FOR ANYONE WATCHING THIS IN 2023: Please forgive this audio and lack of visual examples. I have since worked on my filming and edits. I have also recreated this video in a much more digestible video so go check that out you friendly scumbag.
My bane has been thin milk and TIL that perhaps expanding with more air wasn't actually helping as you suggest that aggressive aeration could cause issues. Would have loved to see an example of what that looks like, because I've been truly stumped with inconsistent results whenever my milk is thin. Granted I suspect milk age and how much fat content is present (I vigorously shake my milk, I swear!) tends to be my biggest enemy each time.
No disrespect to others uploading how to do latte arts (wanting to share their knowledge with others) but Emilee is by far - hands down - one of the best "teachers" on how to do latte arts. She takes the time to explain the concepts, techniques and visually show in detail what is needed to be accomplished to be a success. Thank you so much for sharing.
For real, I see 500 videos on “how to do latte art” but it’s just a video of them pouring. Although they’re good, they can’t really explain why they’re good.
it took me 2 years to understand these things, if you watch and practice everything in this video, it will save you at least 1 year to learn it yourself. Very nice video!
@@fe-rose6344 it shouldnt take more than the length of the video for you to understand when someone explained it to you. 2 years ago this video wasnt even published yet so why don't you use your brain to think before typing? 🤣 🤣
I work at Starbucks and I know how many baristas say it’s not “real” coffee but I love watching these types of videos to strengthen my barista skills and make a better cup of coffee! Hopefully by the end of the year I can achieve decent-ish latte art!!!
We all start somewhere. Starbucks is great for learning many skills associated with being a barista! I myself started in Costa coffee and now work as head barista in an independent speciality coffee shop. Happy coffee journey
@@adaz240 I actually completed my goal! Today I made the tulip shap! It wasn’t like the one on the video but the flower part look like the realistic shape but I’m very proud that I achieved my goal!!!
Okay, legit, this plus the three styles heart video made something click in my brain and I've suddenly went from hearts that usually failed to two and three stack tulips after a day of practice. Damn good advice and super clear and concise to follow! Who knew that swirling your espresso before pouring could have such an effect?
Can’t believe it’s actually for free on a RU-vid. Thanks for your content, I actually did almost every single mistake that you explained in this vid. Looking forward into drawing a nice milky arts. Thank you!
Started in this latte art things from last year, always got failed result for almost 1 year. After watching just 2 videos (just TWO!) from you last night, for the first time I got decent result this morning. And that’s really made my day! I still need to practice and try to fix my method. Thank you so much Emilee! Thank You!!
This is so so so informative! I can’t wait to pour my next cup and see if I can improve it with these tips! I’ve been wondering for ages why the design might not appear and this just gave me so much insight into why. Thank you for sharing this!
I'm starting my training next week and I've been watching Barista training videos and tips to prepare myself for it. And your videos have really helped. 😌
This is insanely useful, i do not have consistent latte art and ive been trying to get better. Part of that if the equipment(im a sbux barista) but ive been looking for my flaws and this video has so far been the most useful! thanks!
I came here to say THANK YOU Emilee. I have been trying for years to improve my latte Art but always just find the usual tips. I produce some but it’s never progressed further. I watched your video yesterday and identified at least 2 mistakes I was doing and today I was stunned at the difference it made. So huge thank you Emilee I rarely ever comment on social media but I really had to. THANK YOU.
Always wanted a home machine with a steam wand, finally got one, and when I get the microfoam right (GAH!!!) looking forward to following these inspiring videos! Never knew it was this hard!
These were the details I was missing that not a lot of other baristas on RU-vid mention! Thank you so much from a new barista, I would get so frustrated why my designs were coming out abstract haha
Dr. Emily I just want to let you know you're one Café Legend, to me you're a Cafe Artist that has explained this tough subject with a precise Ph.D method. Thank you so much.
Really appreciate these videos. I just stumbled on to your channel a week ago. There are great tutorials out there that have helped me but you fill in critical missing details. It seems like every time I watch one of your videos I go, "Oh! That's what's causing this thing that's happening in my pours!" Many thanks, super helpful.
Sincerely appreciate that! I am also SO happy you find something of value here. It took years figuring everything out and if I can speed that up for you, I am blessed with my job.
love your energy! makes me want to practice "latte-art" even more. Thanks from the Netherlands. I will continue tomorrow because I am pretty dizzy on all that coffee today...
Took me so much time to finally find someone who explains everything in great and pretty scientific detail. So much makes sense now. You apologise for lack of visuals but I greatly prefer the explanation over most other videos that are like "do it like this" and then roll some video .. Please keep ranting in great and enthusiastic detail! Helps so much.
Emilee,i love you girl! We need to be more proud with people like you. Thank you for your tips. Make a lot of diference for us, even if you dont know about that. ❤
I’m on holidays at the moment so can’t try these things out - but just wait till I get home. I’ve tried for years to do coffee art but until Emilee I didn’t really understand what and why. I’ll get back with comments as soon as I progress. Thanks Emilee.
Tip three literally upgraded me 1000x from where I was. Could not figure out what I was doing wrong but turns out I was just filling my cup too much!! Thank you for the tip!!
I'm trying to learn latte art and this video really helps me to avoid things that I don't want to happen to my latte art, you're so kind enough to give us this lesson for free. Thank you so much! your explanation is very clear and easy to understand. You have a real talent for teaching!
1.5 years attempting to properly froth milk in a Rocket Appartamento and it comes out too thick. I've taken out some pointers from you Emily and I can't wait to implement them today! Thank you!
You teach this so well and everything you've explained tells me exactly what I'm doing wrong on my latte art. I've been having inconsistent pours though my milk has always been pretty good. It wasn't until I saw your demonstration and explanation that I was able to see all my mistakes. I purchased the 22 oz round spout pitcher and am excited for that to come in to try all and improve my skill. Thanks so much and it's definitely worth my sub.
This is very insightful. Would be cool to see some videos covering latte art with limited resources. At home we have a hand milk foamer (not steam) and instant coffee 😅 probably can't do much with that, but would be cool to see something that go on that direction for people that don't have money/space for something fancier
Whilst Emilee’s parents thought she was studying hard to become a lawyer, they didnt know she was hanging out in latte art speak-easys. Now she cant get off the milk crack designs. (excellent stuff Emilee)
Dude you're the only person I've seen mention mug vs bowl shape During covid we've been using only to go paper cups and generally you put lids on those and don't worry too much about the art cus of course the to-go folks wanna leave lol But we're still doing paper cups even for here service and most people don't want to waste a lid which is understandable it's taken me a while to adjust to having to pour into a more cylindrical shape and this video is so helpful Thank you so much
Thank you for the video! Truly good practical tips . I have picked up most of these throughout the year from experience and various videos and books , I have never seen one video that mentioned all of them together. Thanks. Looking forward to your next video. And yeah, maybe drop the “scum bag” thing 😅
The UK café company I work for hold a national "Barista of the Year" annual competition. This includes latte art as part of the testing. However, for two years now, they've changed the cup shape from a lovely bowl shape to a cylindrical mug shape which has made it very difficult to produce clean, high contrast latte art designs. Not only that, but they've changed many stores from traditional coffee machines to WMF automatic bean-to-cup machines - taking away then fun of making coffee for us baristas. Sad times. Although on a lighter note - they recently sent me to the London Coffee Festival for two days - Disneyland for baristas!
Thank you Emilee, I’ve been trying to find out why my latte art is not shaping the way I wanted to. It seems I have not incorporated enough air and it leads to assymetrical shaped heart.
I'd like tk thank you for taking your time doing this. I've been working as a barista and since then, I've been trying to improve my skills. I noticed all the mistakes you said but i had no idea how to come up with the solution. Now this is a light at the end of the tunnel. I have no words to express my gratitude.
Great content! Thanks for sharing. I noticed you have a Rancilio Sylvia machine. Being a single boiler machine, what steps do you take to make an extra delicious latte? I do the following: 1. Fill my ports filter with coffee and set aside. 2. Bring the steam temperature up, and then steam milk. 3. Run an empty brew cycle until brew temperature is in the right range. 4. Insert ports filter and get a shot of espresso. 5. Complete an amateur latte art pour with semi successful results. I should mention that I also have a PID installed on my machine, so I can see temperatures real time. Thoughts?
I'm pretty sure you want to make the espresso first and then steam your milk. As Emilee states in many videos, you don't want to let your milk sit too long before pouring. I suspect your foam is separating out from your milk while you're waiting for your espresso to finish.
