people dont understand that 4c hair long looks different than 4c hair short its seems kinkier and "nappier" shorter lengths but once its gains significant length its totally different. the longer your hair the more the curls stretch and 4c curls/coils tends to become wavy but the actual feel( physical texture) is different than of looser curls
@NeziNappsakaNezi

Danielle Iman I've heard that before, that, 4c hair looks different when longer and healthier. You brought up some interesting points and you elaborated, clearly, too. Thanks, so much:)

Danielle Iman 4c hair does not hang and swing with length. 4c hair doesnt become 3c with length nor wavy nor lose coil. it does not blow in the wind or change personality with length. she might be in the 3a. 4c twists dont even twist like that. key fact 4c hair unlike all other types has a zero natural inherited water content. all hair types can be moisturized but the natural internal water content cannot change or be imitated, this makes 4c hair weightless at any length it will grow up not down and out nor hang but will pack in tight.

My foster sister has 4c hair. For me, a Dutch girl with straight hair it's really hard to do her hair because I'm not used to it. It's a struggle but with video's like this I have hope I can do a decent hairstyle for her someday. I'm going to practise 😊

I get so angry when I read negative comments under people videos, its sad that they would take the time and energy to put fourth time to down ones information.... WOW!!! I am addicted to watching hair videos and I love to comment on things that were helpful to encourage and compliment. its not easy to put these videos out for us with all the editing, that stuff takes time!!! I also have ran into videos that are nonsense but I just move on to the next why cant all do the same?!?!? if its not helpful to you there is no need for your negative comment IM JUST SAYING!!.... BY THE WAY I LOVE THIS VIDEO IT WAS VERY IMFORMATIVE

Monica Davis Hi Monica! I know, girl. Unfortunately, negative comments come with the territory. Everybody, is not going to agree nor approve of our videos. I have learned how to deal and respond with negative comments. As long as, I receive the love and support from people who receives my information valuable, that's all I care about. Honestly, I need the negative comments, because, in a strange way, they help me with building a better channel. I know, it sounds strange. I appreciate you taking the time out to commenting and watching my videos. Your comment and support makes me feel good. It reminds me to keep moving forward. Thanks, so much;)

Thank you for this video . Very informational & detailed. Lots of natural bloggers don't target a 4C hair audience at all & it not easy to keep up with them . This really helps because I'm also experiencing breakage, with not much growth in my 100% 4C hair & I don't know what to do with it most of the time.
@kapparhotau181
@kapparhotau181 9 лет назад
Your video is so helpful and enlightening. 4c is the most brittle and breaks the most. I have a mixture of 4c & 4a. I have 2 twist my hair every night or the back is a mess and I have to spray with leave in conditioner and mist oil and stretch out detangle with my fingers. I where twist outs becuz I just am not good with braiding or twisting and I can't go to the shop every month. Twist outs are the easiest when I don't go to the shop I just make sure I use a deep moisturizer conditioner, hair prorein, and moisture my hair while I'm styling. I then noticed a little growth

It is really great that Nezi mentioned the effect of afro and afro-puff styles on 4C hair. I suffered much breakage due to wearing this style too often. I tried to see if others had this experience and could not find any mentions. I knew this was happening to me though. Finally, someone was willing to point this out. Thanks!

I can relate to the first tip. I flat iron my hair once a year and last November when my hair started to revert back, I told myself I would trim it before washing. When I looked into the mirror and saw that "see through" at the ends, that trim turned into over 5 inches of hair cut off. My hair is SO much better now. :)
@NeziNappsakaNezi
@NeziNappsakaNezi 10 лет назад
Dang!!! Over 5 inches?!!! Yep! That was a cut vs. a trim, but, it sounds like it was much needed. Shoot! Before you know it, your hair will be back, faster, thicker and longer. That's how I got started. See through hair, will stagnate and never be healthy or grow. Go for you! Now, let your journey begin:)

Thanks so much for the tips....I did the same thing with my hair....it was so horrible with the lopsided thick at the roots and thin half way to the ends. Its my first time being in winter with my natural hair and I've been struggling to keep it alive. Your moisture routine is something i'd definitely try
@ciciniya
@ciciniya 9 лет назад
This was very helpful. I've been struggling with my daughter's hair. She is 10 years old. And she has type 4C hair. It does not have a curl pattern, but it is course and hard to manage at times. I was blowing it out at every wash just to manage it. That's what I believe is making her hair pop. I used heat protectors always. I wash it every 2-3 weeks so heat is not being used often. I just couldn't figure out why it stopped growing. When she was 2-7 her hair was long and strong and thick. Now it's popping out of control. I'm trying to get it back on track. I'm going to try this method with her hair.

@NeziNappsakaNezi
@NeziNappsakaNezi 10 лет назад
Hi AJoan! Girl! I thought, that hair was the kinkiest in the world. It's hard to believe, that, there is hair kinkier, than, that, but, then again, nawl. I knew, this one lady and her starter dread locs, locked up, really quick; like 2-3 months or so. I'm happy, you all told me, what that hair was, though. In the end, these ten tips still worked. Yeah! I learned the hard way, about, not combing my hair, while dry. Breakage! Thanks, for comment and compliment:)

I hate categorizing peoples hair because it's inaccurate. When our hair is short, its kinkier but as it gets longer it gets heavier which loosen's the curly pattern. My hair is exactyly like hers and it can encompass all the hair types...A B C D E F...lol.

Hi Sanya and you are, so welcome. I'm happy, some of my tips will help you. It took me a long time to figure out, some of my tips. Like, right now? My hair is in a big massive, blow out, afro. There is no way, I will be able to comb through it, in this state. It will break! So, off to the shampoo and conditioner bowl. I used to try to comb through it, back in the day and all I heard was, snap, crackle and pop. Now, I know, better. Thank you, for letting me know, that, you enjoyed this video. I have the same hair as you Nezi! You were reading my mind lol. I used to put the Satin cap on without doing my hair up. I did my hair wet and keep the 4C hair together and it worked like a charm. I slack a bit by not doing anything, we just moved. The products I use is Shea Moisture line of Hibiscus and Coconut Milk. I usually do wash n go's and when I do it always shrinks extra in the back and when I leave it out for the day products dry out and it look frizzy. I kept drenching with more products think it just was stubborn hair but you just opened my eyes about 4C hair. Wow, and the damage is back there all the time. New subbie and I can't wait for my hair in the middle and back grow!!!

I am a new subscriber and fairly new natural girl. How often do you twist your hair? I'm not sure if this is something that I need to do nightly, or if I need to twist my hair once a week. Love your look. You and your hair are beautiful. Thanks for the tips!
@NeziNappsakaNezi
@NeziNappsakaNezi 8 лет назад
+tiwan carr Hi, tiwan! I'm a lazy natural and I am not a fan of combing or retwisting my hair on a regular basis. I used to twist my hair, every, 4 to 5 weeks. I keep my french braids in my hair for a long time, too, which is not a good thing. My hair starts to lock up, if I leave my braids in too long. That causes a long detangling session (1 hr and a half) and it's not fun. I'm going to try and retwist and rebraid my hair, every 2 to 3 weeks, this year. It's all about a preference. Some people retwist every night, every week or once per month. It's up to you to make that decision, according to your hair wants and needs. You'll learn, more and more, as your hair grows.

Your tips are great and your reasoning is spot on!! 4c hair must be treated like a piece of silk lol. That said, it kinda sucks that we can't enjoy our hair like other naturals. How do you style your hair, then, if you don't wear those styles?
@NeziNappsakaNezi
@NeziNappsakaNezi 10 лет назад
Thanks, Maya! Honestly, I don't style my hair. The way you saw it in this video, is usually, how I wear it. I don't like dealing with my hair, too much, when it's in this state. Which is, why, it's in such good condition. I am going to start doing some heated styling, such as, roller sets and blow drying. That way, I won't be frustrated, as much.

I can relate so well with you sister.. Before cutting my perm completely out of my head I began researching natural hair care since I had basically dived literally head 1st into this type of lifestyle. I was still combing my hair in its dry state and applying grease --which to this day is a no no in my hair care regimen. I found out about finger detangling, coconut oil, hair butters, baggying I began misting my hair with water and it started growing like a revived plant. I found out that having a routine regimen instead of just looking for a hairstyle played a key factor in helping me grow thicker, healthier 4c hair than when I was permed. Wearing my hair in an afro for longer than a few hours is enough to make my kinks draw up and dry out. I live in scarves because it keeps my hair clean and holds in more moisture than wearing it out. I also am known to rock twists and braids but like you I don't prefer to go to twist outs afterwards as it is a cute style but only last so long before my hair is back dry and the twist out has formed single strand knots.
@NeziNappsakaNezi

Josyn Keith We do have something in common. We both just went in, feet first. lol As you say, though, learning what to do with our hair, makes a world of difference. I guess we had to go through trials and tribulations to get to where we are, today. Your hair sounds very juicy, moisturized and safe. Having dry, tangling hair causes breakage. Once we realized, that certain products and styles do not work for us, we knew to stay away from them. We stood by things that worked for hair. Everybody loves twist outs and braid outs, everyday, but, my hair doesn't.

Sorry did not mean anything bad. The 4C hair it may be working on May be a blend like yours. I looked at your picture on the video before it began and got excited because your "4C" hair looked so great...but then realized that it was only the small area in the back. I have tried tips you gave before. My entire head is 4C and dry...but I did find someone on RU-vid with similar head of hair. And it is good that people are benefitting...often our hair is a blend and spectrum.

I hear ya, sista hair twin!!!! :) in fact I do most of the tips you do. Only difference is I love my daily wngs, so I braid/twist my hair up at night, but the length of your hair makes those twists look good, I may do those regularly once I'm at that length. :)

BklynBabe Thanks, for your lovely compliment. Sista hair twin? lol Too funny! I never tried a wng. When my afro was teeny, I would shampoo and condition it and pick it back into a fro. Back then, (2002) I didn't know anything about a wgn. I wouldn't dare do it, now. No need to tangle my hair with that method. I have enough tangles.
@anitaslim1

That's not 4c hair in the back I have 4c hair. You look to have 4a hair. What you are probably dealing with is a dry patch. I have 4c hair but in the back of my head my hair seems to be 6d. LOL it's super dry and hard to moisturize. I don't know if it's scab hair from old relaxer burns or a old cow lick but it's extremely fragile. It tangels easily and when I try to untangle it I have a string or two to pull out from the roots. That's not shedding. I can feel the hairs pull out. When I had a relaxer that dry patch would break almost down to the skin. Said all that to say I think we're dealing with something similar.

Yeah I watched "Can you see my 4c hair? also I watched "My 4c video response/My thoughts and conclusion" Both after I saw this one. Sorry so slow. I'm a recent subbie. You have beautiful hair whatever it is. It's apparent you take very good care of it. I've only been natural since Feb 9th I think that was the date. I actually went natural Jan. 21st 2013 then texturized June 21st cause I was in shock with my 4c/g hair. Must have thought I was gone fool somebody. LOL! Anyway I'm here now to stay.I only have about 3 inches stretched to work with so it's afro's and one big puff for me. I'm gonna start making video's when I can get a better camera. I'd like to document my natural journey on yt. Oh I love you videos they are funny and informative.

Okay! Thanks, for watching all of those videos. I do take, good care of my hair. Now, I need to work on my body, but, that's another story. lol Yeah, seeing your natural hair for the first time, can be a shock. Learning, how to deal with it, can be a shock. Combing it can be a shock. Natural hair is shocking, for some newbies, but, eventually, it gets easier. 3 inches of natural hair is a nice amount. You can do some things with it. When you get setup for YT videos, make sure you let me know, so I can sub. I need to see your 4c hair and how, you are going to take care of it. I would love to follow your journey. If you're 4C , I'm also 5D! R u SURE you're 4C?! You have SO MUCH bounce, spring, waves, & curls for a 4C gal. Plus your "kitchen" is all smooth and laid down. And if your hair type breaks a lot, I'm TERRIFIED @ how my MUCH, MUCH, MUCH nappier hair will react when/ if I BC! I'm on a 4.5 month transition & times R tough. I'd KILL 4 your hair type. Lol. :-)

I am laughing at you. lol What is 5D hair? Everybody, is saying the same thing, about, my hair. The four c hair is in the back. So, today, I'm going to do some filming, of my hair and show it, to you guys. I'm going to section it, so that, you all can see it. Then, tell me if you see the 4c hair. Hopefully, I should have the video, posted, by tomorrow. So, stay tuned and let me know, what you think:) Oh, one more thing, my hair was blow dried and flat ironed, back in October and November. It's not as kinky, as can be. Now, you and your transitioning. That's alot of new hair, you have. Why are you holding on to the old hair? Having two types of hair can be challenging. You have enough hair, now. Come on over to the other side, Caroline. (Poltergiest Movie saying) Okay, I'm kidding. lol

Thanks for the encouragement, but I'm SO SCARED! Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know it's been a long time, but I'm so afraid I'll regret my decision, and that My hair will take forever to get to a more manageable length. Due to a bad perm as a child (9), my blown out bra strap length hair quickly broke off to a teeny-weeny, 1-2 inch afro, that DID NOT GROW until I was 23! My teens were HELL! However, I give myself until mid April, when I plan to do the BC. I hope that I follow through this time. This is my 3rd serious effort. Wish me luck, and I'll let you know when I'm officially "Happy & Nappy". Thanks again.

Thanks again for the encouragement, and I hope you're right, and I'll be looking to your site especially for advice and direction. Okay, okay, maybe you do have some 4c(ish) hair. But it that's so, their simply MUST be a 5, a, b, c, & d grouping, because I've seen some videos on YT (4chairchick, NaturalMe4c, etc) and their hair looks like total sheeps wool, especially when wet! Even Joulzey's hair looks nappier/kinkier than yours. (disclaimer: all aforementioned ladies have beautiful hair that I long for.) You're right about your hair being mixed. It is gorgeous, and you probably have some 3c hair mixed in??? When I finally BC I'll know for sure and let you know. And if my hair comes out half as beautiful as yours, I'll be completely satisfied. :-) P.s. Thank you so much for responding to my comments and for being so very kind, supportive and sweet. My hair has muscles and a touch of, aggressiveness. It gives me hard time. You'll love your hair. Sometimes, it takes a moment to adjust, to your new look and hair texture, but, once you learn your hair, it will become, second nature. Especially, the first year. It's the hardest, then, you go through, the next phase. You'll be fine, though. I have a small channel and that's how, I'm able to reply to comments, which is cool. I beg to differ. I too have 4c hair and it is not at all "nappy". A lot of 4c women are not educated enough to know that 4c hair with all of it's kinks, bends, and twists in each strand OUR hair sebum can not reach the full length of every strand and therefor is left dried out. So we have to supplement our sebum with hair oils and butters. There are a majority of 4c women who like NeziNapps and myself who have learned the technique to obtaining soft manageable 4c hair. I have to assume that you must have a hard time managing your hair or have just been uneducated about this hair type altogether for you to pass such judgement. Keep watching natural hair care journeys from other 4c ladies and I am sure you could possibly learn a thing or two!! *toodles* ; )

At first I didn't think that I had anything in common with you since your hair is longer and I think that I have a lot more 4C hair than you do. But I learned a lot and will put your ideas into practice. Thank you I really appreciate your tips.

But what about the hair inside the twist? I find myself Re-twisting to insure I get all the hair moisturized.

Actually, the hair on the inside stays moisturized longer than the outside hair, because, it's tucked away from the air. It's the outside hair that dries out, faster.

Even though we have different hair types, I have some of the same problems you have. My hair is kinkier at the crown and much shorter than the rest from breakage, so this helps!! I just like watching you, your accent is so cute and you're so down to earth. Great video, thanks! :)

Hi Nezi, a while back I watched this video because my hair was barely growing. I have always done things like protein treatments and not combing or styling dry hair but nothing seemed to help. After watching the video I noticed that my twists were thick but got thinner as they got to the end so I took your advice at cut off about 2-3 inches of the thin parts. I was worried because I wanted to retain length. However, it's been about 2 months since I cut the ends and my hair has grown back longer than it was before the cut. Thank you so much for helping me realize that the thin, old ends were starving my new hair.

Hi Lauren and thanks, for letting me know that you've tried some of my tips. It makes me happy to know that I've helped someone. A lot of us are so worried about length, to where, we'd rather have long damaged hair, than to have, short healthy hair. Then, we wonder how come our hair is not growing nor improving. Having a fresh start of trimmed or cut ends is the key, to a great start to a healthy, hair journey. I'm also happy, that, you've seen length retention, but, you didn't tell me if you have seen thickness at the ends of your hair, since, you cut 2 to 3 inches off. I know, you do see it and I bet, your overall health of your hair looks and feel better since your cut. Thanks, Lauren. I appreciate you watching, commenting and supporting me. and keep up the good work:)

I have the same ne problem in the crown of my head. I've been natural 7 years but the crown is still my weakest area. So i gave to constantly cut my hair around the crown so it isn't so noticeable.

Thank you for the video. I think my hair is 4c and I big chopped in 2011, but my length is nowhere near yours. I've cut my hair several times due to heat damage, but I'm ready to see my hair grow. I will definitely use your regimen. I should've found you a year ago. :)

Hi! Well, people kept telling me, that I don't have 4c hair, but, my techniques works for any kinky hair type. Check out this video in your spare timeru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-y7w9I_03pG4.html I, understand, about the heat damage and being ready to grow my hair, long. It takes a mindset of saying, "Okay! It's time to get serious!" It took years, for my hair to get the way, I wanted it to be. I encourage you, to keep your eye on the goal and you will get there. I really appreciate your comment and compliment:) PS. I have over 170 videos and playlists, that, you might be interested in. Click on my username and you will see my whole world of RU-vidness! lol

You are a breath of fresh air. I loved this video and I totally agree with all 10 of your tips. I've been natural for almost 15 years and the hair typing system still confuses me. I categorize my hair as mostly 4c, but some folks would disagree. Oh well. I'm a new subbie to your page officially as of three minutes ago. Look forward to watching more from you!

Girl! I'm still confuse, about, that crazy system. People told me, I didn't have 4c hair in the back. I'm like, what? So, I know what you mean. In the end, my tips still worked, regardless. Who made that system, anyway? lol Thanks, for subbing. I appreciate, you:)
