This video is so heartwarming - especially in this times when so many people complain about almost everything! Your way of seeing Germany really opens the eyes - every complaining German should see it.... ;-)
About walking everywhere: There is no better way to get to know a new place than waking. Most European city centers are small enough to explore on foot.
I am from Guate and I agree with Jen. I live abroad and can definitely compare and contrast. People that were born and raised in 1st world countries don’t know how good they have it.
Being from El Salvador and having lived in Germany for 2 years now, I totally agree with most points! Personally, my favorite are things2, 3 and 9. Great video as always, greetings!
My wife and I really enjoy watching your videos! We are hoping to emigrate to Germany from America in the next few years, and the videos on your channel are super helpful! Thank you again!
I travelled Central America some 20 years ago and also had a stopover in Guatemala City to take a plane to Honduras the next day. When I tried to leave the Hotel in Guatemala City in the evening to grab some food, the hotel manager asked me not to leave the hotel because it was too dangerous and that the hotel kitchen could fix me something if I was hungry. I followed the advice and I think it was a good idea.
As a Guatemalan, honestly I think he might have exaggerated. True it’s not as close as safe as Germany but you can have dinner in a lot of nice places and you will be fine. I go out every week and 😅 never had a negative experience in my 30 years living here. Again it depends on where you go but not going outside cause you are scared it’s crazy 🥲sorry you had this impression of Guatemala City.
❤❤I'm almost through watching all the videos you guys made. Thank you for being such warm hearted people. I love you guys. I'm currently living in Nigeria. I hope I'll see you soon in Germany. Thank you again ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I love Oktoberfest as well....and I've been to the one in Munich quite often. I would recommend going to one of the smaller towns in Bavaria for their version of the same festival. I went to a Starkbierfest in a small town and it was SO great! No drunk tourists, competitions for men and women, and of course, great music!
Hi Jen and Yvonne! I just want to send a big thank you to you both as your channel has been really helpful and resourceful!! I will actually be moving to Düsseldorf later in the summer all the way from my home New York for an amazing job opportunity! I came across your channel, and it has really helped me gain a better understanding of living In Germany as an expat. I will continue to watch until I arrive and hopefully get myself mentally prepared for what awaits me in this new chapter of my life xD! - Thank you again! - David
I'm sure you get this all the time: I love your videos!! But especially becauseI can relate with Jen, as a Honduran (one of Guatemala's neighboring countries). I haven't yet left for Germany, tho.
I love your energies and perspectives coming together to make such a balanced view of what it's like to live in germany. As well as the care you put into these. Thank you for making this series
I love your discussion on number 8. I am from Germany, but also have lived and spent lots of time in the Americas (north and south). I know exactly what you mean and you did an awesome job addressing this delicate topic. Excellent video overall!!
I love walking in Germany, and I love being able to take the train all over Europe from Germany (plenty to see and do IN Germany as well by train). I have never taken a bus here, but I am hoping to learn that system as well. :) Thanks for such a wonderfully detailed look at life in Germany!
I am usually lazy when it comes to breakfasts. Sometimes, a cup of coffee is sufficient. Sometimes, a ready-made bread roll from the local bakery with salmon or camembert cheese is fine. Easy peasy quick and dirty is pre made waffles freshly toasted with sour cream and raspberry jelly. In a hotel, I usually enjoy a full featured American breakfast with scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages, bread rolls, pancakes with Nutella or Canadian marple syrup. But that's rare and more like brunch.
Totally agree about walking. It is nice and safe to walk in Germany. I hope I can come back and do it again. Thanks for your videos ladies. I enjoy them.
Awesome video again. Your experiences and insights are always interesting. I’m from Australia and have seen your Bondi jumpers. Would love to hear your experiences from Australia. A ‘Simple Australia’ episode perhaps? Helping travellers settle into life in Australia more smooothly?
I think you can only do videos like these if you actually have immigrated to a country and lived there a few years. I don't think either Jen or Yvonne have immigrated to Australia.
For some reason, i love your videos so much. I will even rewatch them sometimes! Like i am doing right now! I don't even plan on moving to Germany but we never know xD Love from Québec, Canada
Thank you..... You open my eyes to a new look.... I always loved my country (born and always lived in Germany).... and now I know some more arguments for it🤗
The parents I see with kids in the Fahrradanhänger never ride electric bikes. They are pedaling their asses off, maybe as a kind of frustration killer, maybe as a free workout. Of course it might be different from D to B. 😉
Probably too expensive, have you seen the prices for an good e-Bike nowadays? My brother have bought in April one and it have cost him a fortune (i think almost 600 euros) especially with an safe and electric (for the breaking lights) system for the children’s transportation trailer
@@PPfilmemacher For sure those things are expensive! I would rather buy some really cool toys or food for my kids or put the money in a piggy bank, than buying an ebike.
You are an adorable couple. The content is very informative and people should choose to see the good in their own countries. I would like to attend Oktoberfest at least once in my life.
As a Guatemalan doctor living in Philly w my German bf from Griesheim, you two have been a great find .. I often times wonder if I’ll end up in Germany but having been there 4 times already .. and seeing how complex it can be it’s sort of scary and hearing all of your experiences is of great help .. though I’m still not sure if would fit in Germany .. I’m getting spoiled with American comfort and simplicity when it comes to dealing w work , banking , services , how easy it is to do things online here plus a better salary (that’s the toughest part because I’m sure my quality of life would be better in Germany but at the expense of $$ and it’s hard to let it go )!
Hello beautiful ladies can you please do a video regarding buying things online from AliExpress I I have heard that this is quite a pain regarding taxes and I would like to get more clarification on this perhaps also bringing things from other countries to Germany once you move there
I always look forward to your new videos and often review them. It has been really nice to see the development in your lives. Jen becomes evermore fond of her life in Germany. She´s at the point of being more German than "die Deutschen" Soon we´ll see her singing "Deutschland über alles" It's so good to see that the things we've been struggling for (and somewhat gained) like security and equality in all parts of life are being valued. Although I´m Danish and being a frequent visitor to Germany both Jen's and Yvonne's points of view make me understand my own culture better. Thanks a lot.
In the best of my hopes I presume that Jen will NEVER sing "D.ü.a."!! You are right that she is evolving to being evermore fond of the country where she lives and has found all aspects of happiness! However, what you're saying would only result in her singing "Einigkeit und Recht und Freiheit" though! Please do never confuse these two. If somebody said that to me, I'd be offended, while you mean to flatter! ;)
New subscriber here bingewatching your channel. You two are ADORABLE! Such funny and positive vibes. Jen, I LOVE your sprudelndes English. It's a pleasure to listen to you (both!). Keep up with these videos and you'll soon have a million subscribers! Warm greetings from a gay man in Augsburg.
Lovely video. The last part is hilarious :D I can't believe Jen wants to go to Ballerman and loves the Schutzenfest! Most Germans I know find them cringy :D
I love seeing a "western" becoming aware of how life really is in third world countries. I am from Brazil and the point made here about security really hits home for me as well. As a very shallow example, as soon as you start making some money here which is already very difficult because of many socioeconomic factors, well from that moment on you should consider living in a gated community because it is borderline crazy to think I will take my to the streets from my street house's garage. Everyone here will say you are crazy and you are "asking to get robbed" for doing that. That is something first world people cannot fathom in my experience. And this of course contributes to more and more income inequality because even mild economic success brings out the "i am rich" mentality, which is very detrimental to society here in general.
Jen "Hot" is a really correct word to use in Germany. We males find girls or girls find other girls "Hot". Completely natural. Pls, ignore current "female trends"!
In third world countries you will see bubble societies because, mentalities are different in every social class unlike Germany all people are having almost same mentalities, for example; in the third world countries higher social classes can be a bit acceptable for gays and lesbians more than lower classes which can be dangerous on gays and lesbians, also women in higher classes has more freedom than lower classes. By the way am a big fan of you ❤🤗 keep it up
Hi, thank you so much for sharing your experience. I love your conversations. Me and my family will be moving to Munich starting from 27th May and I have 2 yrs old daughter. So, Im really looking for some guidance on kindergartens or schools in Germany. Do you have time for a video on this topic please? Thank you again.
Congrats on moving to Germany! 😊 We have planned a video on the German education system in the future. In the meantime you can take a look at our guide for insights: www.simplegermany.com/german-school-system/ Hope it helps!
Hey Jen would you be so kind to share the story about you becoming software developer? I was thinking about going the same way i need some guidance and advices where and how to start and i also want to move to Germany because my fiancé is there in Cologne :D thanks and kind Regards
Hey Smorior! Thanks for your request. A video where I tell a bit more about my story is coming out soon. I like your suggestion and will record a video just about my software journey in the near future 🙂. All the best of luck in your move to Germany! -J
As an afro Latina who is Guatemalan and Honduran. I feel where Jen is coming from. I was born in the US and can't wait to start my new life in Germany. America honestly isn't safe anymore.
@@simplegermany I really wish I was moving this year. I am getting my bachelors here in the US and studying to get my b2 german certificate while in college. My best case scenario for moving to Germany is spring of 2024. I will definitely utilize all of the videos and online books you both have available to make the transition as smooth as possible.
I liked the expression seasoned adult, he he. Southern European countries used to say that Germans did not work to live, but live to work. It's all a matter of perspective. I found the mention of social class interesting as I would not have guessed that point. Jen should hurry with Mallorca, since Mallorca itself wants to get rid of the drinking and party tourism.
I didn’t know you guys were married. That’s awesome. I’m bi and so is my husband and I’m terrified in America. More for trans people than myself when it comes to sexuality but there are other things to be scared of over here.
Hallo ladys you are doing well again about germany and what its about to be here.is it rude to ask for a video about guatemala from you both, and that in german ,would be nice to hear you both talking german over an entire video.have a nice day
@@simplegermany my wife is half german and she used to live in Germany 20 years ago with her parents. They usted to talk about something named “Sozialamt” that helped them economically. Does that still exist? We are planning on living in Germany with our toddler. Could we receive benefits?
You can benefit from Parental And Child Allowance (Elterngeld and Kindergeld). You can read more about that in our guides on family in Germany: www.simplegermany.com/family-in-germany/ 😊
Blessings for you both ✨🙌✨
Always be careful when trying to make out North European's social status! Think of them as rock stars: they might look like crab, and wear awful clothes, but are worth millions. In most of the world people's cars are pretty safe parameter for their wealth. Being Danish, I tell you: Never judge a Dane's social status on their car! Their couch (sofa) could very well have cost several times what their car did. I've got a pair of friends who's paid more for their 12 designer mugs (for daily use, mind you), than they did for the wreck of a car they drive in 🤣 Thank you for teaching me about my nice neighbour. Peace and love
Is your wife German? We are as a same sex couple going to move to Germany, but dont know how to get married there? As rules say 'one of us has to be German'
"...crime, how many Germans have really witnessed that" - perhaps not very many in your social group, but those who have to live in the worse (cheaper) parts of bigger cities, ask them about it...
So sad that Yvonne comes across as turning up her nose at Guatemala....At least Guatemala doesn't have Germany's history though. Perhaps that's where that disdain originates from....that type of nationalism.
Warum sollten sie? Von mir aus könnten sie sich noch viel länger über alles mögliche auslassen, abschweifen und sogar verzetteln. Die beiden machen das auf so eine charmante und positive Art, da kann man stundenlang zuhören.
