Thank you so much for this informative video. I started reading the blog yesterday and had questions about swimming which I do the to give times a week for exercise. I sincerely appreciate the thorough effort and time you give to others.
I only wish you had made this video before I went to Greece for two weeks this summer. I did find a swim cap that worked, but this would have calmed me all the way down.
Thanks so much for this video ladies. I'm European got thick dry 4c hair, swimming 3x a week, I'm so grateful for these tips and will be wetting conditioning hair in a plait from now on, tried the turban style swim caps with like a shower cap inside still came out wet. Protection Is def the way forward. I've been fed up about wasting time coming home then doing a wash and go at home after as it adds an hour and half on my swim time, no diffuser at the pool obvs and didn't wanna cart all. My curly hair stuff with me but I'm gonna decant into smaller bottles and order one of those collapsible diffusers, see if I can do it at the pool and save some time. Appreciate the tips so much esp the almond oil bit aswell as I have soem in the bathroom and gonna do kinky curly knot today conditioner after and a gel. Also gonna bug the kinky curly come clean shampoo hopefully that gets the chlorine out. Prob Co wash on weds and shampoo Mon and Fri. Honestly this video answered all my questions. Sending love thanks for sharing for us curlies xxx❤
Ty for this. When I made a serious life decision to learn to swim as an adult is when my mindshift on my hair occurred. I was forced to embrace my coarse hair twa wash in go. But it was what I needed! Crazy thing even tho I was in chlorinated pool 3x week my hair was more healthier bc it was being washed more freq. ( like yall say, wash your hair!) I used swimmers wellness shampoo 1x week, plus gentler shampoo the other 2 days a week. Followed w a deep con and uncle funky. It works, I love my wash and go and now I know how to swim! Freedom!
OMG just about to start swiming as well and I was thinking my soul cap was gonna prevent water...but hey will need to wash it......i was thinking of signing up for twice a week, now im not sure anymore.....having to wash condition and style every time....will be a struggle.....
Congrats on your swim journey!!! 🏊🏾♀️ I love it so much opens so many doors. But for my personal experience swim caps did not prevent my hair from getting wet. I did everything. 1 swim cap. 2 swim caps. Shower cap then swim cap. If your going under water multiple times your hair is gonna get wet. Maybe not crown but 1/3 of head is. And I didn't want to chance leaving any chlorine in my hair. But embracing the wash n go was my life saver it got to the pt I was more concerned about learning to swim than my hair. But it turns out I can have both. Your mindset has to change a bit. Also I learned thru miracleswimming in FL. The best program. They address the adult who wants to learn but might have some fear. Check out Melon Dash owner operator and her book. Conquer you Fear of Water. Black girl can swim!!! We out here! All the best to you!!! You can definitely learn and you will!
Also just a thought- could you plan your lessons back to back days? Have your 1st swim lesson of the week then use a co-wash or a really mild shampoo. Try a style that slick back or a scarf for the day. Something that doesnt take a lot of time and manipulation. Then swim again next day except after this lesson do your full routine. I did lessons 2x a week then 1x week for me to practice solo. It was a lot of water time but so worth it.
My process when swimming in chlorinated pool: 1. Plait hair. 2. Wet hair. 3. Slather hair with conditioner. 4. Wear plastic conditioning cap. 5. Wear professional-grade swim cap over conditioning cap. 6. Thoroughly wash and condition hair after swimming. My process when swimming in a natural body of water (lake, lagoon, ocean, etc.) 1. Plait hair. 2. Thoroughly wash and condition hair after swimming. ❤
What??? I swam since I was 3, i am now 40+. Competitive swam as a kid through college and i now compete in triathlons. I also scuba dive. I swim 5x a week. I swim ocean and in pools. My hair is thick and down my back. YOU Guys are totally wrong. Always wear a cap, wet hair, add conditioner enter pool. Exit pool, rinse hair, shampoo only 1x a wk, add leave in conditioner, coconut oil and styling product. You can not shampoo your hair everyday. I am not sure about your swimming credentials. ALL Swimmers are required to wear swim caps when competiting.
@@MermaidSyrena I actually thought about that. I actually just started swimming this past September and I really enjoy it. I think imma just join US Masters Swim and see where it takes me.
@@MermaidSyrena yes, it should be. Most people in my Master swim group are training for competition, I am doing it for fitness. But it’s a lot of fun to do it in a group setting
