Football Manager is a deep game that I seem to learn something new about every time I play it. That’s probably a bit of an overexaggeration, but if you seek out new stuff in FM you can usually find it. There are hidden easter eggs and deep analytics that hide from most people that ever take to the glorious spreadsheets.
I decided to uncover these hidden tools, these hidden features that some people may not know about and bring them to light. I also love these types of videos and wanted to bring them to Football Manager. This is a video I would want to watch so we took the time to make it ourselves, hope you enjoy and I do hope there’s a hidden thing for everyone to enjoy.

One thing, among many, I love about FM is watching others play the game. You quickly realize how different the game can be played, and all the little details that others use seemlessly which you've never though of. It always elevates my own experience to find inspiration from others. And I had actually forgot about the youth intake overview, so thank you for that :)

Zealand sniping my screenshots! I got that son back in FM18 I think, and he was part of my Kettering side that won the PL and CL with only players from my youth intake. Almost lost my mind when I got a son, and then again when he was good enough to be a part of the team too!

Correction with the Son in the game comment -> Your manager have to be 34 or older. The chances per youth intake is 1/600 but for per newgen it is 1/10000. It is harder to get a son in newer FM's due to regens being locked in at the point of the youth preview (before that you could save the day before youth intake and reload until you get a son)

That penalty check box once cost my non-league team almost a million pounds in cup prize money. We were battling a Championship club and my free kick god scored two free kicks to make it 2-1 in extra time. In the 115th minute, we got a penalty and I realized to late that he was taking it. With literally 1 in penalty taking. He missed, they equalized in the 122nd and won the shootout.

Slight correction (faulty memory, had to look it up): I was in League 2 at the time and it was around 3 mill lost (it was FA Cup quarter finals).

I am still playing my Bristol City save from FM21, but is not there an option "Choose penalty taker" if you do not run the live simulation so fast? Cause you can always choose the proper player from your team to take the penalty. Plus it shows their mental focus right at that moment, so it is always better to check it once the VAR gave you the penalty.

Hertha Berlin in the 2nd Bundesliga actually set a record in their 1-0 loss in their opening game against Düsseldorf of the season. The coach Pal Dardai played three of his sons in that game.

I also had a son in FM20. I start a manager at age 50 so he popped up not too long into my game. Unfortunately, he was not one of the better players in the youth intake so he was never going to make a team vying for the Champions League.

Not only can you use the player comparison function to find similar players (though you can't do it for all players), but when you create a recruitment focus, at the bottom left you can tell it to find a "Replacement for " Player X and it will try to find a player who plays the same position and is similarly talented as the player you want to replace.

On my first ever FM save on my first ever FM game, FM20 mobile, the save bugged out and I ended up getting 4-7 sons every season being promoted to the youth team. It was hell. I could've fielded an entire team and bench from my sons. It got so bad I bought the in game editor and started editing their surnames so the immersion wasn't completely broken. I also thought this was normal.

About "faceinthegame", as far as I understand, researchers are also part of the pool - basically, anyone in the credits can be a faceinthegame. Also, they also always have the same favourite teams and, in earlier Football Manager games (up to FM09 IIRC), they'd get joke personalities with descriptions that had no impact in gameplay. And there can be multiple newgens for the same faceinthegame at the same time. Using the Transfers Screen to scout youth intakes is what I used to do up to FM21 to poach youngsters. Since Value was a single, always-known number (whereas nowadays it either depends on scouting knowledge or it's the Transfer Value set by the club), you could spot newgens with abnormally high Values and try to get them before they sign a professional contract. About players coming out as gay, AFAIK it was added in FM18. It happened to me there, a player coming out as gay the day after he made a mistake that made us lose a long unbeaten streak. To this day I think he was playing the "pity" card.

I had a Marc Vaughan who was Real Madrid's first choice goalkeeper for a decade in a save, always amused me when I saw his posts at the SI forums. As for 5 and 7, I've been using those as default ever since they were introduced, they could almost have been made for me.

Wow, I didn't realise the point about FM devs being in the game. Now I don't know if it's someone with the same name, or if it actually was one of the devs, but Alberto Luengo was my best defender, and ended up having a CA and PA of 199!

On my console FM23 there’s always an absolute insane wonder kid at United we appears to be a new gen called Julle Ilunga he’s an AF and can play both wings and he’s absolutely INSANE. I just recently learnt I think he’s a developer player.

I didn't know the position based player selection on the tactics screen was little-known. Pretty sure it was the first thing I clicked on when I first entered the tactics screen. Also, it's not an "i" or an eye. It's a person, which if you hover over, shows a preview of their player profile.

I feel like the feature where you can see a breakdown of performance relative to their positions is a highly useful yet EXTREMELY underdeveloped feature. I would love more in-depth stats than just goal contributions and average rating, and to be able to break the analysis down to player roles, not just positions. It would be a great way get visual feedback on player role suitability and would be super useful when tinkering with tactics. I'm no game developer, but surely this would be an easy feature to implement 🤷

You can see a lot of that when you click on the player's form (it shows what position they played in) but it only saves like the last 20 matches (no international) but the stats are only for each match.

Squad view -> add column -> chalkboard stats. Add a whole bunch of them. So much useful info in there. "Ooh this defender. makes loads of interceptions where this other guy does headers and tackles"

I've had 1 son in fm back in maybe 2014 or so. i saved it the day before and wrote a macro in macro scheduler with image recognition for the word son and had it continue passed the date and view the youth intake if no son , reload the save. Macro stopped after a ridiculous amount of time with a son in my team haha good times.

I use the 'find similar player' a bit when in Non-League. 9 times out of 10 it reccomends players like Haaland because they both have a high skill.

I loved this game back when it was Championship Manager, all the way up to CM 01/02. And while I do own FM22 I feel this game has become too much of a second job and not a fun waste of time.

I had a child on FM20 that was really good, i was in 1 club save on espanyol where i was trying to evertake barcelona, my son joined the fisrt team at around 10 sasons at the club. I stopted the save at 16 seasons and he was a regular starter playing from the left wing, i stoped playing after i surpassed barcelona in reputation and had more champions league wins than they had I just assumed that whenever it happened the player was going to be really good, i guess i was double lucky

The jokes when you are coaching a 10th division club, you go up all those divisions, reach the ucl final so your son misses the penalty at the 89th minute and they score 45 seconds later and you lose the game😂😂

I had two sons on FM19 30 seasons apart, its the only version I've had sons on. The first was a rubbish keeper but as I ended up being a top side and England manager nepotism managed to get him to win every competition available, he was also on pens and free kicks for England and played against the rubbish sides and got I think about 19 goals. My second son came later on at a different club, he was a rubbish midfielder, we were also a top team so by the time he was 17 he had won every club competition but he was never capped for England as I had left by then, he also didn't do much in his career as I moved to a new club in the lower leagues and then moved to the Welsh league and he would never sign for me.

I remember loading up FM once and being told in my emails that my Ipswich town side had been bought by a billionaire and had been given a 1 billion pound transfer budget..... i then realised the date when i saw at the bottom "April Fools" 😭

Yeah, that happens only when both the computer date and the savegame date are both April 1st. I heard something similar happens when both dates are your birthday, but can't confirm.

Many years ago one way to get a son was to keep a player all the way from your youth team or intake, i.e. a one club player,.to when he retires. I have no idea (or patience) to check if this is still true

I've been playing Football Manager since the rebranded in 2005 and I STILL haven't beem able to get a regen son 😢 and I mean, I've put some serious hours into it. I.e. in 2012 I had like 1500 of hours of game play on one save only simulating to get through international breaks. One thing I did notice though, and I mean in ALL the time I've played across all FMs it's only happened one time. Real players can get regen/newgen brothers through the academy. Tonny Trindade de Vilhena got a brother after like only 3 seasons somehow. He wasn't very good but it was still pretty cool. I wish it had of been a bigger name player though.

I find it annoying that I can offer loan players to certain nations, but not transfers. I have found a lot more success when trying to loan out youngsters, to actully add specific nations to the offer. F.x. I was playing as my local danish team, and was promoted to the top division. Had some youngsters to loan out, and the normal Offer to clubs gave me nothing, even at 0%. So I tried to offer the player specifically to Denmark, norway, Sweden and Iceland, and suddenly offers started coming in. It would be lovely if I could offer transfers out to clubs in specific nations to gather more interest.

I’ve had the son on my second ever save on the mobile version, so may be more common there. Also had my 6ft 5 Argentinian Centre back come out as gay. He went on to be Argentina and Juventus captain.

son in fm is not a myth, i had son in fm 19 in my lens save, he was a gk, and after maybe 6 7 years he was my first choice, and he actually was good...i remember he had 17 reflexes and one on ones, and reallly solid attributes ( ca maybe, and this is just my opinion, about 150-170 ). we won champions league together and then i sold him to tottenham for 60 million i think.best save of my life 😀😀
