hello mr. Barron, nice video as always. I think if any one wants to shoot wildlife sports and a lot of video they should ungrade to a7iv. Otherwise there's no need to upgrade cause a7iii still is a fantastic camera.

The customizable wheel instead of exposure compensation is great. I love that feature. I set mine to adjust my ISO on the fly, so I have dials for shutter, ISO, and aperture, all without going into the menu of hitting a single button. For shooting manual all the time, it's a thing I never knew I'd love so much! I have a 7iii also, and I can confirm that little thing is a game changer.

Now had the chance to use the A7IV few times this week, mostly for portraits and wildlife strangely (that time of year). I’d have to say the real time tracking is incredible. I didn’t know I missed it until I had it! Birds, dogs and people it performed brilliantly. To be honest, I can’t tell the difference in the EVF between A7iii and the A7IV, so it’s negligible. And ironically, the flip out screen is actually annoying when mounted on a L bracket if the tripod is positioned low….perhaps I was use to using it with screen flipped up! Nice summary Rauri, it’s a great camera and looking forward to giving it a proper run in the landscape!

Thanks Adrian! Yeah for photography that’s why I prefer the flip out screen, but I guess the fully articulating comes in handy for low down vertical compositions. I’d love this auto focus for my vlogging for sure, I never shoot animals so that’s not a big one for me in particular, but people and vlogging…it’s way better than Fuji! 😂 Thanks again!

I was initially excited about the dust cover as well until I learned it was the actual shutter that's being used for that function. Shutter blades are soo thin, fragile and expensive to repair if something goes wrong with them, that I will like NOT use this function and was soo hoping for finally having a dust solution.

Does Sony A7 Mark 4 also have heating problems?

It’s not a heating problem, all cameras turn off to protect the electronics if they get too hot. The A7iv has great heat dissipation technology same as a7siii and in settings you can adjust so it’s less sensitive to reacting to heat too. So it’s good 👍

Def upgrading from A7iii, that camera now having 4K in 60p just isn’t it let alone that record button crammed at the EVF is just not it either, let alone no flip out screen or have touch menu or anything? It’s too out-dated now compared to what people are putting out now? Crazy but thumbs up to sony for there amazing auto-focus and having all cameras use E-mount, that’s a huge plus!

The customisation potential of this camera is where it trumps the Canon R6. For photography the R6 has customisation across every dial with everything catered for, but is lacking several with the video options. Whereas from what you've described in this, the video customisation in the 4 is equal to the photography...add the S&Q mode into the mix and the Sony pulls ahead in that field for sure.

I had to Google S&Q. Seems the 3 custom setups for video and photo is pretty similar to the R5's. Big difference is the apparently better heat management in the Sony. If I was just starting out and didn't have a heap of (ridiculously expensive) Canon lenses, this video probably would have convinced me to start with Sony.

I had a look at the R5 body looks quite different, but canon bodies look quite foreign to me 😂, Sony calls them the memory recall, so each number can save a full setting setup, I have one for landscape which puts it into manual, stabilisation off for tripod use, face AF off, f11 start etc etc. so quick! Love it! But the A7iii doesn’t have it separately for movie which sucks, so sharing 3 for video and photos is limiting. so the R5 has the same? Thanks for watching mate.

@@RauriBarron Yes, the R5 has pretty much exactly the same thing - 3 for stills and 3 for video. For photos, I just have one with the aperture priority settings I like to use for general use, and then I use manual for everything else, but for video, I have one set up for 100fps @ 4K, one for 25fps @ 4K, and one 100fps @ 1080p. Each has its own settings that it remembers and are independent of each other (things like focus mode, colour profile etc). I don't remember what Canon calls them - something like custom profiles or something like that.

Really? Seems like a desperately easy thing to overcome. Get your exposure how you want it, dial the exposure comp back a stop, take a pic. Dial it up a stop, take a pic. Dial it up one more stop, take a pic. Done.

@@Xirpzy I mean my cell phone has bracketing too. For me personally, it’s not a huge deal. I can just use the exposure dial. I haven’t seen where it doesn’t have bracketing though. Maybe it does?

I hesitate between A7IV or Canon R5 (more expensive and less LENS selection + RF lens are expensive), but so much better camera (better EVF, LCD, Burst-Rate, 4K DCI 60 / 120 4.2.2 10 bit without huge crop / 8K 30 4.2.2 10 bits, better colour science, better AF (100% on the sensor, 1054 points), AF on helmet, car... 45 MPX etc...

@@RauriBarron Thank you, I could put another 1,500E in the case. However, there is the issue of optics. And this is a problem because Sony allows to have very good optics from third-party manufacturers (Tamron for example). I know that at Canon, there is also this possibility (ex: Samyang) but I think it is much more limited. If I can spend 1,500E more in the case, I can’t double my budget on optics as well. So it’s either I buy less optics immediately but I have a great case. Either I buy the A7IV with immediately the 3 optics that I want, but I have to deal with limitations on this case... Difficult choice.

I just sold my R6, 2 RF lenses and my old D500 to get the a7IV and... I sold the a7IV within 2 days for 2,000 EUR just so I can buy the R6 again... The a7IV is HUGELY exaggerated all over the internet! I shot Nikon and Canon for over 10 years now and this was the first time using a Sony camera and the camera is just... Overpriced piece of Chinese trash - is the best I can describe it. I'm down over 500 EUR but I just couldn't stand the a7IV any longer, I had to get back on the R6... From the feeling of the camera, to the build quality, to the image quality... Everything about it was terrible!

I have the A7IV and used it last week for bird photography. The Bird AF performed exceedingly well where there was contrast between the birds eye and feathers. For example, it was able to quickly lock on to parrot at reasonable distance (I only have 70-200) but a black wood duck not as good. However, I’m saying that it defaulted to normal AF and the image was still sharp. I’m not bird photographer but I was keen to see how it went. So far, I’d say it’s impressive and the AF is significantly better than A7iii, so responsive.

Hey thank you very for the reply! Sounds good - hope it meets my expectations and that it’s at hopefully close to R6 AF performance. But so far I’ve seen at least a few samples and looked okay at least. I know it’s not a top notch wildlife camera more like does everything camera but still hoping to get pleasing images paired with the 200-600

@@tomkro9704 I’ve never shot with Canon but I saw a video with their car AF and that’s very impressive. However the real time tracking was great on A7IV in a lot of times especially with very “flighty” little birds like Honeyeater. Where the bird was sitting on a branch like a Cockatoo or a parrot the Bird AF nailed it first instance but like I said I’m no bird photographer. You have a nice combo there was 200-600, so I hope you enjoy it too!

So If one upgrades, stay to the same brand so you can use your already got lens, spare batteries, chargers flashes an other accessories. No sense to got to a camera shop and buy a whole new outfit. Well, unless one is rich. Selling old gear is gonna take time.

Buy this, don't buy this, get this instead, but wait 10 reasons you should get this.. and finally 10 reasons why you shouldn't 😅 Keep milking the cow, mate! I don't usually leave comments on videos but you're literally making the same content everyone else is.. same reasons, same clips for the features, etc. without even having the camera on hand! And then every other video contradicting the previous one, I mean c'mon mate, surely you can come up with some new ideas :) Sorry, but c'mon!

Im not saying “buy this buy that” - my last video was a recommendation for landscape photographers in summary, the A7iii is still good and for that use you don’t need to get the A7iv. I’m not contradicting anything, feel free to get the points I’ve discussed, write them down and compare, these are 10 points I think are a solid upgrade from my A7iii from PERSONAL EXPERIENCE. Just because I’m not getting the A7iv yet doesn’t mean I think it’s bad. But nothing is perfect and each camera has their pros and cons, so I will also make a video on what I think are the negatives - I use my cameras a lot and know what I like, and im entitled to my opinion, so happy to share that. If you’re not interested, don’t watch, I really couldn’t care less.
