Hello. i just wana comment about what you said: "i hope it wasnt too gross for you". no it wasnt gross and I actually with that more women would talk about these things. because it just makes all women feel normal. we need to talk more about those issues and i wanted to thank you actually for doing this. it is great! and we need more honest videos like this :). you are lovely, and your family is gorgeous btw

Hi, I know this is an old video, but I felt like I should add something to the "don't be worried if you bleed alot" tip. I was told that after my first was born, but no one told me how to measure how much blood I was losing. IF YOU FILL MORE THAN ONE SANITARY NAPKIN AN HOUR, SEE A DOCTOR. I was filling 3 or 4 and thought it was normal. Turns out they left a piece of my placenta inside me and I was hemorrhaging for 6 weeks. I had no idea anything was wrong until I passed out for 2 hours and had to have an emergency procedure to save my life. Also, the blood clots should not be as big as your palm. If it is, save it and take it in to be checked. It might not be blood! Don't panic, but be smart.

Will nobody talk about the swelling in your nether regions after giving birth? THAT shocked me when I had my daughter because I'd never had anyone mention it and I never even though about it lol manoeuvring onto my tailbone to sit down was not fun at all and even with anti inflammatory tablets if you stood too long it would swell again lol

The fact that doctors have you birth on your back when it can literally break bones just because it’s easier for THEM to see is INSANE. gravity helps and the tailbone curves up so it is much better to give birth sitting on a stool upright or on hands and knees

Yes, weak pelvic floor! Why does no one talk about this?! I was fine post-partum, initially, but then when my menstrual cycle resumed (7 months post-partum) my bladder prolapsed! 😱 The shear horror and fear and pain! And having a doctor minimize it and say no biggie, it's mild...me freaking out, like it is a big deal, my bladder is falling through my vaginal wall! 😞😕 I then became pregnant once again shortly after and the problem resolved itself, but at 24 weeks it has come back due to constipation and straining. People need to talk about these things and be more open, prior to birth, not letting women discover all these scary things after birth; when you're already full of strange hormones, fatigue, anxiety, etc.

I love that you did this video. My husband and I will start trying for a baby next year so I’ve been watching a lot of these videos and no one talks about it. They say “yeah, it’s hard but it’s worth it to have a healthy baby”... well, of course. But I want to know what I can expect for me. That’s also important. Or they don’t show/talk about the scary/hard moments and make it look like it was some glamorous experience. I’m also so surprised reading through the comments that not knowing these things is so common. I would think your doctors would tell you when you’re pregnant/after delivery. That baffles me. But I so appreciate you doing this. I never would have known about not lying on your back. That’s the main way it’s depicted. So, thank you!!!

I'd like to add to your list, if I may, and if this would help someone to be prepared. 1. major thing that every doctor warns patients, PPD, if you start feeling lost, feeling weird, do tell them before getting discharged. Breastfeeding helps to get attached to your baby, but hormones may still make you crazy for few weeks (lucky it only lasts a few weeks to a month). 2. After delivery still feeling baby's kicks in the tummy, even though he/she is no longer there :), 3. Fear of #2 toilet action and fear of sex/orgasm (being prepared vs thinking it would hurt), 4. Having some consequences after the pregnancy; I ended up with gallstones.

I know this is an older video, but I feel that it is important to say something about the endless advice to do Kegels. Only do this if your doctor and/or physical therapist recommend them! I have suffered from pelvic pains, and my pt found out that my pelvic floor muscles are too tight. She told me not to do Kegels at all, as these might make the problem even worse! After giving birth, I have to give my body some rest, see how it all feels, and then check in with her for further evaluation. Kegels are not the be all and end all of pelvic floor exercises. In some cases it is more important to try and relax the muscles instead! Get a proper assessment done by a pelvic floor physical therapist, before accidentally making any problems worse!

My stomach looked as if I was never pragenent just gained wait. Both where born in laing position and nothing broke for me . My Brest swall to the double size after 1Week and where hard (verry painful) I was liking 24/7. When my son was 3Weeks old it stopped. For my second son nothing happend when ever it swall a bit he would drink and that's it. My stomach split too, for my first boy I did physio for my second I didnt do nothing and it all shrunk back. Non of my hair fell out.

I also wanted to give birth in knealing position but the nurse refused to allow it even though i didn't have an epidural and was able to move about, so I just laid on my back. I regret not doing it anyway. Something is definitely not right with my tailbone/pelvic area. 7 weeks PP and I have some things to add 1. Scar tissue from tearing. I knew I could tear, and I had first degree tearing, but I didn't know that scar tissue could build from that. I had to have mine removed because it hurt to wipe and then probably would hurt during sex. They clipped it and used silver nitrate to chemically cauterize it...was not pleasant! 2. Hemorrhoids! They come, go, and come again! Really bad after labor due to pushing hard. 3. How emotional you are due to hormones! 4. How weak you feel after due to your muscles being stretched out.

Heaven's, l am 70 now and l now know a lot more than l did when l was 20. The two things l hated was the pull on my uterus when baby suckled in breastfeeding. The second, was how to REALLY do this breastfeeding thing. I wanted to do it but my baby just, what l call "mucked around" but that had to cease i.e. breastfeeding, as my mental space wasn't right on account of everything l'd endured. It was thought my milk might turn sour. I still think about a lot of these things to this day. I was in such a state that l vowed l'd never have another baby. I made sure l didn't and so l only had the one great baby.

Okay, TMI alert. My first #2 took 40 mins! It was huge and scary also I had an episiotomy as baby was B2B and I was scared my stitches would burst, they didn't but I pushed as hard as I did in labour. Also no one really tells you what a commitment breastfeeding is. It took me 2 to 3 weeks to really get to grips with it and that was after some very sore nipples but i persevered and happy to report all is good 1 month on. Also how hot you are because your body is producing milk. I feel like a furnace mostly. Also cluster feeding was a huge and probably the biggest shock especially as I'm breastfeeding. Literally can be sitting for hrs swapping baby between breasts and it is exhausting, baby has what seems like constant growth spurts. However all of these are hugely paid off when they start interacting with you as a result of improved eye sight and their personalities develop, just magical. Also nothing is permanent so know the challenging parts are not forever but savour the good. Trust your instincts and baby is very smart, they learn very quickly. The world is a shock to them, new smells, experiences so they're adapting just like you.

I’ve just had my first baby and I gave birth on my back I was so scared about giving birth in general I was told I was going to have an epidural I was induced cos I had obstetric cholestasis they didn’t end up giving me the epidural cos it was too late I survived on gas and air and the labour wasn’t as painful as I thought it was gonna be labour pains were actually very bearable the most painful part was his head coming out but I’m not sure I would have survived on all for cos being on my back helped me push harder but I guess everyone is different. I also got a stomach infection after giving birth so going toilet was not a problem for me at all 😂 in fact I did not get off the toilet for 7 days and said to my partner I’d rather give birth again than go through that lol

(Yoni is Sanskrit for your womb, it also means sacred temple). It also helps with building your muscles inside. It takes a lot of the fear out of childbirth. You become more in touch with what is best for your yoni and it's a beautiful way to build a positive relationship with this wonderful part of female anatomy. Love the skin you are in

I'm not pregnant, I've had 6 miscarriages. I don't think I will ever get pregnant and carry to full term. But reading the comments I'm so so so sorry ladies this sounds awful!!

Thank you for sharing these 👍 I gave birth 3 weeks ago and I've since been noticing alot of tenderness and like a dull feeling at the bottom of my tailbone esp when I sit down or get up, makes me wonder if I damaged mine while delivering as I was laying completely flat at that point

I swear I watched this before giving birth, at least twice. And I just now understand the words at 3 weeks post-partum. Its truly a “go through it, then you’ll get it” experience. Wow. Thank you Emily, I feel more secure now. ❤️

I had periurethral tear (tear where you pee) so peeing hurt more than pooping. I was taking stool softeners so that helped it fall out lol but peeing burned and still sometimes burns almost 5 weeks pp. No one told me you can tear up and not just down.

1st pregnancy 3 weeks postpartum and what i thought was gonna be the hardest part (labor) was actually the easiest for me. I'm still taking stool softners and it still burns a bit when I pee and the first time seeing the blood clots is scary! This was all new to me and I thought all would be back to normal after giving birth, oh how wrong was I 😣

Berenice Trejo how long did it take for your stitches to heal and to be able to pee with no burn?
@ToddlovesCopper
@ToddlovesCopper 6 лет назад
Totally agree, I prepared for l&d, but didn't think about post partum except that the baby would be there. How about if you need stitches there's a chance (and nothing can be done to prevent it) that you will overheal. I just had surgery for it and it has been awful. Our baby's worth it, but it's been rough

Omg I loved the fact that you spoke about the hair loss. I had my baby 3 months ago and I'm starting to notice hair loss. I was becoming a bit depressed but after u said this I'm doing my research and I feel so much better. I CANT WAIT TILL IT GETS BACK TO NORMAL!! 😓

Did you do any exercise to strengthen your upper body before birthing your second 2? I don't think I could hold myself up for that period of time.

Incase anyone doesn't know, you can take tramadol and ibuprofen if you have really bad after pains... And STILL breastfeed. It's just the opiates like Co codamol and codeine you can't ☺️

I know this is an old video, but it’s so real! I’m lucky to have had an amazing prenatal nurse who went over many of the things mentioned in the video.. still there’s always something we won’t know about until it happens. One of the things I wish I had known is how painful your first bathroom trips will be!

I would have like for someone to tell me before hand that your baby might cry a lot, for no apparent reason, and nothing can confort him. I knew obviously that babies cry... but didnt know it to that extent, and that cries can be exhausting and really difficult to handle, even more with the hormones changes, lack of sleep and physical recovery

I just delivered my 7th baby. The leaking bladder is something that o had forgotten about and thus time it's worse. Not sure if it's because I had to have a catheter this time but my goodness😶. I can't leave my house. Kegal is becoming my best friend.

Emily, that was really informative. My children are 16 and 12, both of which were born with me on my back, I was in so much pain with my tail bone during labour and birth with my second born. I am so with you, with the toilet thing - ouch! Omg I was so scared to pee and the hospital said I couldn't go home until I'd had a poo, not that they physically check, so I told them I had. I often think being in the comfort and privacy of your own bathroom at home helps 😂 sorry tmi. xx

No one told me that 3 weeks later it will hurt to walk. My pelvic floor would be in so much pain if I got up wrong and the only way I could relive it was to squat! My thighs were NOT prepared for that!
