I'm pretty sure the axe on the back of Curtis Axel's singlet was a nod to his grandfather, Larry "The Axe" Henning. But yeah, it did look weird on him.
That night at No Way Out 2001 with Undertaker wearing the tights was also the only night, I believe, that Kane wore an all black version of his gear (not counting the mask) as well. Kane definitely pulled off the change better than Taker.

@@merkcityboy834 Motorhead got away with wearing all sorts of German military insignia forever and Triple H was a huge Motorhead fan. I don't think the connections to Nazis and right wing politics was the same in the 90s and 00s as it would be now. I don't think anybody considered Triple H's iron cross logos to be offensive, whether they were left wing or not. Back then we thought Nazis were buried... Little did anybody know how things were going to change.

I find it funny that John Cena looks incredibly wrong in specifically full length jeans. No other pants are quite so weird. Even the yellow pants were relatively okay. Just full length jeans look horrible on him as ring gear. Probably the dissonance of being similar to what the norm is, but fundamentally different.
Regarding The Undertaker's tights in 2001, Cultaholic missed an opportunity to talk about Kane's all black outfit that he never wore again since that same match. Both men wearing one night only attire..
I remember when ultimate warrior was wearing a baseball cap during his rivalry with Jerry lawler or his leather jacket during the contract signing with hogan.
No mention of Kane's colour reversal monstrosity at Invasion I think, might have been Survivor Series but he was certainly in a 10man tag elimination match.
HBK's tights would have been fine if they were finished. Just imagine it, with blue hearts across all of them. It would have looked ace. Probably would have looked even better with proper wrestling boots on instead of cowboy boots too, or, you know, the motocross boots that HBK used to wear and Dolph Ziggler still wears. I can't remember anyone wearing them before HBK, so I'm pretty sure he invented it. But yeah on the day of the match he turned up to pick up his tights from the guy who made them and they weren't even close to finished. So he had no time to fly home and pick up an old pair of tights, he was stuck with these ones. But yeah it's a shame. Cos I think that they get unfairly maligned a bit, if they were covered all over by blue hearts then they would have looked great. And his terrible haircut was also an accident. He never planned on coming back to wrestling after his street fight match with HHH. So he had his hair cut right after the summerslam match. But then all of a sudden WWE wants to give him another match and even a run with the world title, so he had to try and grow as much hair back as possible between then and survivor series. Which was only 2 or 3 months. So he grew back what he could but it wasn't enough. He could have worn extensions but those probably would have looked even worse, and probably would have fallen out during the match which would have just been embarrassing Similar to The Undertaker as Wrestlemania 20. He got buried alive as biker taker with short hair at survivor series 2003 and came back as dead man taker at the following wrestlemania only a few months later in 2004, so he didn't have long enough to grow his hair back completely, and it looked terrible. Also his ring gear sucked ass compared to his various ring gear from the years in the attitude era leading up to becoming biker taker. His big shoulder pad mortal kombat ninja (except black) look he had at wrestlemania 14 against Kane, looked much better. When he came back as the dead man he just kept on wearing what he'd been wearing as a big Evil taker except with fewer red logos and stuff. It sucked ass. Even his ministry of darkness look was much better, you know, goth leather strap-on kink taker. Undertaker after his return as the deadman was just boring compared to prime deadman taker.
The snakeskin pants are a badass look. The particular ones Taker wore were just a tad too light in shade, whether the Godfather story is true or not. But I could totally see Badass then later Big Evil rocking snakeskin pants for a run.

I once went to a WWE Live event and saw Alberto Del Rio sporting long black tights. It was very odd looking and people were confused. Guess he was experimenting with them and didn’t like them.
Angle may have ditched that attire, but that didn't stop it from reappearing in a couple of video games, namely Smackdown vs Raw, and Day of Reckoning. I think he wore it in the WrestleMania 21 game too, if memory serves me right. Oh yeah, I do remember HBK's brown attire being in Smackdown: Here Comes the Pain as well.

I’m with you on 80% of them, Adam. Bret’s pink singlet helped the larger narrative of the match he used them in and honestly, I think I prefer the long pants look for Razor Ramon. 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
Seth Rollins had one of the illist wrestling attires ever with the white ranger inspired gear back at summerslam 2015.Unfortunately Vinnie Mac did not like it and Seth never wore it again. Which is sad because he pulled off The "All White Everything" style very well.

@@samgibson7024 Yes but he wrestled 2 matches for WM30. He had to wrestle HHH first in a singles match where if he won, he’d be in the world title match later that night. He beat HHH and then entered the world title match where he won the world titles by winning the triple threat match.

I know this video only covered WWE, but I was never able to get used to seeing Okada in pants. I remember a huge pop from the crowd when he switched back to his trunks
I hated the fuck out of the Okada pants. Doesn't help that he kept those for like, over a year and during the peak of his historic 2-year title reign. To make matters worse, once he finally ditched those for a while, he reverted to some golden diaper-like trunks for seemingly, the entirety of 2020. Thankfully, Okada seems to have learned his lesson and is currently sticking to his usual shorts for now.

It was wrong that information about the snakeskin pants. He TOTALLY commissioned that gear. According to him, he commissioned his gear-designer a pair of snakeskin pants, thinking it would look cool, even after his designer recomended him not to do it. Taker himself regrets this decision as he realized how horrible it looked and denied it was the Godfather's pants in an interview.
Triple h with those purple med cut trucks in the evolution era ughhh hated those even when he wore the black ones. Or the rock woring the black Addis suit BUT granted he had surgery around his stomach
I don't fully buy the "airline lost my gear" story for Undertaker's snakeskin trousers. I mean he was doing the American Badass gimmick, why couldn't he just go out n get a new pair of denim jeans like he'd been wearing before?
Watched Survivor Series 1993 top to bottom numerous times and I can assure you that Smith Hart was NOT in the Family Feud match the Hart Family members were Bret , Owen , Keith and Bruce with their dad Stu in their corner .
I know it’s not WWE related but Does anybody remember Matt Morgan in TNA with his gold trunks and boots with a cape? I’m glad that gear ended quickly. Lol
