I love my built 2010 Toyota Tacoma on one tons and 40s, but the platform has some drawbacks..

Regarding the view upfront, how about adding a front camera like some have done and how some vehicles now come with?

What’s better overall for an off-road trip deep into the woods?? Old school Toyota pickup or the larger Tacoma?

The rear leg room. Load 4 adults with 2 in the back then do a long drive like 9 hours. They will be tortured like the japanese imperial army sacked them at the back seats.

Lots of the baja guys have trouble with the racks as well and swap them for customs, might wanna check the pressure on your ps system but those tires are not doing you any favours. The cheap trick is always changing the spring for higher pressure eh.

I'm able to get 3.116:1 low range gears for the HF2A t-case in my 80 series. Perhaps the Tacoma has something similar available without going the full monty and running dual cases?

What is your plan for the transmission crossmember if you were to do dual cases? I'm planning a similar build but I already have a NW Fab eco crawler. Just curious how they would play together.

Each thing you mentioned are the exact issues I hate about my FJ60 on 33's. That is one "premium" Taco. Nice to see your cameo at the Gambler camp

Your Taco rocks my friend! Amazon sells small weatherproof cameras that connect to phone or tablet. Maybe that would help you see better when crawling. Stay safe! 😎

Buy one of those cheap office seat cushions for when you go off-roading. It’s serves as a comfortable booster seat and you can see much better.

Keep the center section of that front bumper an build a set of tube bumpers off of the center section. Kind of a hybrid front bumper

Got an idea about your viewing angle from the front seat. Back when I got my 84' pickup I ran across something about tilting your front seat forward. So for early pickups up 95' you can take a sway bar bushing and put it under the rear seat bracket corners (gonna need longer bolts) at the floorboard and this will lift the butt of the seat and change your viewing angle. Wheel width is another reason why I have never done the 1ton swap. As a daily that decision will make things just a little things difficult. Try shortening you center to center wheel base by moving your rear springs forward. With my 84' it was a single cab 4X4. I got tired of not having room in the cab and because I couldn't find a good bed for a 84-85 I did a extended cab swap with a cab and bed from a 93 pickup. Being it is a single cab frame and was installing Chevy 63" springs I still wanted my rear tire centered in the wheel well. I got my springs installed and measured the difference between Toyota springs and the Chevy springs and that measurement is amount you take out of the front of the bed by bobbing the front it. Of course you will need to deal with the fuel tank position, fuel/brake lines, and wiring, but you will end up with a very short wheel base pickup. Or take a stock extended cab truck 89-95 cut 6" out of the center of the frame, bob the front of the bed 6" and get a shorter drive line, shorten brake/fuel lines, and wiring and bob is your uncle. If you want to go one step further bob the rear of the bed 6 more inches now you got departure angle and a shouter wheel base.
