We all have "off" days! 🙃I hope today's video gives you the tools to help deal with them :) Thank you to Native for bringing us this video. My link bit.ly/nativedailyc3 and code DAILYC3 give 33% off the deodorants and 20% off the body wash and toothpaste. Thank you, Native! I would love to hear your tips for dealing with an "off" day in the comments down below. Thank you for watching! Love, Jennifer
When all else fails, attitude is everything. I remember on my graduation day a sudden and terrible rain storm occurred, while we were out on the football field to receive our diplomas. It was a summer storm. Everyone was caught unprepared and drenched. Caps and gowns soaked. Beautiful hairstyles ruined. The girls all ran to the restrooms to try and salvage their appearances, some crying. My mother took my hair down and tried to ring out my gown. Then she said, no one can take your attitude from you. You walk out there like this is the biggest moment of your life. Smile a grand smile. Remember you are loved and by whom. This always comes back to me in moments when I am not on my best game.
That sounds like fun to be honest! Dancing in the rain! Continue in the theme of the celebration of graduation - and make a great memory out of it! I agree, attitude is everything :)
Looking presentable is a form of politeness to those around us and a form of self care to let ourselves know we are worthy of some effort despite what is going on. These videos help me remember that way of thinking. Thank you 😊
@@beckiehubley5798 I've had to run to the store myself while in the middle of doing home repair or yard work, & I know I looked a mess. I don't expect other people to always look their best. But I don't think it's impolite to expect other people to have a little modesty. If "presentable" means not putting their thong underwear and camel toes on public display, I'm all for it.
I’m so glad you said that about the yoga pants and tunic. It seems like “covering up” is foreign to so many people. It looks so much better, not to mention elegant when you don’t show...everything....
I use my big oversized sweatshirts apres-gym. I would worry about a shawl falling off while I was shopping. Sunglasses -- always! And don't forget that in the store, all you have to do is put those sunglasses up top for a "california headband"!
I love this video because I am disabled by a chronic illness and am inspired by my late nana who got dressed and did her face and hair even when she was dying of cancer. She always wanted to look her best. For me, even if I can't get dressed or do more than rest all day, putting on scent is the way I make myself feel better. But I love to pull on a dress, do a touch of makeup, pop earrings in and then I feel sooooooo much better but am still as comfortable as I'd be in my nightgown.
That was my grandmother as well. If she was up and around, even just when I was stopping by for dinner in her last year, she was tidy. She wore a perfect wig and usually wore that amazing green lipstick that turned pink.
I always make sure to wear earrings no matter how casual my outfit. Pearls or small gold hoops are my favorite. I like to choose sunscreen that is tinted so even when I don’t wear makeup my skin is more even-toned.
I remember back when I was a lean size 6 (most of my adult life, actually) that being slim and healthy is actually the best "fashion accessory." Then you literally can make a ripped T-shirt and faded jeans look elegant with a scarf belt or big earrings. I miss those days, so I'm taking great inspiration from you and not eating after 6pm! When I do this combined with regular exercise, the weight falls off naturally, even at age 56. Blessings!
5 hours sleep last night. Ugh. So, yeah, today qualifies as an “off” day. Lol. I’m going to shower, do minimal makeup, pray, and take it as easy as I can. God is good and will see me through. 🙂❤️❤️❤️
That's me around the full moon- zero sleep! To top it off I got a new eye cream which didn't agree with me, so now I have no sleep and purple swollen undereyes. Some days are just hopeless and of course I absolutely must go into town. Just hope and pray I don't run into my fate, or if I do, he likes purple undereye bags :)
@@Chahlie If you ran into your 'fate' that day, Ma'am, it didn't matter what color your eyes were, he would be smitten.... that's what happens when 'fates' meet..... smile. Not to worry.
Sandi Verfurth - God, yes, He will always see us through. His eyes look through to our souls..... our looks don't matter then. When someone has a heart for God, they are a beauty naturally as He 'rubs' off on them. Blessings, Ma'am.
As an unlucky recipient of chronic autoimmune issues, I definitely appreciate these tips. I must say a looming “bad day” can ALWAYS be rescued by a shower, dress, & grooming - looking at you Native!
Fellow sufferer here, I always make an effort not to look how I feel on flare up days! Even if that only means presentable lounge clothes and brushing my hair back into a ponytail.
My mom, who is and was my style icon-she always looked so elegant told me if your hair is combed, and you have on lipstick and blush nobody really notices anything else. Even when I have on joggers if I have on lipstick and blush people comment that I look dressed up. I also add the mascara and earrings. Throwing a blazer, or jacket on ups the level too. I’ve done this when I’m cooking and look a mess. Then I realize I need something from the grocery store I’ll throw a blazer, jean jacket etc over what I’m wearing and I no longer look a mess.
Blazers are a must for me. I collect them. You can put them on over just about anything and look dressed up. This is especially true now that we are all working from home and on zoom calls all day. I always keep a blazer within reach
Imagine my delight when, while watching this video, I looked down at my outfit...the oversized Mer-sea Breton striped shirt, jeans and ballet flats! I wasn’t feeling great this morning, and this outfit saved me from yoga pants and I have felt put together all day. ❤️
Your books and videos have been a primary source of real, honest to goodness help for me. Thank you! Someone I’m related to labeled me “vain” 10 years ago and I took it to heart and gained 40 pounds, stopped dressing up. Perhaps make a video to dispel the label when attempting to look presentable- NOT prideful.
I have a medical appointment tomorrow that will require me to wear something like yoga pants in public. 🤢 And no eye makeup. And no caffeine. 😳 So after watching this I’ll put on a big hat, sunglasses, a tunic, a headband and I’ll make sure my nails look decent. 😂
All Squared Up - if you did all you said you were going to do at your medical appt., I'll bet the other people in the waiting room that day are Still trying to guess which incognito movie star came to their doctor that day!! I'll bet you looked great, ma'am.
Must ask Jennifer - is that you playing the piano at the end of the video? It was so lovely I had to listen to the very end. Super tips tip! Thanks! At 75 years old ,I still like to look my best every day. It makes everything feel so much better, even if I never see another soul all day!
I find that simply putting an apron on while I’m doing housework makes me feel better! I’ve bought several cute ones since you taught me this, and I love them.
I needed this yesterday. I was just not feeling it. I was able to French braid my hair so it didn’t look completely hideous. I definitely didn’t get any makeup on and wore my glasses all day. It was a good reminder that my mood is related to how I present myself to the world. (Finally getting my hair done tomorrow (it’s been 2 years! 😱😱) and I’m going short and blonde! I think that will for sure make me feel better each morning.)
I love long cardigans. I throw them on dresses to make them more casual. When I throw them over jeans and a tank top, I look more dressed up. Thanks for a great video. I also think a perfume spritz or a zesty hand lotion is a great pick me up.
I do too for the sams reason! I also do it bc I've so many sensitivities that I bring my fave Pacifica brand bc I've notice my nails don't react quite as badly (as they have in the past) to salon brands generally carried.
I live in the mountains where the weather is unpredictable and I have an autoimmune disease. I struggle with looking presentable so this really is helpful. I’m getting some headbands and selecting ‘uniforms’ for my off days which is most days. Thanks Jen!
In the 1970s, we Boomer gals relied on classic cotton bandanas to function as bad hair day coverups and I still have a neatly folded pile of them to grab when my hair's gone one day over the line! This was fun and inspiring...thanks!
My mom does this! I saw pictures of her in the 70’s with friends and they did the same. A colorful bandana that matches to your look, so I always grab her a few new ones each year! 😃
@Sandy Candy extensions are done at a beauty salon, they glue them onto your own lashes, individually or in small clumps, and as your natural lashes drop out (this is normal lol) then you lose the false ones too; it takes about a month for them to look too sparse and need topping up and you usually pay less than the first time. They're probably something you wouldn't use until you're older but you could try false ones you glue on for special occasions and you can get fun colours too (great for fancy dress) these take practice to use, and you need to be careful you don't have a bad reaction to the glue! 😳 At your age, you're better starting off with a good quality mascara 🥰
@Sandy Candy Lucky you! 🙂but you said you were 11 in your first reply and asked a question, I was only trying to be helpful, and definitely not a Millennial! 😂
At age 61, I’ve never plucked my brows, they don’t really need it because I never liked them really thin. Natural brows are always in, in my opinion, and save a ton of work.
Jaw length bob - Got2B glued is my bff - i thin it with a bit of conditioner for an all over slick back, or just pat a bit in part on the parted front & side
As I was watching this video, I took a look at myself! Hair up in an easy up-do as it is most days. My pandemic hair does not do well down. I'm in sweat pants, hoodie and t-shirt!! I am definitely having an off day, but I'm changing in to pants and a cardigan, ASAP! This video was very timely!
By the way, yes, to brows, lips and lashes for stay at home doing gardening days. My Ralph Lauren navy linen dress is my go-to one and done outfit. Great content shared today. Thank you! Julie
This video is incredibly helpful. I work from home and I so often feel blah about how I look. Just for myself, I'm going to try some of these things so when I pass by a mirror I feel more positive. Thank you!
A headband is a fantastic option if you have bangs and they're just not cooperating and I love your idea of using a scarf! I've started using them to tie my hair back, whether it's an off day or not. Also, I think the Clinique Black Honey or Pink Honey are great neutral alternatives to lip gloss on days you don't have time or feel like doing a full le no makeup. lol
My uniform is a wrap dress and pink freshwater pearl earrings in the spring/summer. I loved this video I go to the gym every morning and have to shower after it’s so easy to look nice by throwing on a dress and I feel pretty and put together. Sometimes I have to do stuff after my workout so I usually bring a mock neck zip up jacket in case I need to run somewhere. Love the video!
These are great tips. I wear scarves often because they do make me feel more pulled together and polished. I’m a knitter, and have a collection of shawls and scarves I’ve made. They, too, add to a look throughout the cooler months. I’ve been wearing Native deodorant for almost two years, and think it’s highly effective. As someone with sensitive skin I appreciate their collection of lightly scented and unscented deodorants designed for those with sensitive skin.
To cover up after gym, another great tip is to wear a trench-coat, in a fabric that's lighter as usual, and in a shorter length. Under one condition : it's got to be chic , either in a lovely dove colour, a light tan or similar. Try and find a very good designer brand you can find on ebay or other vintage sites or thrift shops. Added bonus : can be worn with so many other outfits, over dresses, jeans, trousers etc
I do a high plait ponytail like 80s Sade, splash face with cold water, use mattifying blur creme, mascara and tinted lip balm on lips and cheeks. Black short or long sleeve T-shirt or Breton shirt and black palazzo pants or capri pants, and that’s it. Dark glasses when outside!
I love all your videos , they’ve been rather life changing honestly . You and Nikki . I’ve really been taking this “be presentable always “ matra to heart and it’s truly helped me feel better about myself and in return I’ve been treated better by the public at large . But I was recently hit with a double whammie , my mother in law of 18 years and my beloved dog of 13 years, both passed in the same 24 hours this week . Is it still important to keep up with the mantra ? Maybe a video for type of thing ? [ “ How to remain chic while dealing with loss “?🤷🏼♀️] We all go through it , especially the older we get . Respectfully, Jessica D.
I remember a Bobbi Brown book (thumbs up for the 90's 😅) where she has a similar list for when you're having an Ugg day that included 1. Wear pearl earrings 2. Wear some eyeglasses
I needed this . Sometimes my mental health is pretty low quality so this is helpful. Also would love to know how you are growing out your eyebrows and tips as I am trying to grow mine out too.
I loved these tips Jennifer!! I put a few into practice today. We had a long weekend of travel and had a very late night so I’m tired today. I put on a favorite sea green dress, put my hair in a chignon with a light blue scrunchie (I love coordinating colors in the same color family together!) and I have been cleaning all day! I might be tired, but I feel pretty and put together! ☺️💗 Thank you for being such a wonderful example! I hope you are having a wonderful Monday!!
These are great tips Jennifer! The best thing about them is that they can be done with little to no effort, yet have a lasting impact. Thank you my dear for sharing! ☺️
I enjoyed hearing all your tips, they are all fabulous ways of looking pulled together when not feeling it. I’m having one of those days today. I feel my trench coat ( it’s chilly and windy) my large sunglasses and everyday uniform of a dress help me still look presentable. I put my hair half up for height but didn’t set my hair last night so it’s otherwise flat and lifeless.
You are a true inspiration, Nikki! Both of you ladies, helped me through some tough times, when dealing with burn out. You helped me find my chic self again....
I am so happy to have discover you! ❤️ You give the motivation for my homemaking, intermittent fasting, declutter, meal planning and beings presentable always. Thanks Bonne journée from 🇨🇦
Great tips! Your "Don't" thumbnail cracked me up 😆, it always so shocking to see you unpresentable, like when you dressed in yoga pants for Halloween 😆
@@TheDailyConnoisseur I can remember how shocked I was when I saw it, it really made an impression on me! It will drive home the looking presentable always principal!
I tend to feel self conscious about my nails. I finally have decided to splurge a little bit and do them in a very inexpensive salon, using semi permanent polish that last two weeks, no chipping. Now I always have my French manicure on and I really feel myself.
Jennifer: I have worn scarves for years (probably 40). When I was younger people took me more seriously. Now that I am older it's just classy. One day a woman I just barely knew told me, "You know, I was wondering which scarf you were going to wear today. You look so elegant in them." They really are my uniform and I wear them over any other accessory. Even in the summer because so many places have air conditioning and sometimes it's too cool. If my husband rolls the window down I can cover my hair so it doesn't get unruly. At work, you never know what the temperature is going to be. When I have a scarf on and my neck is warm, I am always warm. Even if I have heels with no nylons. I have always firmly believed that a scarf can take any outfit up a notch. I just wanted you to know now that I am an empty nester I have a lot more time to respond to these videos. I have watched you for a long time. (since your Ted Talk). I have also shared your channel with numerous others. I just want you to know that I really appreciate you. Hang in there with your little ones. The time goes ohhhh sooo fast! Mitzi
The striped shirt is not great for me either, makes my already wide shoulders more pronounced. I love wearing a bright coral or tangerine color near my face (a top or a scarf) to add color and cheerfulness into my features on an off day! ☺️☀️ brows and blush are a non-negotiable for me as there’s such little contrast in my face. Recently I’ve found out my color season and it’s been so helpful and confidence-boosting to wear the “right” items.
That was really good! And like you...my number one make up is eye brows. My sister and I were just talking about this. The question was, if you had to run out of your house quickly and you could only do one make up thing what would it be? We both said "eye brows".
I discovered press-on nails in light, neutral colors. They have changed somewhere from the first time I tried them years ago to today. I wore my last set for almost TWO WEEKS!
I love Native deodorant! It’s the only natural deodorant that smells great all day and doesn’t give me a rash. So many days I have a hard time looking put together. Thank you for the tips!
My everyday home outfit is one of my knit midi dresses. A cool, breathable one in summer and a warm, long-sleeved one with long socks in winter. The comfort and simplicity of a dress can’t be beat. If I need to run out, I just add a belt and coat or jacket, if needed, and shoes/boots.
Great tips Jennifer! You look wonderful in your new dress. The piano music at the end of your video is so beautiful. Wish I could find it somewhere so I could listen to the entire piece.
I always wear flowy wool or cotton skirts in solid colors usually over my gym leggings when I go train, and I always have compliments and feel dressy when I go to the grocery store afterwards even when sweaty and all :)
I found your channel 2 days ago and I can´t stop watching your videos. I ordered your book "Lessons from madame chic" and I am looking forward to read it. You provide such great content. Sending much love from Austria. You have a new admirer!
Great tips, Jennifer. I love Native’s plastic-free (packaging) line! My favorites are the seasonal scents, and the lilac and white tea for everyday. Then after it’s used up, I can just compost or recycle the packaging. It’s any easy way to help the planet and smell great. Highly recommend!
I commented the same thing! I've never used Native, but love that they offer plastic free packaging! That's kind of a huge deal, to me anyway! I'm loving my DIY coconut oil/b. soda/cornstarch recipe, but if I didn't, I'd definitely choose Native. :)
I just ordered some of the plastic-free for the first time. So excited! Her video was perfect timing because my daughter just asked if we could buy a different brand of deodorant. We'd been using Bali Scents, which I like.
@@victoriaoliver9958 If your daughter likes summer scents like coconut, melon and cucumber I highly recommend Native’s PF summer line. I love them and they definitely get you in the mood for summer!
Great tips! Covid pandemic has made me feel more off days than ever. This was helpful to feel like making an effort without overkill. I have focused more on great skin care and self care. I hardly ever wear makeup anymore lol! I have a super simple routine which makes me happier, but adding a few touches back could be fun again. So thank you!
Excellent tips! I will especially bear in mind reaching for a one-piece outfit (e.g., a dress) for when I return to the office! God knows, there are plenty of mornings when I'm pressed for time and nothing is working out.
Great video, Jennifer! I love the dress you are wearing too - so beautiful and perfect for spring! Instead of throwing on athleisure wear this morning for an early dr appt, I’m throwing on jeans and a classic navy/white stripe tee and a camel belt/flats.
I find adding a bright, highlighter color to my clothing can help my mood and help distract from tired eyes, too. A small silk scarf can tie around a ponytail holder to make it look “done”, too.
Versatile Athleta dresses are my secret weapon to look presentable after a gym or yoga session. As long as I am not sweaty, I throw one on after a workout and before I run errands. Yes, I was one of those who raved about Londontown in last weekend’s livestream. Ever since I started using their illuminating nail concealer (makes manicures so easy), there has been no excuse to let my manicures go anymore. Headbands are my secret weapon in Zoom meetings. Thanks to your videos, there is no excuse to looking sloppy, even if no one is watching. We never know when an old friend randomly pops in to say hi or FaceTimes us.
I don’t care about makeup. But when I go to work, I put some on. For me it is a show of respect, of trying to look clean and presentable. My top 3 are under eye concealer, some shadow (usually cream shadows) and lashes. As I work with students with articulation and language problems I use a bit of color on my lips so they can se them better through my see-through mask. I also need scarves as us teachers get throat aches really often. I try to color match them and secure them with a brooch, and they make me look a tad older but also a ton more presentable.
I just tried the easy chignon... already feel more put together and it does look much more elegant. my go-to things on off days are pendant earrings, flicky eyeliner (takes a minute), mascara and lip gloss or a tinted balm. Might invest in a long cardigan and a nice scent soon. Thank you for the ideas!
I find that looking well-groomed and neat solves most of the issues...if you are clean and your clothes look nice even if you are just wearing pants and a casual top and sneakers but they are nice quality, that will go a long way!
I work from home and I am on video conferencing calls all day. I am determined to look presentable. The headband antifreeze in jail for my hair or two must. I also think a little perfume is good even if no one else is home. It lifts my mood and makes me feel on top of my game. Of course the lashes and lips and cheeks my most minimal make up that I can get away with right now.
Ahhhhhh! LOVE this! Some of these I LIVE by, and some of this is new and fabulous and I will implement today! As always, you are wonderful and I appreciate your content so much!! 💕
The make up VIP for me is tinting my eyebrows and lashes at home approx every 2 months. It makes me look a lot more awake and 'Bright' for some reason! That way even if I'm totally slack I still look ok, and with a swish of my fave eyeliner pencil I look presentable ☺️ and no need to worry about smudging the mascara!
Thank you, Jennifer!! I love your “off” days tips!! I had to laugh when I saw your “don’t” picture!!! I thought, Jennifer probably never looked that “un put together” in her life!!! Thanks for all that you do!!!😍
Great tips! I'd like to add that wear your favorite perfume on those days. Maybe a fresh one from your collection will make you feel so refreshed. Also some jewelry like gold hoops which is something I always wear helps with the delicacy of outfits as well. Along with headbands, I'll sometimes remove the scarves from my scrunchies and use them when I want to hide greasy hair, and ends up having a fun pop of colour on me. Hope this helps!
Wonderful tips AS ALWAYS! And I love that Native is the sponsor ! Fantastic products ! I just did a post talking about the links between aluminum in most deodorants and breast cancer , and had people asking about safe ones and Native was most definitely on the list.
Love this video, Jennifer! Great tips! I’ve been looking for a great scarf and some sunglasses. A Breton shirt and jeans with some red lipstick is my go-to look. So classic. Also, you look so beautiful! Your hair! That dress! I’m loving that shade of green lately. Thanks for all the great videos. ❤️
I love the up-do suggestions and the headband with the top knot! I also have longer hair, and on those ‘off’ days, I never know what to do with myself! I’m going to try to do the low knot today! This was a great video to watch! Perfect timing! Seize the Day!
I've been after a top knot headband for a while now, I finally found one and I absolutely love it! It's also great for smoothing down my weird postpartum baby hairs that are still growing out 20 months on 😂💕
