All that's needed to make cards work for EDH is to ensure that they target 'opponents' rather than these massive specific designs. JUST MAKE THE CARDS SCALE WITH HIGHER PLAYER COUNTS!

Re: Ulalek, the lore experts have clarified that it's not Ulamog and Kozilek's dead bodies smushed together (despite the name). Using Ugin's "hand in a pond" metaphor, it's apparently more like if they were holding hands, and so more of a unique brood member than a titan of its own

For normal speed Joey, set playback speed to 0.75

I think what also gets me about Nadu is that it's not just twice per turn, it's twice per creature per turn. And I think I'd have way fewer problems with that card if it wasn't per creature.

Iirc, Ulalek isn't actually the two of them combined in the way you're thinking. Remember, what we see of the Eldrazi are just the parts we can perceive, the hands dipping into the water from the blind eternities. Ulalek is like Ulamog and Kozilek holding hands.

I've got one for you... Warren Soul Trader. Why are you a wizard and not a warlock? Would synergize just that much more with the Most Wanted precon and plus sacrifice feels more like a warlock thing than a wizard thing.

Also, Omo is THE least fixing-dependent 2 color commander. You can cast her whether you have green OR blue, and assuming you used a land to do it, you then have access to WUBRG mana.

I think the Ulalek thing is that it's just the leftover scraps and pieces of the two guys trying its best to glue themselves back together using Zendikar's own mana, hence the 5 colors and being tiny.

Definitely with ya on let commander fend for itself. I jumped back in around Kaladesh (2016) where Kaladesh and Aether Revolt combined had 13 legendary creatures vs Outlaws of Thunder Junction has 43! And that's not counting the commander decks. One of my favorite decks is Karrthus, Tyrant of Jund from the Alara block... A block that only had 15 legends across three sets.

It was just a way to utilize resources set aside from a previous product to hopefully claim a bit of their development costs by re-skinning it in a way that explicitly targets commander players. BLUE, WHITE & RED were the planeswalker's spellbook products.

I think the issue with Twice Each Turn is more in regards to memory issues. Especially for Nadu, which gives it to all your creatures. Did you target that creature with two auras already this turn? Or was it just this one and the other one? And lord help you if you're running identical tokens. Personally I prefer "choose one that hasn't been chosen this turn" effects. Still allows multiple triggers without going crazy while also providing a variety of value options.

Ulalek note: apparently on the fold-out lore thingy, it's the fusion of two spawns of the titans that happened once because they entered from the blind eternities in the same place this one time. It explains the 2/5, but that name? I'll forever call it Eldritch Ukelele.

The thing that I hate about Omo is giving creatures everything counters. The land ability was already super cool and is pretty much what the deck is built around, why did it need to have that extra stuff on top of it? I swear most modern commander designs have enough ideas on them to make two simpler, more focused commander than one that does so much you can't keep up with it

You might be the first edh player I've met who has the opinion of not everything needs to be edh. It's really nice and refreshing tbh

The explanation for Ulalek’s comparable deficiencies in physical power can possibly be understood by the fact that is it from another dimension, and it was sent back to that dimension when it lost. Now it is reaching into our reality with whatever physical aspects it can and while the physical seems weak, its magical powers are still comparable

Honestly, as a person who has had an energy deck since 2016, i am not surprised there are multiple infinites in the precon. It is so easy now to go infinite with energy, especially now that the deck has card draw that also can make energy.

Ulalek supposedly is from some time long in the past on a forgotten plane when parts of Kozilek fused with Ulamog. Long before they were the massive powerful titans they are in "today's" lore.

I had to double check twice through out watching this, that I didn't have it set to an accelerated play speed. Wow Joey went fast on this one.

The Omo deck confuses me - mostly because there are only like 3 or 4 things that have payoffs for lands being every type and basically none (if I remember correctly) for creatures being every creature type - despite that being what Omo uniquely enables as the face commander. Also I feel like a better example of "why is this here" in the Omo deck is Chromatic Lantern, because do you really need a 3 cost artifact that makes lands universal color producers in a deck that is only 2 colors, has a bunch of landfall payoffs, and has a commander that allows you to do that to your lands while she is on the field for the same mana cost?

Okay, what, wow? I had to listen to this twice to follow that long, fast, energetic rant. All valid points, but it's like someone let the 12 year old kid out from inside Joey's poised exterior. Also, per the Energy precon: I suspect that WotC couldn't really get away with printing two separate precons of the same colors and theme in the same set, but they could for two back-to-back sets. Modern Horizons is a great place to release all those mechanics they'll never return to again, or for years (e.g., Energy, Splice with Arcane / Spiritcraft, Cumulative Upkeep, Snow, etc.). So this deck makes sense. Also, if you ever tried to build it, there *aren't* enough Energy cards to make a viable deck using Dr. Madison Li alone. The new precon and MH3 itself give you what you need to create the deck. The fact that there's also a Fabricate (servo / thopter) commander tucked in there is a nice nod to the set's mechanics also.

I feel like the extremely high, half-descent-into-insanity energy of this video mirrors the current climate of the magic community in general and the modern horizons 3 previews very well. We're all overstimulated from Magic; anything and everything has to be _fast_ to match the speed of WOTC

I think in Nadu's case the "only twice each turn" was *intended* to make it so that if an opponent tried to remove a creature in response to you targeting it, or if you target a creature with some form of protection when an opponent tried to remove it, you'd get both triggers, instead of opponents waiting until you try to cast an aura on a creature to then remove it without giving you additional value I also think that even if that was the intention, they went way too far with it

To me it is clear that the new jeskai energy cards were designed for the Fallout deck, at least a few. It's weird that they've released two decks that go to the same thing in two sets that are so close in time, and in the same colors. Something similar happens with deserts and the enchantment that comes in the Simic precon. Wizards designs a lot of cards that they, because they've paid for the artwork, have to print at some point. That's my problem with the energy deck.

4:31 I always had a problem with the mythic options, most (all but one) has an unsearchable basic land that burns you on one side and a bad card that i never want to see on the other. So I would always rather just play a basic and move on. The new uncommon ones are leaps and bounds more powerful, leading me to believe this was the original intent for MDFCs, but wizards was afraid to shove that many into standard without mild testing.

i agree with everything excepttt ulalek. The card is crazy powerful. And the draw back of eldrazi was its color limitation, which it no longer has. So all the classic good stuff cards now go into an eldrazi deck, with double triggers. but yes, it didnt need to be the meld of the two and just a random eldrazi and the meld being in the deck and continue colorless

We EDH players got battle for baulders gate which imho is the best commander set of all time and complained how underpowered everything was. The current state of the game is the company directly catering to us wanting more powerful cards.

Totally agreed about ulalek! Personally I consider building a deck around it and the mechanic - and yes it's important that it comes down somewhat early. But lore wise? Big punt.

Speed run Joey is a different take. Not the norm I want, but I am here for it.

The missed meld card ulamog + kozilek is the biggest lost opportunity of the year. Yes it would have meant putting ulamog and kozy in the deck, and probably with partner, hops it seem so neat for a precon having 2 commanders, what the chances.. if the didn't want to burn two mithycs in the main set, they could have just made two "small" titans, like kozilek reborn and ulamog reborn. Instead we ended with the really SMAL one (the effect is really strong, but it isn't linked in any way with kozy and ulamog, see brisela). What was the desing team thinking, really.... Disappointing. Also Kozilek command: kindered instant - ELDRAZI ELDRAZI confluence: Instant Wtf? The layoff at wizards didn't hit the right people i guess.

Agreed that Nadu shouldn't be the norm. A Pushed commander every now and then isn't bad, but if y'all packing more board wipes for voja and ward in general, nadu shouldn't be hard to deal with
