Emanuel Petreski ... lol I only thumbs downed cause for me it was more: PS One - early teens PS2 - Sophomore year of HS PS3 - Half way through college PS4 - Late 20’s, almost 30...years past quitting gaming
Played the ps1 in a dentist's office while waiting for our appointment. Every kid would just pick up Spyro where the last kid left off and play it untill their appointment. Honestly made us want to go to the dentist's and get a ps1 for our home later
avg joe gaming , Walmart was the ish when you went there and didn’t have a console at home! I would go to Walmart and my mom would always know where I was.
@Daniel 1 what would you rather? Enjoy someone's made up story like millions of other anybody's, or forge your own story for millions to enjoy and praise?
DOOM, FF7, FF8, Resident Evil 2, Tekken, Mortal Kombat, Battle Arena Toshinden, Xenogears, I could go on. Loved them all and beyond grateful for the awesomeness that started it all!
Alone in the Dark The New Nightmare, MediEvil 1 & 2, Spyro The Dragon, Nightmare Creatures 1 & 2, Evil Dead, Parasite Eve 1 & 2, Dino Crisis, Ace Combat, Samurai Showdown, Soul Edge, TKOF 94-98, Quake II, Jackie Chan Stuntmaster, Twisted Metal 4, Castlevania Chronicles, Castlevania SotN, Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen & Soul Reaver. Good times
@@Mahdi_B Jackie Chan was awesome, I still remember beating thugs with a fish lol the only "recent" game that comes close to what little Jackie was in PS1 is Sleeping Dogs
I remember paying £299 for mine at launch in 1996. That was without any games. Going from a Sega Megadrive to this is probably the greatest leap in gaming quality there ever was in regards to consoles. Not just graphically, but also the audio. I have another early PS that I paid £25 in it's original box which I have refurbished and now works like a dream. While the debate is still out that the early 1001/1002 models produce superior audio, mine certainly sounds excellent and on par with my PS4. Dare I say maybe better!! Waiting on my copy of Silent Hill coming as it's probably the game I remember most, but don't remember completing, although quite difficult to find for sale in good condition these days.
I remember Ridge Racer on PS1 only loaded the disc once when you first turn it on. After that you could take the game disc out and replace it with an audio CD and it would play the audio CD while you raced.
True, all throughout history winter killed everybody in the world every time it came around. We're lucky we have central heating! Who knows how we survived until now @@JonnyUnderrated
I'm never wasting my money on those scrappy cash grabby "classic consoles" some great games on those thing but its like only 20 of them or whatever!!! Its shit there was soooo many other great games! I can go down to the community thrift mall and pay some guy 60 bucks and he'll have over like 5000 games from multiple different consoles on an emulator on a raspberry pi in a little 3d printed shell of any console you choose. Over priced garbage in the end
@@Nhevreno right? The same thing applies for me when you face the final boss in twisted metal 3. That thing scared the shit out of me. Seems like all twisted metal games do that. Sweet tooth in twisted metal 4 still gets me, cuz I know he's not shy to release his henchmen, and boy do we know how deadly that attack is. You better have some energy left for a shield or a teleport, otherwise you're fucked lol
You have a Sega CD disc or game disc well if you have a radio player or anything like that I dare you to put it inside your CD player just see what happens. Find out where you can just look it up but I did it once I was probably about 10 scared the crap out of me
I vividly remember playing Metal Gear Solid when it came out in 1998 on PS1. Those games will always have a special place in my memories, I just miss those days before loot boxes and microtransactions.
MGS1 was magical. I've actually been scared to replay it because I think it might not be as good as I thought it was at the time. I was scared to even replay it when MG3 came out. (Which is probably one of the best game of all time)
@@billybobjoe198 I know exactly what you mean man...At the time, it was so immersive and looked good enough for me because I had never seen something like that before. Fighting Vulcan Raven or Psycho Mantis was so fun and nerve-wracking at the same time, the whole switching the controller to a different port blew my mind! But you are right since we have had so many improvements to gaming and media, we have a higher expectation in games now. I believe they remasted MGS Sons of Liberty, that game was also another one of my all-time favorites too lol.
When you play it now it makes you realize just how far 3D graphics have come . It make me appreciate the ps4 even more . But basides that , the gameplay is still fun on the ps1 i still play 2097 regularly . That sound track is so nostalgic ..
I got mine as a gift from my aunt who works and lives in France in Jul (Christmas) 1999, it's been 20 years now... I still have it and it's fully functional! To this day I still remember the day I opened the gift and the mornings I spent in front of the TV... Such good old time, I feel that past days charm is lost now (although you can still feel that charm in the cold snowy days in Norway)
Nintendo only "stabbed Sony in the back" due to the fact that they didn't realize the deal they reached with Sony would actually net Sony more money per game sold on CD than Nintendo would make, and this would include first party games Nintendo would have made on the format. Nintendo actually felt that Sony were trying to stab them in the back, so they pulled out of their deal without warning and instead approached Philips. Seems like no matter how you slice it, all that was really needed was better communication.
I can remember when SNES and Megadrive where having the big console war (yes I'm that old...). And it's funny that Sony won that whole thing and is pretty much still king
@Merchantrouge84 Sony still did great during that cycle. It started out rough but currently the PS3 and 360 are sitting right at 84 million consoles sold each so not too bad considering how far behind they were and the fact they had to compete with the Wii at their launch AND the 360 had an entire year on the market without competition.
@smokehead 69 Nah their were reasons. Really good reasons why they backed out. "Sony got the rights to create and sell CD-ROM software that would run on the Super NES-compatible machine, which it called the “Play Station.” It wouldn’t have to pay Nintendo any royalties or get its approval for CD-ROM games. This meant that if developers and consumers did embrace CD-ROM gaming on the Super NES, Nintendo wouldn’t get a dime off any of those game sales-only the hardware sales. Why would Nintendo allow this to happen? Maruyama said it was because Sony “explicitly told them we were going to focus on everything but video games.” In other words, Sony’s position was that it would make encyclopedias, home karaoke software, and other non-gaming applications using CD-ROMs, and leave all the gaming to Nintendo. But apparently this was not in the contract itself, and once the ink was on paper, Sony had carte blanche."
@@TheAlphaOmegaX3 It is still Nintendo fault for partnering with Sony. If Nintendo go with Sony or they not partnering, gaming history would have been different. We might stuck between Sega and Nintendo. Heck, Xbox might not exist because they were inspired by Playstation.
I remember playing Twisted Metal on PS1 and being able to remove the game mid play and put in your favorite music CD and all the tracks would pop up on the games track list.
that region lock thing. you could avoid it by putting in a regular PS1 disk while keeping the top open. then replacing the disk after it gets to the black or white screen with orange logo with what you really wanted to play. like Brave Fencer Musashi.
This trick is also used for playing CD-R's without a modchip. I remember putting in Wu-Tang first and then swapping it for a CD-R of Thrill Kill as a 4 year old. Edit: my father knew I was doing it and kept trying to hide both discs. He eventually gave up.
@@aiodensghost8645 You sure were a capable four year old. I beat Mike Tyson at the age of 4, put password over and over till i memorized his patterns. Same goes for megamans.
@@cupofjoe2251 I was a strong willed 4 year old. To an extent I'm still strong willed. Now as an 18 year old I try to pick up and play my games on the hardest difficulty I can (I'm currently playing SMT IV: Apocalypse on the DLC difficulty setting Apocalypse.) I'm looking forward to trading my PS3 for a PS4 and finally playing Bloodborne and DOOM on Ultra-Nightmare
That specific swap trick only works on the early production consoles. Later on, Sony added another check to the boot process with the effect that you had to swap the discs over twice at exactly the right times (I.E. local disk -> import disc -> local disc -> import disc) - it was fairly easy with practice, but getting it to boot the first time could be an exercise in frustration.
Playing CnC with a friend was an experience ..I wasn't any good at it ,but my overall strat was just huge quantities of tanks ,and i was able to push those tanks out pretty fast ..Only downside was ,when i was moving that large bulk of tanks ,I could hear my friend on the other side of the room ,telling me ..Hey you're on the move right ? And i was like ..erm ya ..maybe..but it was so obvious ..the gameplay turned into a powerpoint presentation ..and i was attacking at like 3 frames a second ,The first Athlon that AMD launched ..i bought it ..unlocked the multiplier with a pencil to bridge the L1 ..never went back to consoles from that day on ..good times though
I use to have the PS one original that you showed and I also had the demolition game you had in the background and would to play that again was so much fun.
My friend scored a PS2 Big Boy at a Goodwill in Atlanta for 20 bucks with 2 memory cards and the PSU cable all it needed was an AV cord and controllers. I buy my games on Amazon used Great Condition or above or new if cheap enough like I scored GT2 for 6 bucks shipped and there isn't a scratch on either disk. Currently I am playing Spyro 2 and FF IX games I missed back in the day. Also check Pawn Shops I got some PS2 games for Two bucks each including Vice City with the manual and the map.
I used to have a PS1, loved playing on that back in the day (man that makes feel old). The games I used to play were Tekken, Tekken 2, Rage Racer, Ridge Racer R4, The Italian Job, V Rally, Destruction Derby, Crash Team Racing and TOCA 2.
The scratch and sniff discs weren't ever meant to be scratched, but rather, the smell was activated by the spinning of the disc in the slightly warm PlayStation, giving your room a smell that is associated with the environment of the game. Actually does add to the realism of Gran Turismo when you can smell the track and tires.
The first model 1001's were the audiophile's wet dream of cd listening. It's not just any old PSX. The back of the unit has the 3 jacks and that's how you tell it's the amazing audio version.
I have one, and it does sound absolutely amazing connected to some good speakers. I remember back in 1995 that it did sound that little bit different to anything else . Very unique sound. I'm not sure how intentional this was by Sony as it was just a gaming console after all but it certainly appears to have some fine tuning to the audio chip. I can't speak for the later versions as I've never owned one but certainly not much could touch the original PlayStation for sound quality back then. Not without spending lots anyway.
I have them all from the first model to the PS4 ! And always love the psx boot sound brings a lot of memory when it came out whith ridge racer and Jumping flash!
Here is something I'll wager isn't in this video that you probably didn't know. There might be a store near you that does Disc Resurfacing. This process can restore your old scratched discs back into working condition. Now go dust off your ps1 and play some classics!
@@shakesfirst2443 I also heard that wiping toothpaste on the disc using a cloth, from the inside out, would work. Didn't do jack for me. Maybe someone else got it to work.
@@Adam-cq2yo You need to be able to buff it smooth afterward. That's what the kit I use does. Gives it a rough buff, that rhymes, then you buff it with a smoother surface.
Just to let you know. You can only do this process about three times. You are removing the plastic that protects the data. If you take off too much, by by game.
Still got my PS1, sprayed it gunmetal grey. also have an ace scart lead with extra audio out, which i made a tradition of getting for any console that supported it. Gotta love that kick-ass CD quality audio. And had Connectix VGS and remembering it working a little bit and Bleem! for a while.... Also i've ordered the PS1O from Australia that mimics the CD drive allowing you to play your games from a SD card "personal backups" i might add. I think I shall repaint the console though
I remember playing the old Metal Gear Solid demo every time i went over at my cousins. Then I got a PS2 eventually one christmas along with Dragon Ball Z Budokai. The first game I got after that was sons of liberty.
Man, The original Medal of Honour was by far the best title on the PS1. I still play my original copy today on my PS3. The environments are sooooo creepy and really took me to the time in which it was based on. The only thing i hate is not been able to use the analog sticks especially for aiming your Garand. It was truely a great game. I loved the menu screens and scrolling to the sw radio or the medal box. Still such a great experience. No zombies but the Nazis were creepy enough
I own my PS1 still, my mum bought it from my brother for $200 Aud in the day. I also sprayed it silver. And the start-up, is still one of the best start-ups ever.
Another interesting fact that may only be known to PlayStation owners in Japan and UK, was that you can buy a kit to make your own games called Net Yaroze, all you needed was a PC with an internet connection and the Sony Net Yaroze software development kit, which came with a black region free PlayStation. In the UK if the game was good it would be on the demo disc on the Official PlayStation Magazine UK. There were some good games that were build using Net Yaroze.
I like this guys(birds) voice. It's the Type of voice that you could trust and have an in depth discussion about meleculer fragmentation in polyphonic science.
I had to go check on number 6... I pulled out my copy of GT2 and smelled the disc... either you have been fooled or the scratch and sniff stuff lost all it's smell after that many years... just smells like plastic. :-(
Doy Owan it was a special edition released in PAL territories only. The discs are quite rare and hard to come about nowadays, but are very much a real thing.
Paid to have a mod chip installed in mine which made it able to play burner copies..also picked up a unfinished game called “Thrill Kill” great game, great system and still play every now and again till this day.
1:11 We've had brick wall limiters for a long time. One of the albums widely considered as kicking off the loudness war is 1996's What's the Story (Morning Glory), only one year after the US release of the PlayStation. There's nothing to stop a PlayStation disc from using a loud master. Also, CD audio is excellent, but not the best. 48K audio also existed at the time. Take a look at DAT. Are you confusing audio compression with data compression?
In the early 2000s my dad,my uncle and I played Spider-Man 2000 and Street Fighter Alpha 3. From time to time I watch as they tried playing the dualshock version of Resident Evil. In 2012 I got the Playstation back and still to this day I am addicted. I grew up with Playstation as a kid,I didn't have that many titles back then, now I keep my collection growing.
Legend have it, that Sony tried to screw over Nintendo in the contracts. What Sony did was made it so that they wud hold all the license. And even made hardware changes. That is why Nintendo did the deal with phillip to counter Sony.
Never heard about the hardware changes. But Sony did want to have a bigger cut of profit of console sales because it was their technology they were going to use, they also wanted to keep the licenses on those technologies. That would mean less money for Nintendo so they started to work with Phillip in secret while they were arguing with Sony. When Sony learned that Nintendo had gone to Phillip after they said no to them, Sony got pissed and decided to continue with the developing of the Playstation on their own. And the rest is history...
@@Anyienk9 the hardware changes by adding the CD compartment they already had the audio piece in the system from the first contract deal with Nintendo.
I’m going through Year of the Dragon from the Spyro Reignited trilogy. What a blast it’s been! I’m CRAVING some Jet Moto remake action. Just give me 60 FPS jet moto 2 and I will be happy for years.
I picked up a PS1 mini a couple of years ago and love it. Never owned a original Playstation as a kid though I love the games from Crash Bandicoot- Tomb Raider- Jersey Devil - Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 and many, many more
