@Ian Visser if its from some video game though, then that artist got paid for his work, and EA or the like footed the bill, thus no one loses any money and once again, anything under 30 seconds isn't technically long enough to be copywritten

The bolt action has way more barrel length and way more firepower then the semi auto and the reason you can make a bolt action semi is because a bolt actions power would break the semi auto mechanism into pieces after the second shot and would require an entirely new design to with stand just how much force bolt actions have

Yes! It makes me mad when I lose damage ticks for a silencer that should technically increase damage.
@Anvarynn
@Anvarynn 4 года назад
Battlefield 3 corrected this by in lore using subsonic ammo WITH the suppressor, reducing range. Originally it was going to reduce damage and a bunch of people were sick of it and complained and dice made the change above, and it's true: subsonic ammo does not have the effective range of supersonic ammo.

If the bad guy is 6 feet away, a shotgun does little to no damage. While it's not the most effective weapon over greater distances, it's still lethal in a mid-range distance... except in games.
@yveshku5583

It's always one of two things. Little range and maybe minimal damage outside of that, or stupidly long range considering that it is a shotgun.
@bryandedon7459
@bryandedon7459 4 года назад
It's to balance the game bc it is a game after all. If you gave every shotgun the range it has in real life then they'd be the most powerful guns in the game. Just look at modern warfare. Everybody used the 725 when the game came out and might still use but idk bc I quit playing it. The range was good and it was a 1 shot kill machine.
@RollingxBigshot

There is a video of someone wielding a M134 in their hands and shooting it. It's not impossible (they didn't move around because they have to be connected to the batteries and ammo which they weren't holding) but the recoil is manageable because the gun is so heavy most of the force is dispersed by the weight of the gun. It's still impractical but it's not recoil you have to worry about. The main problem is that ammo for the gun is normally in 1000 round boxes, which is about 10 seconds worth of ammo, and it would take the average person at least 90 seconds to reload

Sometimes they miss the point, and it's very cheesy, like fallout or as you mentioned deadrising and was nitpicking silly games, so I agree that the video is dumb, but Zombies doesnt automatically mean realism has to be thrown out the window, often they're used in tandem with real world elements, this can be used to really push hard into survival elements (find the right ammo, find functional parts, reload the gun without wasting ammo) it's been shown with regular survival games literally if you just added zombies the game wouldn't suddenly lose any of its merit (or its blunders) for weapon handling, Games realism level should also rely on its 'feel' than its setting, thus deadrising can get away with more than CoD, I mean I guess you could just say it's a game

Exactly. You are able to to a maximum power draw, while if target is attacking you you are doing kind -of fast draw which is weaker and less precise. so imho that one makes total sense. 3:39 "a minute accuracy increase seems a little off" no, that's actually right, not with a plastic bottle obviously, but with a real suppressor the extra 6 inches helps mitigate recoil by virtue of adding weight to the end of your rifle and improve accuracy by extending the amount gas build-up in the barrel. not to mention real suppressors have baffles that allows the gas to build up more but not exit the barrel providing a more stable flight without the gas hindering the bullets path, like it could with no suppressor. when a gun is fired you hear 3 sounds very fast, first is the blowback of the gas exiting out of the ejector port with the bullets casing, second is the bullet breaking the sound barrier, the third is the gas breaking the sound barrier. suppressors only stop the 3rd sound, you cant stop the bullet and unless your using a single shot/bolt action/lever action weapon you can't stop the blow-back. you can use sub-sonic ammo, but it's still going to be loud enough to sound like a firework. so there you go.

1:41 In modern small arms systems when your firearm is empty, the bolt is held back by a small part called a bolt catch. This catch works in unison with the magazine follower, as soon as your last round is in the chamber, and the magazine is empty, the magazine follower pushes up on your bolt catch hence locking your bolt open and not requiring you to "cock" your weapon, but instead push a button sending your bolt flying forward and immediately chambering a round.
@mtoy1337
@mtoy1337 4 года назад
uhm, no. If your last round is in the chamber then the follower was too low to snag the bolt catch. Once the magazine is empty and rounds are expended (action cycled after last shot has been fired and the bolt has cycled), a mag follower would keep a bolt open. And it doesn't matter if you re-rack or hit a bolt catch release - once tension on the bolt catch is released it falls away and allows the bolt to move freely to chamber a new round. This, of course, is completely relative to the weapons platform, but I'm assuming you're talking about an AR15 or similar.

Some weapons do require you to cock them when empty, particularly weapons where the bolt doesn't hold open on empty. Other rifles, like the AR platform, only need to be cocked once, and that's from a closed bolt position. After that, whether doing a tactical reload (reload before empty) or reloading on empty, you don't have to cock the weapon. The difference with the AR platform between a tactical and empty reload is on an empty reload, you slap the paddle (bolt lock) or press your B.A.D. lever (if installed). This allows the bolt that's held back on empty to slam forward, chambering the first round off the mag. If you already have a round chambered, you just need to make sure you've fully seated the mag, and you're good to go. I have yet to handle/use an AK platform, but from what I understand, some, or perhaps most, don't hold open on empty, so you would need to cock it again. As for a tactical reload on an AK, I don't know enough yet to comment. Some handguns are weird, too, not allowing you to drop a mag until empty, while most will let you drop the mag before empty. The pistol I carry everyday, an Astra A-100, has this quirk on some models depending who you ask, and it seems to be more dependent on your magazine from what I can tell. Mine did this with a brand new mag, but after sitting there compressing the spring about a thousand times with a wooden dowel, the spring loosened up, and it would allow me to drop the mag when chambered and a full mag. Firearms are not magic boxes that spray bullets, but rather complex engineered machines, and each machine has its quirks. To apply a universal "this is how guns work" statement is typically what you hear from people who don't own, use, and maintain firearms. Just remember that the guns you've seen in gaming BARELY scratches the surface of what's offered in the real world. It's quite fascinating, and the more you explore the real world of shooting, the more you start to hate video games for portraying weapons so poorly.
@GhostHax0r
@GhostHax0r 4 года назад
From what I understand, AKs vary wildly, so it pretty much comes down to how lucky you are. Some have more AR platform functions, some have no bolt catch, some make a cutout so your safety latch is what catches the bolt, etc. Like I said, it's pretty much how lucky or unlucky you get, and I imagine if you *really* wanted your AK to catch on empty, you could do it, but you'd still have to use your other hand to release it regardless As a side note I thought of after I got post, the AKs I've fired don't have the cutout bold catch or anything. Gotta do it manually. In some videos I've seen it, but they were Romanian AKs I think? Where your get your AK is really important to how it functions and what features.

The case with the M1 Garand, particularly in games centered around the war, is not that it is physically impossible to reload without emptying the clip; rather it was doctrine to train troops to only reload after firing the weapon empty. The reason for this, which you missed in your description, is that the clip cannot be ejected when there's still ammunition in it. There is no way to do so, no magic button. The way you manually reload an M1 Garand is one cartridge at a time. It can be done, just like with the M1903 Springfield, Kar98k, Lee-Enfield and other weapons loaded with stripper clips. However, you don't get the ping. The reason soldiers and Marines were trained to fire until empty is because they were issued their ammunition preloaded in clips. It's not a likely scenario that a man on the ground is going to have the loose rounds needed to reload his rifle mid-clip. If he's done engaging the enemy, he will likely have an empty rifle anyway. If he doesn't, he clears his weapon by manually cycling it and brings the loose ammunition to the ranking officer (or keeps it for later).

Clip can be ejected when there it still have ammunition. The "magic" button is located on the left side of the Garand. Most if not all of the M1 Garand model has it and it is clearly visiable. That being said, it is unlikely for the solider on the battlefield to reload mid round because it takes more time to do so. I am not a historian and going to speak from per speculation. The BAR and Browning 1919 both used 30-06 so it is not entirely impossible that they would have loose rounds. I feel like the possibility is very low to be honest.

Tavi where are you getting your information from? It's objectively wrong. " rather it was doctrine to train troops to only reload after firing the weapon empty" can you site your source for this? Isn't the advantage drivers have over passengers more about how they can brace themselves with the steering wheel? @@alearnedman I'm not sure how big of a role the steering wheel plays but awake and aware passengers have a higher chance of survival compared to those who didn't pay attention or were asleep. There's so many things games get wrong about the Garand: #1 - The rear sight is not that big, it's actually significantly smaller. #2 - Even the games that do allow you to reload mid-clip would still get this wrong: You can't just pull back the operating-rod and have the clip eject; you'd also have to press the eject button on the left-hand side. And when you do eject a partially loaded clip to a full clip, it actually wouldn't go ping. #3 - War In The Pacific may be applauded for its realism of including the infamous Garand thumb, it's somewhat of a myth. Somewhat. If the bolt is pulled all the way back and is not protruding beyond the feeding lips, and you load in a full 8-round clip it's actually least likely to whack your thumb. The key is to apply downward pressure; as long as there's pressure, the operating-rod wouldn't--or at least shouldn't--smack forward; it's once you release the pressure would the operating rod actually move forward, but even if it doesn't you just smack it forward with the palm of your hand. The Garand thumb should only occur when: A) the bolt is protruding, B) you're reloading with less than a full 8-round clip, and C) you're closing the bolt on an empty chamber as this would require you to press down the magazine floor-plate with your thumb. And while it may be generally accepted knowledge when you are reloading the M1 to hold the operating-hand back with the knife of your hand, it's not really how troops were trained during the time. Having watched M1 training videos from the early to mid '40s, even from the Korean War, troops were actually trained to curl up their fingers and raise their elbows, and press down on the clip with a sort of thumbs-down gesture. They weren't really taught to worry about the Garand thumb.
@C4CHopeless
@C4CHopeless 4 года назад
To be fair about the rear sight, if it was represented accurately in game you wouldn't be able to see through it as games don't handle focal points well. The dev for h3vr discussed this issue to explain why some of his rear sight apertures were bigger than their real life counterparts. I agree spot-on with everything else though. And I don't know about you, bit even if I'm sure the bolt is completely locked back on an m1, I still have the rear of my palm near the charging handle as I'm not taking any chances.

If someone who learned from experience did the same they may not do quite as well as I said, experience also equals knowledge but may not be equal to I who has read the manual and done alot of research. TLDR person read driving manual front to back will most likely have more knowledge then someone who learned from scratch (after going through I figured out that the experienced person would have a higher "practicality" than reading as they know and commit to heart the functions as well but may not know some things the manual person does)

Another thing about the Garand. When reloading it you don't need to push the mechanism forward.

Having fired many M1s and owning an example made in 1944, yes, the design is such that it is not required but in practice, I find it's needed about 50% of the time. It was common practice in thew 1940s as well.

@Whatta Joke depends on the clip condition. Greek HXP seems to do it a lot; many of my clips of HXP have to be de-loaded, cleaned, and then re-loaded.

It’s honestly funny that the only game I know that does the whole “you can’t reload it until you empty the magazine” is black ops 3 when you can get the garand in a loot crate, and the game makes you walk on walls and use specialists abilities, the most unrealistic game tries to be the most realistic with the gun
@XenosSavior
@XenosSavior 4 года назад
Think you misunderstood, NOT being able to reload it mid clip is what's wrong. It is possible, but is difficult and wasn't commonly done. So Black Ops 3 remains unrealistic entirely lol.

J. Smith I’m aware, I was saying that they did the no reloading thing to the gun like most games do, not knowing that it’s false and they still did it wrong, I was just making the joke because it’s the only game I’ve seen it implied into a game and it’s the most futuristic

Along with the "double damage when sneak attacking with bows" feature in some games, it's also featured in skyrim and not only with bows, but with melee weapons such as daggers.

with melee weapons I can at least understand that the guy is not prepared for it and you can easily go for unarmored areas

Skyrim also has a whole section of a skill tree devoted to sneak attack damage. If I remember correctly, you get x15 dagger damage and then x3 bow damage.

Wait we’re gonna ignore that the M1 Garand reload when the clip is empty is also wrong?

Calling it a “clip” and not a “magazine” is also something games get wrong. 😬

@@RealBrizz Clips and magazines are different. Clips hold ammunition whereas magazines have a spring to ready the next round. Example: M1 Garand has a clip that you load into the magazine of the rifle. The magazine inside the rifle has the spring. Ak47 has a 30 round magazine as it had the sping in each one. Hope this helps

Tiny amounts of radiation. Drinking from a water fountain deals more rads than a nuke weapon.

Note: If you run out of ammo in a weapon that has a charging handle (M4/M16 series style weapons) you do not pull the charging handle back as the bolt will lock to the rear and once you replace the magazine, you only have to press the bolt release. This not only sends the bolt forward, but it also chambers a round, saving you a step of having to rack the weapon. If you swap magazines before you run out of ammo, then you do not need to do anything as the bolt should already be forward with a chambered round and you simply continue to fire. If you do pull the charging handle, you eject the chanbered round, wasting it. The only time you pull the charging handle is when a fresh magazine is entered into a weapon with no chambered round and the bolt is forward. That and for brass checks with a slight pull.
