I just started a new job a week ago, and quit today. I knew right away that the environment wasn’t sound. I wasn’t going to wait for a nervous breakdown and get fired.

This was actually really good advice! I’ve been thinking of this for months now and i just can’t confront myself about how much I don’t fit in this job. But i think you’re right about the cycle of not being happy. I’m convincing myself that i have a great team and all but i just can’t get excited anymore about anything in this job. I truly believe that you have to live a meaningful life only for yourself and that’s when you are happy.

hi there. just was wondering. if you found yourself in a job where you were told to move to be closer..you do thinking you would be at the office. but you end up working at your flat.. and then you find that your just in a holding pattern waiting for work.. despite people being nice (u work alone but do have comm with a small team) would u have rights to question the role? and look elsewhere. After under 2 months? asking in general

Keep in mind that for all those issues, at any decent company, there are trainings offered that help you to deal with those challenges and make you a better fit. At least that is what my boss keeps telling me.

Hi Grant, I been watching some of your Amazon videos, and I have learned a lot of things I didn’t know about the AM position. I am currently an associate, but I have received an offer to move up to AM. I have already accepted the offer, however, i was wondering if you knew anything about Prime Now. I have been assigned to AM at a Prime Now facility, and want to know more about the role before my start date. Thank you so much!
@Grant0669
@Grant0669 3 года назад
That is great you have been able to learn some new things. Prime Now is associate with Who Foods and Amazon Fresh. I am not sure what your job function would be in that realm - you could potentially manage a team of associates who are the shopper for the customers that place order within these apps, but for clarity I would contact your recruiter for a solid explanation

I don't know why these people are not doing their own research and asking the company directly. You accepted an offer to something you know nothing about. Genius.

Don't normally comment, I've been working in engineering as a designer but like one of your points, I'm sat at my desk bored majority of the day, the criticism which I get from my work is chipping away at my soul it feels like. Not too sure where to navigate as I've done this for a while.

Hey grant, just started am position, back half nights. I am doing inbound stow and feeling a little lost week 3. Kind of being thrown into the deep end, any suggestions on how to learn all the rates and how to navigate all the links? Man this job is crazy.

I would say to just reach out to different managers and PAs in your area. It doesn’t matter if they’re on your shift or not just reach out to people and there’s a lot that are willing to help! I was definitely lost in my first few months and still don’t know everything at the 6 month mark but I feel much better. Just try and hang in there and reach out to everybody that you can.

Learning about rates as well as navigating the links is definitely stressful - both of those are learning curves a lot of AMs face. I am an AFE manager and in our department each position has its own set of rates/various metrics housed in different websites illustrated across varying platforms (raw data, graphs, charts, illustrations, etc). Your PAs and other AMs will be your most valuable asset when it comes to learning how to navigate both of these areas. I suggest making a list of the items you would like to learn, whether it be a list of questions or simply a list of data points that you just want the URL for - and then bring that to the PA/AM you ask so you can guide that conversation. I bookmark every link that I feel I will need in the future, so as you accrue these resources definitely develop some structure of organization so you can quickly refer to the data. It is also very helpful to pin the most important/most used links to the top of your browser so they are always there.

Were you feeling these things? is that why you are going to Florida or did you get assigned to move facilities?

Hi Grant. I am from Liverpool, UK. I have recently applied for an Area Manager role and have a phone interview on Thursday. Any tips? Did you go through similar processes? TIA. Gary.
@Grant0669
@Grant0669 3 года назад
Hi Gary - I would assume the phone interview would be very casual since it is the first touchpoint you would have with recruiters. My advice for this is simply to know how to answer why you are seeking the role, and to have a couple questions ready so you can learn more about the application and interviewing process in full. I wish you the best of luck!
