Chris, I can't thank you enough for your advice. I purchased your recommended products for hair trinity routine and you saved my hair's life. I'll use the redken volume shampoo/conditioner in the shower with the occasional dose of clarifying shampoo first for when a deep clean is needed. Then I'll spray the pureology leave in formula and gently brush through. Recently I bought the big blowout gel and I'll brush that in next right before blow drying. It just took it to the next level even more. I finish with only a little bit of the #7 bonding oil on the ends. I can tell that bottle will last me a long time. It is my choice to forego the blow dry brush or style because I work remote and there's no point if I'm not going anywhere much. I hardly ever use my straightener anymore. Plus I simply prefer my hair out of my face by using one of those phone cord hair ties or a claw clip. For anyone reading this, it may seem time consuming but it really isn't when your products are actually right for you. My brush now pretty much runs right through the hair and basic things don't waste time anymore. Also, I consider myself a minimalist and I don't like a ton of things on my counters. I love that each of your recommendations actually has a purpose. With that all summing up the happy ending, before I found your videos I was beyond discouraged. I had invested in the Aveda shampoos for a couple of years. While at first it helped with obvious dryness, overtime it would be a nightmare rinsing it out. I was very uncomfortable and I felt like it was permanently stuck to my head. Additionally I had a scary amount of hair shedding occurring. By getting rid of my Aveda stuff and adopting your suggestions, I was able to confidently schedule an appointment with my new stylist and take a much needed break from being blonde. The switch never would have been surprisingly good if not for you. I am exceptionally grateful. Thanks again.

Wow, I really don’t understand why it is working for everybody in the comments here. I got all the products Chris is recommending for fine hair, which was not easy because I had to get some products from the UK since it is not sold in Germany. And my hair looks so bad😢. I have never had problems with dry or frizzy hair and now my hair looks like a haystack. The only good thing is that I can easily wash my hair now every three days. I am so disappointed after I spent more than 100€ for all these products.

@@schnulliwutz8011 if you're trying to go more days without washing (which appears to be Chris's main goal) ... it seems you have achieved it. As for the "haystack" issue, it sounds like you tried the Redken pink shampoo. I've seen a lot of reviews saying it's drying. Seems ALL volumizing shampoos may be, I've seen reviews that say the same thing for other high end ones. Which is logical .... you need a strong cleanser to strip out all oil in your roots (and inevitably strip any that's managed to get on your mids and lows) because it weights your hair down and keeps it flat. You re-build the moisture back in with his technique - conditioner, gentle dry, leave in and oil. If your hair is straw like, it could be a lot of things ... do you really know your hair type? ---Are you using enough conditioner/leave-in?--- How are you drying your hair? Do you use a lot of heat? etc etc. Chris does say "find your hair soulmate shampoo" .... meaning what he recommends may NOT be the one. Redken pink is his fave, as he said in a diff video, because it's the best cleanser (aka oil-stripper). But maybe your hair type/issues don't warrant such a harsh product. Sucks to waste so much money, I completely agree.

My hair is fine and thin and it is frizzy so I have loads of volume. People think I have a lot of hair but it is just an illusion. I could go for a bit less frizz and volume. I live in SW FL and so far nothing I have tried will tame the frizz if the dew point rises above 60.

You might want to try Keratin smoothing. It’s the only thing that works for me and my fine hair, and I live in Indonesia with crazy humidity, similar to Florida.
@MercySunshine4
@MercySunshine4 Год назад
Avoiding glycerin in your hair products (not shampoo or conditioner since you rinse those out) might help. Glycerin starts picking up too much moisture in the air when dew point goes above 60-65 F. The hair frizzes up due to glycerin in products seeking the moisture in the air too actively. Sadly not a lot of hair styling products avoid glycerin.
@tammv2306
@tammv2306 Год назад
I feel you! People assume I have a lot of hair 😅 I don't. It's fine, brittle and looks like a birds nest when I wake up. Sometimes I almost have curls-yet not really. Usually it's just "messy" volume. I always wonder how people have such beautiful hair that falls & flows instead of "moves with your head like a straw hat".
@notahamsterr
@notahamsterr Год назад
I agree with @Drai423 about glycerin. When the dew point is higher, look for silicone products to lock your style in. Silicone got a bad reputation by tons of misinformation online. There are plenty of water soluble silicone hair products that work great. I’m in Texas, with fine wavy/curly hair and have the same challenge. You have to research and experiment with products. But there are a lot more out there now that can help, than ever before. The light Moroccan oil is my go to when I wanna lock out frizz. But it may not be enough for your hair. So experiment. Also, I would steer clear of Keratin treatments. Those can and will damage fine hair, and make it irreparable. This is because unfortunately, most stylists do not apply each step properly. To achieve a frizz free look requires a lot of work finding products that work with your hair and the season your hair is living in, and blow drying and round brushing to smooth. The Pantene pro-v commercials lied to consumers. Nobody wakes up looking like they just had a professional blowout done. It all requires dedication and work.

The silk bonnet has made such a difference to the hydration in the ends of my hair when I wake up on days 2 and 3. Sure the roots are oily, so I definitely need dry shampoo but the ends used to always be frizzy and lose the waves I’d produced so neatly with my flat iron on day one. What I usually do is: day 1 wear my hair completely down and wave it with heat, Day 2 wear it half up half down and use dry shampoo, day 3 wear it completely up in a pony or bun again with dry shampoo and sometimes hair spray to tame the baby hairs. It feels sooo good to wash it the following day and start day 1 again with clean roots. I’m hoping my scalp will start to get used to this new routine and I won’t get so oily but I guess it’s something us fine hair girls have to put up with. I get oily on my tzone of my face too and it’s helped with keeping my skin youthful and looking younger than 35 so it’s pros and cons to everything!

Chris, you are AMAZING!! My hair only looks great after I leave my stylist every month. I've been frustrated because I can't get my hair shiny, nor straight. I'm awful at using the flat iron, so I never do. I use a blow dryer that I'm barely sufficient at. So, needless to say, I was going back to my short hair really short, like when Halle Berry had short hair. I grew it, and now it's in the style that Lisa Rhinna used to wear for years. However, it has never looked good in the last two years until today. Chris, I discovered your videos yesterday and couldn't stop watching them, and they made a lot of sense to me, so I bought the products you suggested and got all of them between yesterday and today. I took every tip from how to wash and condition to how to pre-dry everything! I can't believe it. My hair is shiny, glowing, bouncy, and straight. I still have a bit of learning with the flat iron. My hair, first in my adult life could almost pass as someone who just stepped out of a salon. Thank you! I have never written a comment on RU-vid or pretty much anywhere unless to thank the staff that work at my dealership as they give amazing service every time for the past 8 years.I digress. Thank you! Chris, since I'm not good with the flat iron, should I try the Tyson Hair Straightening comb? Or whatever other brand straightening comb? I'm not using anything that you don't recommend. :). Once i tap my budget back up I'm going for the Harry Josh blow dryer:).

Pureology one is not available in my country… Apart from that I am using almost everything else you are suggesting (I have naturally blonde fine hair): - Olaplex 0 and 3 every 2-3 weeks since my hair is so much better at the moment - Redken Acid bonding shampoo and conditioner or Redken Volume injection shammpo+conditioner - KMS leave-in - Hair oil I am also sleeping with silk bonnet. I must say that condition of my hair has drastically improved in the last 4 months since I first found out your channel. Thank you for all your advice!!

Question about root lifters… spray on dry hair or wet hair? Also will it make me need to wash my hair sooner? I have started doing the trinity routine (& olaplex 3 on wash days) and have been amazed at how good/non greasy my hair looks day two. Literally shook. I can go 4-5 days before washing again now, adding in dry shampoo day 3 and a head band to disguise greasy roots day 4/5. My hair is so fine and prone to damage so I want to maintain this routine. Thanks Chris, you’re amazing!
@abbiereynolds2740

Root lifter goes on wet hair. It won’t make your hair greasy bc they don’t have oils in them. They’re usually alcohol-based. If you use too much it’ll make your roots feel kind of sticky. I can tell if I’ve used too much bc it takes much longer to get the spot dry.

This is great advice. One contention, though: I have fine hair and I get amazing body and volume when I let my hair air-dry. If I try to heat style it, it looks good initially, but falls flat within an hour. Air-drying can be the right choice for fine hair.

I had this issue with styling too until I started using a curling iron after drying. I wash my hair 2x a week, once on Sunday and once on Wednesday. I let it air dry on Sunday, and heat style it on Wednesday. The first half of the week I have my natural curls (which I'm very happy with, but get greasy after a couple days.) When I (safely) blow dry and curl my hair on Wednesday, I have fabulous hair through Sunday morning when it's time to wash again. Chris' tutorial on curling hair (along with using the right heat protectants) really helps!

So true. Fine hair is a lot more susceptible to breakage because of the diameter of each hair as well. I have fine hair and no issues with the light Moroccan oil. But I use it sparingly on my ends when needed. I noticed the Olaplex 7 would sometimes leave my ends feeling like straw. So I like to switch it up. Also, there are microfiber and silk lined shower caps that are nicer to the cuticle of the hair than terry cloth. Sally Beauty used to carry satin lined shower caps for those on a budget. I always look forward to your new content! Keep up the great work!

Too much protein. That's why it went like straw. How did you fix it? I used pureplex too many times and did the same thing and don't want to just chop the ends off. Washing it a load helped but still feels bad.
@notahamsterr
@notahamsterr Год назад
@@janinedear-barlow always counter protein overload with moisture. Make sure the products don’t have protein in them whatsoever. And don’t overwash the hair. That will make both your hair and your scalp far too dry and exacerbate it. If that doesn’t fix it, you have get a trim. When talking to your stylist, be realistic about the amount that needs to be trimmed off. That hair is irreparable. Sometimes, even protein treatments can’t repair parts of the hair that are too damaged.
@janinedear-barlow
@janinedear-barlow Год назад
@@notahamsterr yes I know. I meant any specific products. I don't wash more than once a week or it makes it greasy too quickly with dry ends. Starting level 3 hair so will ask the tutor when I see her as I've never had to deal with it on my hair before and want to reverse it if I can before having to cut it off. Most of the protein is off but still not right. I might end up getting k18 to see if that helps.
@notahamsterr
@notahamsterr Год назад
@@janinedear-barlow The moisture shampoo and conditioner I prefer are Paul Mitchell’s Lavender Mint collection. It has shea butter in it, but I haven’t had any issues with it weighing hair down. Your hair may be sensitive to protein. If that’s the case, try only using products with protein once a month. Trial and error is how you’ll find how much protein your hair can handle. I don’t think the K18 mask is going to be any different, besides price. It’s very expensive. And honestly, Olaplex is superior when you take into account ingredients. I’m not sure what your hair history is. Whether you have any color in your hair, bleach, texture treatments like perm or straightener. And I haven’t touched your hair. So it’s hard to diagnose over the internet. Unless you have a keratin smoothing treatment (and I never recommend those), protein isn’t something that can just come off hair. Your hair is made of protein. And that balance between protein and moisture, as well as the ph of your hair can be thrown off pretty easily. Especially if you have fine hair. Ask your hair stylist any questions of concern. They’re there to help educate you. And if they don’t, or can’t answer your questions, find another stylist.

@notahamsterr

Dry shampoo is key in maintaining volume on day 3+ of your hairstyle. Oils that your scalp produce are heavy and will weigh the hair down. And where you need that volume to start is there. The Pulp Riot Berlin dry shampoo is amazing for this. While not leaving a typical dry shampoo cast on the hair like some other brands.

Hi Chris, I purchased the trinity products for fine hair. I used them as instructed by watching your videos.. My hair got volume after blow drying it and even appeared to look thick. I also purchased the blow out cream you recommended for fine hair and applied it as instructed. Once my hair was dry I applied the hair oil to my ends (Oleplex). My hair did look good but my mids and ends felt very dry. I feel that maybe the leave in conditioner from pureology was too light and made my hair feel dry. The next time I washed my hair I used all the same products except the pureology leave in conditioner. Instead I used the Oleplex #6 and my hair felt softer and looked great but by day 2 my hair still felt great, did not feel oily, but it felt much thinner. What should I do? My hair is fine but its also curly. I alway blow dry it straight and I don't use a flat iron because I don't want to fry my hair or make it look too thin.

@UniversoColletivo Год назад
Hey, I’m a swimmer too. My routine is: before putting the cap I completely wet my hair and add a very light mixture of hair cream (cond or leave-in the cheap kind is ok). What this does is 1) saturate your hair with water which means less room to your hair strands absorve the chlorine), 2) the cream adds a lipid barrier serving as second defense against the water (since water and oil don’t mix). I also put a fabric cap first and then the rubber one since rubber can also damage the hair
