I've started to use Jakes videos since the lockdown in the UK. I've never done tai chi before so have no idea if the comments about his form are true or false but I don't care. The breathing exercises can only help when there is a virus around that affects the respiration system. Being fitter will give us more chance if we become infected. I feel fitter mentally and physically after only three weeks. Thanks Jake.

Exactly my thoughts ha! In Avatar, each bender has a different fighting technique, like waterbending has Tai Chi, firebending came from tiger fighting style I believe, airbending from Baguazhang, or 8 diagram palm, and I don't remember which is the one from earthbending.

This guy is inspirational in the sense that he gives beginners motivation to practise tai chi. But to be honest, I can point out quite a number of flaws from his tai chi (not that I wanna criticise him or anything, but I believe we should all practise it the right way): 1. At 6:25, posture 5, you shouldn't be bending your knees to the point that it overshoots your toes when doing the "bow stance". This will cause more stress on your knees. Also, hands should be pushed out from the waist level instead of the chest (6:23). 2. At 8:38, posture 7, it should be the movement of the waist that brings the body to face from the front to the side rather than using the shoulders to guide the movement. Tai chi is about generating motion and strength from the bottom half of the body. Just like when you're punching in the tai chi way, strength should be generated from the waist and not the shoulders/arm itself. 3. At 10:10, posture 8, the bottom of the left palm should be pushing directly above (like 1cm?) the right palm (that is facing up). This is supposed to be a self defense move. Imagine when someone grabs your right wrist. This moves allows you to "push" or "rub off" his hands off you. Cheers!
@lcrackel
@lcrackel 6 лет назад
To be honest, the only way you're going to learn the correct way and practice it correctly is to take classes. I don't have time for that, so this is a good way to start even if I am going to get some of it wrong.

Once upon a time there's one best Archer in the whole country who never miss... The king call this man and The King gather all considered The Best Archers in that Country. The King request him to train them and make Elite Troops of Archers... The Man said he want 100 man Who never wield a Bow and never know how to do archery. The King wonder why but agreed with his request. Few months after that The Man give The King 100 Elite Archers. Then The King Asking why he's not train 100 archers that already prepared before? Why 100 man who never Wield a bow? The Man explain to The King, "100 Man that My Lord prepared for is good but they already have their way with the bow. The way they grab the bow or shoot the arrows is different each others. If I must correct their habit or mistakes this gonna takes more time than teaching a new one and that If they want to accept my teaching that's a good thing, but what if they don't wanna accept my method?" So if you want to learn a new thing better learn from the right not for the wrong... Don't say "a bit mistakes not gonna change a thing this is wrong mindset." Don't waste your time by learning wrong. It's hard to correct the wrong than learn a new thing...

very observant.... ALL true, I am no pro, but I did notice some errors, but you caught it all.....Good job....The other thing about the vid, is doing all the moves under water, we cannot see his feet, or lower legs under the river water, ....which , to the beginner.to me, .. is essential.....He is not bad, really, but, he puts his own twist on it, that is for sure....

This is lovely - i started Tai Chi a few years ago when i was house-bound due to an illness- i am so grateful to generous people that will share on RU-vid -because there would be no other way for people like me to learn. Not only did the Tai Chi help me recover from the illness; but I believe it also leant strength and helped in other ways that i was then able to go further and do other physical activities that i hadn't in 14 years or more. Now it's winter and VERY COLD - and i miss being active. Thank you for this to get me going again!

I liked this practice Before it had advertisements I couldn’t skip. Advice: Add those to the beginning and end of your videos, not in the middle. Edit: Until then I’ll practice else where.

He can't control where RU-vid places advertisements. It's very unfortunate, but you'll run into the same issue on pretty much every single RU-vid video :( It isn't his fault.

IM READING ALOT OF COMMENTS SOME GOOD SOME BAD WELL ALOT NEGATIVE. ..OBVIOUSLY THIS IS NOT YANG STYLE SHORT OR LONG FORM..AND WHO CARES IF HE IS MAKING IT UP..AT LEAST HE IS PRACTICING TAI CHI..HE IS CONSTANTLY IMPROVING HIMSELF AND ACTUALLY THE MOVEMENTS ARE TAI CHI JUST NOT ANY KNOWN EXISTING FORM...AND YES IT IS IMPERATIVE TO KNOW WHAT THE FEET ARE DOING. .BUT IT'S A GREAT VIDEO FOR BEGINNERS OR ADVANCED STUDENTS. ..LISTEN, IF YOU ALL ARE TRUE MARTIAL ARTIST. ..WHY THEN WOULD YOU NOT CONGRATULATE JAKE ON EXCELLING? WOULD YOU ALL TREAT YOUR STUDENTS LIKE YOUR TRYING TO TREAT JAKE WITH CONTEMPT AND DISPARAGING COMMENTS? REALLY, IS THAT WHAT TYPE OF INSTRUCTOR YOU ALL ARE...OFFERING DISCOURAGEMENT INSTEAD OF ENCOURAGEMENT. ..I IMPLORE YOU TO CHANGE YOUR ATTITUDE. ..WITH LOVE I WILL ASK SEE THROUGH THE EYES OF YOUR MIND AND LEARN.

If it truly was for beginners who have never done tai chi before, like me, he should be explaining each move as he is doing them. I don't want to have put reading glasses on to read what move it is after he's started.

because this is NOT taijiquan....where is the chansijin? where is the apropriate back shape? where is the 6 harmonies? but ok there´s a lot more of fake taiji masters out there....if you really know something about taiji then you will agree...
@jollybigfist

Ok heres some encouragement. 1st 10 seconds. Relax. Move slower. Forget about timing your breathimg and simply breathe naturally. Your sinking should come from relaxing your rising should come from the termination of sinking. These few points will improve your taichi immensely. I " encourage" you to continue practicing. Yes any movement can be taichi. Provided the taichi principles can be seen at work within the movement. If not then it isnt taiji.

Eloy Garcia If he is making it up, then its not Tai Chi, IDIOT!
@jollybigfist
@jollybigfist 5 лет назад
Eloy the problem is that with taichi, its important to practice as correctly as possible in accordanve with the principles of the art. Foundational methods of movement and energy expression are constantly refined. Most of what i see in Jakes taichi is wrong. And if you practice it you will inly be reinforcing errors that will never lead to real skill. Perfect practice makes perfect. All he is making of his students is a mess in my opinion.

Sir, if you teach an art that you don't master, you ought to tell your students first. Don't get me wrong, the video and the setting are beautiful and inspiring. If it makes people want to delve deeper into tai chi, then great! But I think people have the right to know what they're being sold here. This is not tai-chi. These are relaxation techniques based on a facsimile of tai-chi. Surely you have the right to teach, but definitely not to fool people. Peace.
@Pat21617
@Pat21617 5 лет назад
Julien Radillo well said! Also, you can’t learn tai chi on line, you need an instructor to coach and show you how the proper way to move is. Anyone that pays this guy a cent ($0.01) is wasting their money

@@Pat21617 Well said, Patrick and Julien. Though he certainly knows how to find beautiful scenery, I too, highly recommend learning tai chi from a qualified master in person, as that's the only way for the teacher to correct thet student! As a Bagua and Yang Style practitioner, tai chi is all about "rooting" and footwork, and unfortunately Mr. Mace doesn't touch on this, and obviouly not possible when doing a video in moving water.

I think the consciousness becomes one with everything. Even if it is hard to imagine for us, but singularity is the highest form of existence. Many people try to get to this state as close as possible, with meditation. We are here to experience life and make the most out of it. We are part of a complex omni present ,being' experiencing itself through us. And when we die we become one with everything, even if we never truly were seperated. Namaste Jake

Grandmaster YC Chiang would admonish you to sink your body when your arms go up and raise your body when your arms go down. I know this is for beginners, but you should practice the principle automatically in your practice even when demonstrating for beginners. You needn't tell them what you are doing at first. Also automatic is moving your body back as your arms extend and forward as your arm pull in. It is difficult for me to watch the video when you do not demonstrate basic principles. Otherwise I like the scenery, music and movements.

Mr. Mace, Thank you for making this video. Ever since I discovered it (at least 3-4 weeks back), I've worked out to this video almost every night. I've started losing weight: my coworkers even noticed! Having a relaxing, easy-going exercise routine with this video has really helped with my stress levels as I go to work and school full-time. Thank you so much and keep producing wonderful videos! I wish I lived in Arizona so I could frequent your school.

I am sorry, but you should have not show or teach taichi, go to find some good teacher and start over, even the basics you are doing are wrong. Its really important to have teacher, a good one and study for life with him, because he will teach you to be humble and give you real perspective. If you have learnt your taichi at some school, maybe you left too early to start your school or to teach and your teacher should never allow you to do so. You in your ignorance, are making, this awesome and respectful kung fu style with great history, a parody, a circus, a joke! Please stop, at least don't go online, or go do yoga or call what ever you do some other name then Taichi. thank you
