours a day 6 days a week lol. Plus I was always doing other stuff when I wasn’t working like DIY projects at home plus attending church, leading a mens group because hey they didn’t have one that really got down to a serious study lol Also, I spent lots of time with my son and supported him in whatever he was into at the time. Somehow I found the time to take him fishing and hunting as well as teach him to play golf so I always had someone to play 18 holes with. I spent lots of time with my wife before she passed from a terminal disease. I took a sabbatical from work so I could take care of her myself the last 2 years she was with us. I wasn’t going to let strangers do for her what I could do myself. I learned how to do her hair the way she liked and her makeup. I helped with her showering and getting dressed as well as all of the personal stuff I’m not going to mention because you can guess what those are. I continued my habit of reading at least 2 books a week. I really have no idea when I slept lol. I’m often told that I’m a really good listener and I think that comes from something my grandfather told me when I was still a boy. You learn more with your ears and less with your mouth, so another way to say that is if you’re talking you’re not learning you’re teaching. As for being messy I would say my desk which is rather large is the one place I’m messy. My desk is actually an antique dining table so it’s roughly 3 1/2 ft wide and 8’ ft long with the extensions on the ends up and I covered about a 1/3 of it with a really thick piece of glass I purchased just for it. It’s always a chaotic mess that ebbs and flows each day lol. I know where everything is though so I’m good lol. Everything else in my life is tidy and organised from my book shelves (dewey decimal system) to my tools and workshop (woodworking). I’m an obsessive list maker, I’ve even been known to make a list of what lists I need to make lol When I was still a boy in school I was always getting into trouble for fidgeting and not paying attention etc etc. So what did they do? They had my mum take me to a doctor who promptly diagnosed me as ADD this was before ADHD was a thing. The doctor said I needed to be medicated with Ritalin, this was before Adderal. Thank God I have the best mum in the world lol. She took me to a different doctor who promptly gave me tests to assess my IQ and guess what? I blasted those tests to a degree they hadn’t seen before lol. I didn’t have ADD, the reason I couldn’t sit still or pay attention was two fold. First I was bored and second I was intellectually equal to or better than the teacher lol. The traits or abilities that make the most difference are reading and comprehension plus logic and problem solving. My reading level was beyond college levels when I was a 4th grader and I comprehended everything I read combined with the ability to recall absolutely everything I had ever read lol Anyways, I didn’t mean to write a novel lol. That’s another trait of people who are intelligent. We tend to be rather quiet until we hit something we really like or are interested in with a passion. So I basically just typed all that to say if the doctors tell you your kid has ADHD or ADD have her or his IQ tested before you medicate them. You never know you just might have a genius on your hands lol Try writing down what my friends and I call a mathematical black hole. I was doing that in my head at age 10. Is it any wonder that I was bored in the 4th grade lol By the way I graduated high school a full year and a half early with more credits than seniors typically had. My GPA was better than 4.0 because I took all AP classes and spoke multiple languages. And what did I do with all those letters from colleges and universities in multiple countries? Yep! I through them away and convinced my mum to sign the papers so I could go in the Army at 17 lol. Airborne Rangers to be exact (scroll not tab). It was exactly what I needed. The first year is all physical with a dash of mental. lol I’ll save the rest of the story for another time. Cheers

This is one of those topics that just goes on and on. It's really open to interpretation. I had someone tell me I had a trait of intelligence because I would listen to questions that interviewers were asking in order to figure out their formula of why they were asking it in the way they were asking it...like I was studying it from the outside and going in. Some people also aren't taught how to learn properly when they are young, and once you learn how to learn your GPA goes up, does that mean you became intelligent? Much of this, I think, goes back to short-term thinking behavior and long-term thinking behavior and are you making a difference in the world (in some small way) with your wisdom. IMO it's always better to be more narrow and zone in on how you can sharpen a field of study, something you are passionate about. Also, I think the whole messy concept is overrated, it's more about how productive your environment is. IF you are productive in chaos, then go for it. 🙂

The biggest drawback of being highly intelligent or thought of as highly intelligent by people close to you is that they tend to expect more from you. Not only should your "higher intelligence" rush to conform with and affirm their standards, but they expect you to learn using the same methods as everyone else but be better/smarter/faster... not realising "highly intelligent" people often learn differently.

I particularly like quiet places and staying up late. I enjoy the quietness late at night a lot that is when I usually think and look for solutions to problems. I use these quite moments to reaffirm what is important and what is not. People are asleep while my brain is just going through processes of planning, resources, time limits and results. I make a mental list of who to call, to contact, the obstacles I could encounter and the quickest ways to solve these challenges. I think about the strengths and weaknesses of people I interact with it. Their capabilities, their habits, mine, characters and the end goal. I review these relationships and place them in hierarchies. It just the way I am built, when am not full on. I become bored or depressed.

This is quite accurate. When I was young, I always thought I must be crazy or terribly stupid because I was so different, and growing up in an underprivileged working class family with an alcoholic father did not help. In my late 20ies my psychotherapist sent me to have my IQ tested as he got suspicious. And there it was, over 140. It did not give me confidence or improved my self-esteem, I took it as a fact and never talk to anyone about it. Also, since I´m highly sensitive too, I wonder whether this entire package of "hyperactive nervous system" comes with more disadvantages than advantages.

A common flaw amongst “smart people” is that their ego gets the better of them. Their arrogance leads to delusions of grandeur or acute narcissism. People who think their shit don’t stink need to be brought back down to earth. For any human on this planet who thinks they are intellectually superior due to their above average IQ, financial status, social empowerment, academic qualifications etc are fooling themselves into their grave. The one who is truly superior to many would boast evolutionary attributes such as self sustenance: the ability to function without food or water for an indefinite amount of time. Or something on the lines of that. A good sign of intelligence is when one applies solutions to their problems, is resourceful in stressful situations, can adjust their perception or interpretation of something in order to understand it. Possesses an intuitive aptitude, the ability to see the patterns within any system, to understand, to know how things work. They also possess empathy for the less fortunate and most importantly can override their ego in order to become more pragmatic. An intelligent person understands that everyone is equal despite the differences in appearance age or character. An intelligent person will seek to work with others in order to produce a collective power where skill and determination become unified resulting in a greater form of intelligence due to the collaboration of the persons involved. Finally an intelligent person will seek to find their true purpose in life, overcome their programming. An intelligent person understands that fate vs destiny is synonymous with reproduction vs immortality or ascension vs reincarnation.

I read a book years ago with a title something like,”Seven Kinds of Smart”. People mostly think intelligence involves math, science or other things related to what we learn in school but it is so much more involving imagination to create , mechanical ability, musical genius,etc. the smartest most intelligent people realize that they can learn new things from just about anyone including children. I always keep wanting to learn something new. My whole life I have been like that. One of the smartest people I knew in my life, loved talking to people to see how they think. In Myers Briggs test he was an INTJ, only 1% of the population. People have different ways to process information especially according to our personality type. It’s all so interesting and I would never want to pigeonhole people, thinking only people with the traits in this video were highly intelligent. The video did not say that but many people watching it may think that. Interesting video though.

Lazily lounging on my couch gives me my best ideas. Does anyone else never really stop thinking? I envy people who can just turn their mind completely off and do nothing. Even when I appear to be doing nothing, I’m thinking. I also don’t consider myself to be extremely intelligent. I know I think differently than most people. I always try to think ahead and be prepared for any scenario. I’m messy because being organized and having everything spotless seems so mundane. What’s strange is at my job, I’m a clean freak. At home, not at all. I guess it’s because my job calls for it. I fit into everyone of these categories, but I don’t see myself as extremely intelligent, just different.

My mind never shuts down. I always found it hard to sleep and one time my friend said he was going to go relax a bit and I just busted out laughing (not at him really) it’s just that of all the thoughts I have had and all that my mind try’s to sort out constantly I can honestly say that very statement or phrase has never crossed my mind until he said it.

5:54.....talking to themselves. I do have a tendency to do this when I am planning/mapping out a chapter in my book. I take on the role of a couple of the characters and 'talk' the scene through to see how it sounds haha!! I know it might be seen as crazy, but its a useful way of getting things clear.

Im a research scientist and I lot of people around me say that I am some sort of genius. I dont really see it so I started seeing these videos to see if I have some of these traits. I have every one of these habits, I was shocked when the annoyed by chewing , Ive always been extremely annoyed by cheing noises, it makes me crazy. I also love being alone. I constantly think aloud and talk to myself which everyone looks at me like Im weird. Its hard to make social connections with people becuase its extremely hard to find people like me, I usually see things and I am aware of things that almost no one sees so it can get pretty annoying. I think the one habit that really tells that someone is highly intelligent is being ok by being alone, I am always surprised by people that cannot stand being alone or doing things by themselves, I actually prefer it most of the time, I cant really hold conversations with most people.

This video is such a relief for me because have most of these traits I get criticized so much for a lot of these traits. I'm lazy because I stay up really late, even thought I'm often doing work or creative stuff. I get criticized for being messy, for laying on the couch, for being spaced out, etc.

Watching this is like knowing someone stalking me and knowing my daily habit and demeanor then make it into a video. All describe me so well. But I'm messy mostly in my room, especially when im awake at night and couldn't sleep, "daydreaming"

I remember getting caught in class daydreaming hundreds of times. I've always talked to myself. I get tired when the sun comes up and gain energy when it goes down. Love being alone, get mad at myself especially about being messy. I curse especially when watching stupid stuff on TV while laying on the couch.

For me, according to this video, I possess all 11 traits; however, people that have crossed my path, typically think (and @ times verbalize) I'm either crazy, ditzy, or just downright a mental defect. I talk to myself quite often, have been a night owl for as long as I can remember, messy, curse more than the sailors' that taught me, love cold showers,etc If ever anyone were asked to , of me give a descriptive, to my knowledge, I'd be one that holds, as well as utilizes, common sense, knowledge and logic. In addition to having and using these, the beauty, is when utilizing any of these, is not allowing a grandiose mindset to take hold, for this could very well sabatoge the message being spoken when these are being used. Left to my own devices, as far as "I" am concerned, I'm just passing thru, and just so happened to pick up on a few skills along the way. Said skills, have been beneficial in assisting me in my walk in life, and what I've come to realize is in fact, what truly holds importance and is observed more than any one thing in this existence. Which is, that it isn't my actions in life that really matter, as much as it is my reaction to the action(s) of fellow man and life itself. To conclude, any video can say anything and one says, "I'm intelligent! " To know intelligence, is to not collectively speak of so. This, of course, is my opinion. Thank you. 😊

I just take freezing cold showers because waiting for the damn warm water takes a good 3-4 minutes and that wastes gallons and gallons of water, might as well use it. Its great to wake me up and you get used to it very rapidly. I also doodle, have a semi cluttered desk, stay up late, swear, daydream and criticize myself, I also love learning....I guess I'm smarter than I thought. 😂
