I wont disagree with you. The point of this video IS to point out the few things the other GH series cameras do better than the GH6 but honestly 90% of the the time the GH6 will be much better than any previous camera in that line. Its more to point out these older cameras are still very good despite their age.

Although I do consider two media slots of the same type boarderline essential for Pro work.

@@RhettThompsonFilm Why is that? Why can't they be different media? I mean sure, redundancy is sweet... but if you can add additional higher quality modes without redundancy... and still have redundancy for the quality you have decided is good enough by staying with the GH5... why wouldn't you? Yeah media costs are higher for the Type B cards, but that is the tradeoff for the additional quality. Once SSD recording is added we might see redundancy of the highest quality modes... on quite cheap SSD drives. Ask yourself... if Panasonic released an updated firmware for the G5 that let you connect an SSD and record the same higher modes as the GH6 would you never use it because it wasn't redundant?

@@jdavidmusic it just is a head scratcher. As I explained in the video the highest data rates are half reserved for the most important footage, and then the paradox of also not being able to dual record that super high end footage is weird. And yes CDexpress can be used for dual recording in most modes but I don’t have them and even if I did invest in some for the GH6 I surely wouldn’t have the same storage SD cards around so one or the other would run out first. It’s a realistic negative especially consider the price of the camera is actually just the start of your purchases

@@RhettThompsonFilm I do agree that it's awkward... but if they had went with dual Type B CFXpress then people would be upset about that. I think the compromise was a good one... Allowing people to use their existing SDCards for the quality they are currently using, but the ability to also record the almost 6k. Again... it's all about your current gear and your workflow/style. I have a BMPCC4k... these two cameras compliment each other so well. The GH6 gives me a set of tools, many I do not have on the 4k... And then there is so much synergy too... recording to SSD, same mount, all my vintage lenses and Sigma 18-35 are interchangeable, adding 120fps 4k, up to 300fps 1080, IBIS, almost 6k, timecode generation, a beautiful pairing. I wanted to go A7SIII... but now I have very similar capabilities but at $2200 and $1300... I have two amazing cameras for the same price as the Sony... and don't have to buy new glass. For me (ymmv) the issues you brought up are inconsequential. For you maybe they are not. But I do sense your disappointment with this release may be contributing to your coverage/content.

Idk 6k photo is much better than just recording a 6k video. Theres a lot of lag between recording and stopping recording compared to 6k photo. Of course these things the older cameras do "better" is overshadowed by the massive list of improvements of the GH6 but it thought it was still worth noting some of these smaller things the older cameras do and to just acknowledge these older cameras are still great!

But that 100 MP hand held feature looks cool, 4k 120 is that autofocus with sound? Still tempted. I noticed the GH6 is already on eBay at a discount, the OM-1 is on eBay for a premium and not available generally.

Unfortunately no. The sensor does get locked off when it’s turned off but it’s just held by the magnetic system and can still move with certain movements or vibrations

It really just depends. Some things the GH6 is clearly better at (in fact most things) but is it THAT much better? I want people to think of these cameras as equally valid options.

@@RhettThompsonFilm oh for sure!! I guess what is missing for me are features in the G9 which is definitely in the running here for another very high quality camera. Hopefully some updates or a G10? Regardless agree with you on all points man!

GH4 in "cine mode" set-up does an amazing job, I think the GH6 is a nice hop over the GH5(S/II) for those who need it. My main hesitence is that there are things this video mentioned (like 6K Photo mode) that are lacking which I see no reason why they should be. But I've decided what the camera DOES bring to the table outweights that and now just waiting on my pre-order to ship... cause everyone is still waiting for the camera unless you live in the UK.

@@EmberSkyMedia Oh it's a really nice step up! I like that it's a step up in a very functional way and it's a really awesome looking camera! I just wish it had a couple features that was in the G9 and S5. But I was under the assumption they weren't going to make a G10. But it certainly looks like they will mostly likely make a G10 or something along those lines.

@@AlpacoFilms I expect from everything I've heard hinted at a "G10" whatever it ends up being called that is Photo-centric is coming with some kind of improved non-DFD AF system. So a GH6 and G10 combo is likely the "best of both worlds" going forward which is why I'm going GH6 vs. OM-1 (it would be nice to have both but I think Panasonic will Crush the OM-1 in their next camera).

Let’s be honest they are all amazing cameras it’s just what’s in your budget and what particular features do you need. I really tried to be fair and give good info even without the camera in hand and obviously it’s better overall, but is it better enough for your money? Maybe maybe not maybe in a year or so. I would also seriously consider a GH5mkii! The GH6 is clearly amazing but those other cameras are still really solid!

I think much could and will be resolved with firmware but a grip is seeming unlikely. :(

From what I’ve seen it should just be in the normal menu.

I don’t own the camera but that’s what I’ve seen in reviews and as far as I know it the only thing you really need CF cards for are prores

A LOT of the things in this video could be resolved with firmware and I think the streaming process will be decent just not on the level of the GH5mkii until they update it.

​@@RhettThompsonFilm Yeah. Over the smartphone app would be ok for some occations. But the direct streaming from camera (over ANY access point would be so much nicer and much more "streamlined"). Especially with an unlimited data mobile router and fixed streaming settings (to a stream distributor server for example - So the settings don´t even have to be changed in camera ^^). Lets hope for a lot of future firmware updates.

Honestly I don’t think so. A few of the profiles have been updated and changed but in terms of features and little things like live cropping and things like that I don’t think so. If anything it just has more stuff like the inclusion of live view composite and the ability to shoot 4K 60 FPS and video at 10bit. Unless you really need some of the high resolutions or high frame rates of the GH6 man the GH5mkii

I need to make a video on this, but the GH5ii is a completely underrated camera and is probably just as good as the GH6 in many ways. If you need 4k60 10 bit, better af and a few other nice upgrades it’s amazing bang for the buck!

@@RhettThompsonFilm Yes on the the dial I have it on 4 where I have my 3 top custom setting set. Like on my GH5 I want to press the menu button and have the 3 appear and choose what ever I want. But I'll figure something out. The real problem that's making me grow old is how to a get 4K 120. I was under the impression the camera shoots 4K 120 10 bit 422. I can't get 4K 12o even in 420. Do I need a CF card to do that?

@@sutv6754 I think the CF express card is only used for ProRes so 4k120 should just be in the main menu items. I don’t have the camera but have you tried switching between MP4 and MOV

Honestly I think the GH5ii is huge bang for your buck. Most of the new features of the GH6 formuch less money they can go To lenses and lighting and things like that. I would check out the conversation that Griffin and I have on my channel and potentially look out for a future video on this topic!

For instance the Infinite recording and battery life. A 512gb CFexpress allows for 7 hours of 4k recording. I purchased the GH5M2 for the pd charging as I'd had to go through 4 battery swaps plus the switching out of SD cards for long event work. PD meant I still had a full battery after 7 hours, and maybe 1 bar with a none pd power bank.

Grip - Hardly used the one I have for the GH5 Locked off sensor - Plenty of youtube car channels use the GH5 Low light - The GH6 though noisier seem to maintain shadow details better Streaming - I purchased the GH5M2 specifically for as some clients require both filming and streaming Battery life I've already mentioned in my other post. What I would love is a GH6 with the BGH1 battery and ND in place of IBIS, something like the C70.

@@RhettThompsonFilm You can use as many batteries as you can, and a power bank as well. This is not a real shortcoming. The real shortcoming is what the machine shows in the end product. Everything else is just for convenience.

Same here man, probably watched every review there is on the camera, and lets be honest its a HUGE upgrade if you need it. I just wanted to point out the handful of things that are missing and show off how the older cameras are still good or even great!

Agree to disagree. The GH6 is selling very well, but of course the autofocus will always be a sore spot for Lumix until they find some solution for it. 8k is a gimmick for nearly every possible use case at this point and 6k is even too much for me at the moment.

@@RhettThompsonFilm I understand why you feel that way it's only natural for you, however I don't consider 8k to be a gimmick as there are already cameras on the market shooting 12k. 8k video would be excellent for wider lenses for landscape video work. However the Panasonic tried to create a MFT sensors with better Dynamic range only to still fall short in IQ compared to its full Frame counterpart the S5. The C70 has a DGO sensor, however because the C70 is APS-C it can be adapted to fullframe with the canon focal reducer to be used with EF mount lenses. The GH5S crop factor is 1.85 thanks to its larger sensor this allows you to get a crop of 1.2 when using the Metabones speedbooster XL making it an APS-H camera. The point I'm trying to make is the GH6 competes with and is beaten by many of its competition on specs for specs, if it had 8k it would have bought it over the edge and made it a clear winner in something over its competition.

@@clarke.inverary There is a distinct difference between APSC and Super-35. C70 is a Super-35 sensor not APSC. C70 succeeds not because it can equal a Full Frame FOV but because its Dynamic Range is fantastic and even outpaces full frame sensors. In your own example of using the C70...the C70 is strictly a 4K camera (it's literally only a 9.6 mp sensor) Same with Arri Alexa. It's not a Full Frame sensor it's a very Dynamic Super-35 sensor. Super-35 is still the standard in filmmaking. The Arri Alexa is a 3.4K and even the Alexa LF is only DCI 4K. I agree that 8K is fantastic for landscape video work and that it's not quite a gimmick. But it'll be a long time before it becomes a standard for filmmakers that shoot shows and films which is the primary aim of this camera. And regarding your point of IQ, all cameras that's been released in the last 5 years have fantastic IQ. I think now what matters more is getting a camera that complements your workflow or works in the grain of your productions workflow. The GH6 gets a lot right for the price. It works VERY well for a lot of productions. Within that price bracket even the Panasonic S5 doesn't beat the GH6. The S5 doesn't shoot ProRes internally so you would HAVE to pickup and external recorder. The S5 also has a record limit and I don't think it has TC. These are things that are in a lot of productions. The GH6 is a mini S1H. Heck, it's kind of a mini C70 with the added functionality of being able to take photos. It can even record 4 channels of audio rather than only 2 when you compare it against the C70 and S1H. You bring up great points for sure! I think what you're looking for is simply NOT in the GH6. I think the Canon R5C is more akin to what you're looking for. Which btw only has 14-stops of claimed DR (literally only 1 stop MORE than the GH6) at $2300 more.

I missed the part where 8 k is needed if there are no computer acreens to display it.. most people stil, use full hd screens.

What are you talking about. This video is factual and not even negative toward the GH6. Please watch and pay attention to the video before commenting it’s pretty clear you just saw the title and got mad. They are all great cameras!
