So true, in standard form that awesome. The only improvement I’ve done that’s really made a huge defence was adding gearstick extension to make it more economic for myself. The standard seats are the most comfortable ones I have ever had and they are the first to fit the curve of my back. Love the standard narrow tyres, specially in New Zealand ones . I’m not changing the tyres, suspension, engine power etc
@NorthOz

I’m glad I’m not the only one. I completely agree. So you got a chassis extension? What brand/company did you go with? Roughly what was the cost if you don’t mind me asking. Thanks for the comment 👍

@@NorthOz whoops, I put gearstick extension and my super smart computer removed gas stick on Me without me noticing. No, my wheelbase is shorter than yours as I have a 78, I like the idea of being a walk-through to the back and just go to sleep.

Nice mate, only done 2000klms on my 78 but i love it standard to the point where I’m wondering if i even need a bullbar. Love just getting things as i need them and not thinking i need everything cause these trucks are good to go as they are with a bit of rust proofing

Great video, I have a 23 79 workmate also, I love it. Are you planning on installing central locking? Would love to see a video on that. The manual windows don’t bother me but no central locking is a pain, especially with a canopy on the back that is central locking capability.
@NorthOz
@NorthOz 3 месяца назад
Hi mate, I know what you mean. It makes sense to tie in the central locking to the canopy. I’m not planning on doing central locking on mine as I’m trying to limit the amount of wiring in the car. It definitely is not an expensive mod and from what I hear is pretty straight forward. Thanks for commenting on the video and watching 👍

@NorthOz

Most other vehicles I have owned have had a number for the weight loading. This doesn’t. Similar to most rain gutter vehicles like this, I think they just rely on common sense. I have seen blokes loading it up with hundreds of kgs of gear so I think it comes down to how brave you are

I'm sure you had a video commenting how you don't need a bullbar, yet you fit a cheap one....more damage than warranted with a hit?
@NorthOz
@NorthOz 3 месяца назад
Correct. I made a video commenting about most people not needing a bullbar. Later I go on to say that it is also a requirement of pushing through bush, housing winch units, mounting spot lights and protection from animal strikes when remote. This build satisfies those requirements. My patrol build also had a bullbar. My hilux and Prado did not. Different builds, different purposes

The perfect car doesn't exist yet, so it is a compromise what you need and what the car can offer you. Do you want the latest hifi car system? don't buy the 70. Do you want to tow 3.5T everyday all day? don't buy the 70. Do you want to cross a river? don't by a 70 ( and any other car). This car is what it is: a mule. It is silly to transform it in something else.
@NorthOz
@NorthOz 3 месяца назад
In some respects I agree. But why not make a few adjustments to make it suit someone’s needs? I don’t agree with spending unlimited amounts on this car but a few choice mods makes this very livable day to day 👍
@nicknick7052
@nicknick7052 3 месяца назад
@@NorthOz my 5th 70s is a 4.5L 4 months old. I swap the same car every 2/3 years and I use it for leisure. What I learned so far: rule N.1 the car MUST BE light! If so you don't need aftermarket suspensions, clutches, brakes, correctors, chips, etc. No whatever rooftop, use swags. Do you really need a 100Kg bullbar? winch only if you go solo (I have two). Canopy: why not a very good quality canvas? Clean nose: not too big lights, bars, etc. Second set of excellent tall tyres, you don't need to rise the car 2 inches, 3 inches, etc. The car is certified to cross 700mm of water; do you need a snorkel? Basically the question before any mods is always the same: Do I really need it? But if you keep the weight down, this car doesn't need anything special, trust me.
