In today's video I provide a crash course of operations, which includes a breakdown of popular terms you will likely encounter. Keep in mind this is simply an overview and that there are entire degrees dedicated to this.

Great video! I took an Operations Management class last semester and we talked about these in class. Aside from operations, what strategies/rituals help you get through long shifts at Amason? What's worked or hasn't worked?
@Grant0669
@Grant0669 3 года назад
Thank you! Glad to hear you went over these topics in more depth in your class. What helps me get through the long shifts is eating regularly, staying hydrated, not letting the stressors affect my mood, having a rhythm for checking all the data sources I needed to ensure operations run smoothly (they do not always run smoothly), and communicating with the others I work alongside constantly.

Hi! Thank you for the helpful video:) I have a final interview for the graduate operations manager position after two days and I’m super excited!! What kind of technical questions would they ask? Cuz i have no experience, just fresh graduated from Industrial engineering. Did you prepare stories for all of the leadership principles? Interview will be 3x30 min. And I’m open for any suggestions! Thank you so much!!

Thank you for watching! My degree is industrial engineering as well. I cannot speak on the questions they ask you - preparing stories for the leadership principles is a good idea, and definitely read through any communication you have been sent very thoroughly

Soooo. What do area managers at Amazon do if they don’t want to continue with Amazon? Is there a job equivalent outside of Amazon? Also, I’ve been told you should “move to improve”. Ie. Moving to a new FC, especially a launch, will aid in securing your next promotion more quickly. I’ve also been told by an L8, that if you’ve been in the same job more than 4 years, your career at Amazon has reached its pinnacle. He said aim to move every 18-30 months to move through the ranks most efficiently. Any ideas on all that?
@Grant0669
@Grant0669 3 года назад
If an Area Manager did not want to continue with Amazon, they can take those transferrable skills and work in operations at another company that is focused on supply chain, or really try and take their background and skills and try their best to move into an industry that better suits their interests. I believe there is merit to what you are saying about moving to improve, as well as career trajectories at launches, however that is not always the case and that is definitely not the only way to become successful. It is possible to stay at one site throughout you career in operations, but opportunity is much more plentiful if you are open to relocating when opportunities for career advancement become available at other locations. In terms of being in a role for more than 4 years, I would agree that is quite a long time to be in a role especially if you are at the beginning of your career

Is it true that the only type of Amazon warehouse that does not have overnight shifts is delivery stations? @ Grant Anderson

There may be some delivery stations that do not operate overnight, however from my understanding delivery stations typically do have night shifts

Is a cover letter required? I’m currently with JPMC and they don’t use cover letters in their hiring process.
@Sanijfu
@Sanijfu 3 года назад
One of the ways that Amazon considers itself "peculiar" is that they don't accept cover letters. They believe everything about a person relevant to the job can be fit and found in the resume.
@Grant0669

Not typically - other employers give you the option or require you to. It’s all dependent on which company you’re seeking
