SG's are workhorse guitars. The sound is in between that of a strat and a les Paul, warm and sharp, and it has a lot of versatility, especially with coil tapping/split. I love 'em!

There are quite a few songs that were played with humbuckers on John's White Falcon or his Black Beauty Les Paul like Californication, Otherside, Readymade or Fortune Faded. Also a whole bunch that were played on a Tele or a Strat bridge pickup like Can't Stop or Easily. But yeah, generally it's single coil strat neck pickup

I love how a lot of these riffs are strat based, but strats with stacked single coil humbuckers (YJM), single coil humbuckers (Knopfler) or even a dummy coil making it a faux humbucker (SRV).

SG's have always been known for their versatility and adaptability for songs where a Fender might typically be used.

Try playing some of these riffs on a LP and fail miserably! SG's truly are versatile, more than the Tele I'd venture to say. It all depends on your amps and playing style. If you have an amp that can take you from blues to heavy metal then your SG can do it all right alongside it.

I often play Le Freak and Another Brick in the Wall pt II on my SG, because it’s an Epiphone one where both humbuckers have a coil split, so it sounds pretty spot-on.

Well a significant amount of the guitar work on Another Brick in the Wall was recorded on a Les Paul with P90 pickups so the combination of split coils with the thinner body would probably make it fairly easy to dial in something appropriate.

lol i think everybody can play what he wants where he wants and with the guitar he wants considering the wall was played with a LP :) for the solo and Hendrix played with Gibson guitars too, Clapton wanted that this Strat to sound like a SG, so no problem at all man!Second, the lp sg has now coil tap, out of phase and more so no pb for them to sound funky : ) try a coil split :) or lighter gauge strings and no problems at all ! keep on rocking !

My first guitar was a Hondo SG clone, it had a fixed neck and actual decent humbuckers. Machine heads sucked but I replaced them all with after market Gibson parts.

The SG also feels a lot easier to play, its light, has double cutaways, shorter frets, and a thinner neck. It's a hot rod. Sure it's a little top heavy, but it only weighs 4 lbs, takes no effort to hold it up.
