Elden Ring (PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S/One) is filled with awesome weapons and items, but it also has plenty of stinkers. Here are our least favorite/useful weapons. Subscribe for more: ru-vid.com?su... #EldenRing
The beast repellant torch will stop agro on MOST wild animals. So far, I've tested on wolves, basilisks, trex wolf guys, "some" Ant type enemies, and a few others and is very useful in dungeons.
@@thesituation5315 There's loads of wildlife in Elden Ring with everything from small birds to massive bears that will ruin your day in a split second if you aren't careful. Elden Ring is undoubtedly the best open world experience I've had to date and is imo one of the best games I've played so far and one of if not the best game that has released in the past decade or so. The sense of exploration is unmatched and there's so much to do and see that even afrer 136 hours of playtime im still finding new things.
@@thesituation5315 There's lots of wild animals like bears, wolves, deer, ram, sheep,. Its when you get to the mutated versions of these things is the big suprise lol. You should see murder-bear forest.
Sidenote on the torch... It illuminates dark areas about 50% more than a lantern, but what's even cooler is that if you equip both, it combines their light, making even the darkest area super bright for a good draw. I know in most cases the lantern will suffice, but there are ambush moments and lurking enemies that pretty much count on you having the limited light source of the lantern, but with the added light of the torch you can spot them much easier. It's pretty cool that the light "stacks", and I feel the lighting effects is were the his game shines graphically.
In addition: A big advantage of the Serpent Hunter is that it doesn't need any special requirements to wield it. A lot of players who do RL1 runs are using it.
So off the bat the flail is meant for heavily armored enemies like stone imps or clayman they're good at clearing low level mines with wild slashes. You build stagger like crazy spear is good for whats for pushing a line and being able to keep your shield up while advancing. The torch can light the stone people with the pouches on their back. Early level they save your life
The flail is also really good for the Crystaliens if you're going with a Dexterity build as there are very few good Strike weapons that use Dexterity. I'm not saying you should upgrade it to +25 or anything but you should probably keep a Strike weapon in your inventory just in case you run into one of those.
I'll defend the soldier's crossbow now. See, for many pure melee builds it's not really about sniping enemies but about luring out enemies so you're not dealing with a huge pack. And since the lock on distance in this game is pretty huge, having a crossbow in your off-hand is super handy. It's not a powerhouse by any means but it is the lightest crossbow and the requirements to use one are really low. 8 dex and 10 str means anyone can use this badboi in their offhand. It helped a lot during some places where I simply couldn't afford to take on a bunch of enemies so, I whip out old realiable, shoot one of the baddies and take them out one at a time. Don't sleep on the crossbows people!
as someone who used to carry around a light crossbow in ds2 for this reason i agree. but also in pvp you can use it to keep people dodging to make it so if you are good at timing it you can rush in an punish a low stamina bar. or it helps you get in a bit of damage or hit fleeing opponents trying to get some space to heal(got my friend in ds2 with that quite a lot)
4:40 The serpent hunter is also good in PvP it has a good and fast doge/crouch attack and good running attack, both attacks can be used for role catching, only downside is you can‘t change the ash of war, but overall this weapon is pretty good
The thorn staff makes the intelligence spells scale of faith, so as long as you have enough for the intelligence requirement the thorn staff is good for faith builds if they want to cast certain lower level glintstone spells.
also arcane just got buffed so the blood thorn abilities are pretty powerful and they require faith to use especially briars of punishment it tracks very well and does substantial damage and causes bleed build up for a small sacrifice of hp instead of fp
Yeah, so basically useless, I mean who wants to use low level spells? I mean if you go faith you got plenty and I mean you have a huge arsenal of incantations that are way and way better.
Don’t hate on the torch lol, steel wire torch has a sick ash of war that acts like a flame thrower. I slept on the lantern long enough to really enjoy the torch. Then I got gud😂
@@tj3n321 you find flail first, hence ealry level, hence you havent aquired 100s of weapons. Now imagine if you arent a strength build and just need some strike damage and you have a flail, what do you do? Not use it because there are 100s of better....shut up
especially if you actually use the chain attacks associated with spinning chain and not just try to hit with the spin... plus... flails can't be parried which is an added plus in pvp if you come across golden parry spammers
For a starter - I advise to give the Staff of the Guilty a chance especially if you want to take advantage of Arcane Bleeding Build if you have both Briar of Sin as well as Briar of Punishment. You can later replace the Staff of the Guilty with something like the Albinauric Staff for better scaling with Arcane.
Even when you get the Albinauric Staff, its good to have the Staff of the Guilty in your offhand so that you still get the passive faith boost and the increased potency towards thorn sorceries.
So glad to see people defending the flail. I'm running a mage class but need to deal strike damage sometimes and my character meets the requirements to wield it. Its honestly a pretty good weapon for some builds
I leveled the whip all the way up and put an ash on it that gives it int scaling. I use it as my off hand weapon for my mage. It's pretty useful. It staggers things that get too close so you have time to cast something at it.
Mundane makes your weapon scale with whichever one of your stats is the lowest, but I think it scales better than most other scaling types. So if you have a lot of points put into all your stats, you end up getting better damage than a focused build. It's mostly for high level characters
Also the torch pole used to be good. It had decent faith scaling, making the fire damage pretty good. But they completely removed the scaling on patch 1.03
I just realized that there’s no broken sword in the game… Also, the flail is is one of the best horseback weapons. Also great on a holy (or other elemental) build, as it doesn’t have the high requirements of other flails. Been using that thing the whole game
I died laughing when I used a flail for the first time in game. The spinning chain looks so ridiculous. Until you input light or heavy attack and then your guys goes pretty crazy with it. But I just have to laugh, imagine someone approaching you in battle doing that.
Soldiers Crossbow is the lightest 50 range weapon, tied with a certain bow you get pretty late. I actually preferred it over Arbalest or the Light Crossbow (which is, in fact, heavier) during the first hours of the game as i was scrambling for Equip Load and did not care at all for its damage. It‘s the lightest thing for good FP-free pulling of enemies.
The forked hatchet really messed up margit for me starting as a wretch. Made that bastard bleed half his health away i actually loved that thing early on. Paired with a pretty fast attack speed easy to fight and dodge all at the same time for a noob
Don't remind me. I swear that one Night Cavalry was harder than the Tree Sentinel just because his double headed flail connects way easier than a halberd.
@@TheSkyheart5 the Night Cavalry at Weeping Peninsula who use flail is weak af. I always fight Tree Sentinel/Cavalry in a horse battle and I am pretty skilled on that js xD. but yeah the point is that Night Cavalry is weak af, compare it to the Night Cavalry on Lenne's Rise. dude is so strong and so tough like a well done steak.
i used the flail for the longest time at the beginning, the strike damage + bleed + non-parry + quick guard-counter, helped out alot until the nightrider
As someone who almost never blocks in soulsborne games, rickety shield is the best for being the lightest small shield at 1.0 weight. Buckler has the best parry frames, but if you use the non standard shield parries like Carian Retaliation or Golden Parry, the buckler parry frames become the same as every other small shield that has that parry AOW. So in a purely practical sense, if you only want to use a small shield as a non standard parry aow, then the rickety shield is ideal since it has the lowest weight
You can cheese the rogier mage invader with the flail at a low level by using its ash of war behind his back. I killed him in like 5 seconds at level 20 doing this
the crucial part of the "weapons" is the upgrade level and the AoW. the moveset is secondary next to weight/length/speed, coz as long as it's got a poke animation that you can use to roll catch, then it's fine.. since R1 spam is mostly replaced with AoW spam, jump attacks, pokes, roll catch, and backstabs. dark souls combat was like a boxing match, but elden ring fights are more like gunslinger duels. people die at a drop of a hat.
The Nightrider Flail imo is sooo good, paired it with the wild strikes AoW and it pretty much carried me until the end of the game (eventually switched to the Sword of Melania). But the bleed on that flail was so OP for boss fights, literally one shot Radahn on my first playthrough lol.
The flail is actually very underrated imo. It’s a really good backup for slash resistant enemies. It has passive bleed and can do a decent job at poise/posture breaking for a critical. At the very least I’d recommend it for a new character early game if you’re putting some stats into dex.
Yeah... the flail WRECKS Crystellians. If you knock 1 down with a flail, they're done for unless there's more than 1. I used the Twin Maidens Puppets for the Triple Rot Crystellians and took then down 1 by 1 with my flail. If you can knock one down, you can do a fully charged attack in their animation to get back up, followed by 2 uncharged heavy attacks, and then they're down for a crit, and then you can keep them on a loop where they can't fight back. I'm so glad I decided to main a Flail in my first play through. I upgraded to a Nightrider's early and set it to scale with INT as I was going for a mage knight, but flails are just awesome if you know how to use one.
Makes more sense I beat the crystellion trio with my small sword and was wondering why I was doing very little damage until I shattered the first layer of armor
@@manuelcorvobelda1831 from should definitely patch this weapon making it a basic ass weapon once you're done dealing with Rykard. So we can customize it with ash and change affinity and all. Its cool looking and good weapon but missing weapon art is a big deal breaker.
That rickety shield is actually good if you use the Holy Ground ash of war that puts down a regen/defense field then you can swap it/2 hand your main weapon because the shield only weighs 1.0 unit so you don’t have to worry about weight if you wanted to add holy ground into your build
The staff of the guilty lets str/fth builds cast basic spells with good effectiveness and pairs really well with the beast claw talisman. Also lets you get base int reqs for blood magic and invest the rest in faith so you can cast blood incantations as well
The flail is brilliant!!! I used it on an NPC invadner I was struggling with over and over again killed him in a couple of seconds ha I have also seen people use it beat a high level boss almost out of the gate its bleed effect is amazing super powerful. I only used it a couple of times for stuff like that. ATM I am using The Banished Knight's Greatsword I am still very early in the game and exploring alot.
The serpent hunter has amazing roll catches. And when I looked at it it seemed like it had no requirements to wield. I'm not sure if that went away after I beat rykard, but still. I have one in my inventory maxed out if I'm having a rough time catching rolls in pvp.
In defense for the flail, it's meant to be a strike weapon for mages or builds with low strength, and some enemies are only weak to said strike damage. On top of that the Flails Ash of War was completely misrepresented in this video. It's a charge up that leads to a heavy or light attack from the L2, not used as a spinning weapon
Hey man one torch puts to sleep, one makes beast run away, an one shows the invisible black knight enemies. Try them out you'll see. Have to read its info to see the names I forgot
The flail is primarily for the crystaline enemies in the mines, Serpent hunter seems to be used in PVP at times due to it's poke length and quick animation, but yes, it's primarily for the boss. The Thorn staff is for the blood/thorn magic that exists in the game, it's VERY useful for those two spells that does crazy damage. There's a few builds that use the thorn staff in the offhand and a glintstone staff in the main hand and you use the two for pretty substantial blood damage. It's niche, but definitely not useless.
I use the Knight riders flail it's actually a good weapon to de stance your enemies and very effective against rock and other mineral type enemies, plus bleed effect btw you can do a smash attack following the weapons ash of war move
It's also great on horseback R2 as you continually spin the flail, quickly building bleed and stagger meter. Great for drive-by's knocking multiple enemies, and for those that struggle with horse combat
I gave mine to my friend and he's still dual wielding them in the late game. Upgraded with frost infusions, he just shatters poise and the damage when frost and blood pop is great.
The torch is really good against those little piles of flesh and bone. Just like in the Cathedral of the Deep in DS3. Could even be considered as an essential weapon for fighting them.
I have been running the Troll Knights Greatsword. It's a collosal weapon that scales in strength and intelligence, right now at +8 I believe it does 280 Phys, 160 magic plus another 160 added on due to scaling. It's an absolute monster and the trolls roar weapon art Poise breaks almost anything except the biggest bosses. And as a backup I run the astel wing curved sword with the talisman that boosts charged spells and attacks. Battlemage for life baby!!!
I used the wooden greatshield the whole game my first playthrough, stops heaps of heavy attacks and straight deflects most at a minor cost to health and best of all it only weighs 8 so i could still wear heaps of armor and midroll. Great shields super underrated Also the last shield isnt bad its basically just a easy parry option for no weight cost
I've used the normal flail in the first parts of the game. Pair it with the wild strikes ashes of war and you can basically stun lock in PVP or some bosses and enemies.
Dual weld fork hatched is op on boss and bleed proc like crazy. Really good early game bleed weapon if you dont have the katana or other bleed weapon. Equip it with cold ash of war and you get cold and bleed proc so you stun lock most enemy or use any other ash of war because passive bleed carry over.
I think the intent of the rickety shield is have one of the lightest parry options you can. This simply means you might have the tightest build possible where you can still parry with a weapon switch and remain at a certain equip load
I hear everyone saying short spear is bad... But its double-tap R2 is amazing for applying status. The low stat requirements make it really good as a frost weapon. It also is one of the best weapons to mix with rot grease with standard infusions. If paired with a crossbow, you can have a lot of fun with greases.
Flail is actually a good (backup) weapon. It can break poise. It can strike those crystal and other hard skins. It can proc bleed. It can be imbued with element enchantment magic/item.
There’s the St. Trina’s torch, I think it’s called, in the giants region in a treasure chest with the Amazon deliver giants lol. It’s special is where you blow the purple flame at the opponent to put them to sleep. Good stuff
Torches are definitely viable IMO, fire damage scales with strength and I think the returns are pretty good late game. (Also lightning is similar with scaling off dex) You can also upgrade the torches all the way to +25 to improve scaling and status application rate for the ones that have em. 👍🏻
The rickety shield might be nice to equip some throwaway ash of war (storm wall, Thops's Barrier, etc) as it only weighs 1.0. Might be also the lightest parry option there is?
I used it before the buckler due to its low weight for parry. It was the botw equivalent of a pot lid. Doesn’t matter how strong or weak the shield is if your timing is on point :)
as a sorcery main i can tell you that some of the sorceries require faith so staff of the guilty is actually pretty good for certain sorcery builds. i was thinking of making a second astrologer for it actually as my current one is pure int.
Honestly I have yet to find a dagger that doesn’t suck although there’s the blood spear I get from the finger eater that I haven’t use cus I don’t have a arcane build, I’m more focused on faith and intelligence.
Then you clearly haven't found Reduvia, good for bleed and Arcane, or Black Knife which has a busted Ash, or the Blade of Calling which is the head for the Black Knifes tails, and you clearly don't dual wield knives
You know why daggers suck so much? The reduvia is ass compared to just putting a blood ash of war with arcane scaling on it. Its really dumb that reduvia is so awful, but actually putting the ash of war on regular dagger lets you scale with arcane, which even without leveling gives you better bleed
@@pearlysplayhouse7761 Or. Use the weapons Ash. Which is good for cheesing some bosses with low bleed resist and need to melee. Plus you don't lose health like you do with the normal Ash of War that does the same. Reduvia isn't bad, you're just using it like a dagger when it's more for casting the slash from afar
Great Serpent Hunter is pretty good. It has very good str scaling and its moveset is really good. It can basically poke from normal attack like a spear, but can also poke from roll attack like Greatsword.
I love the flail. I haven't found a better flail yet, but I have the first 2 major bosses beat in 5 tries, so it is working for me. It staggers often on a heavy blow
Staff of the guilty is pretty good for hybrid caster builds that focus on faith, especially if youre using a lot of golden order incantations. Those require mainly faith, but also some intelligence. Thrown on staff of the guilty, and you suddenly have access to low-mid tier sorceries that will now be strengthened by your strength and faith
There are fire sorceries that have faith requirements. From a first glance perspective I see why they added it to the list, but people looking for build variety and capitalizing on lesser used faith sorceries will have a good use for it.
Since the staff of the guilty was brought up, I think one of the issues I've noticed with the game regarding staffs and seals is that the game actively pushes you away from using staffs and seals made for specific categories of incantations and sorceries. I've kind of noticed that a lot of spellcasters in this game use a generalized build spell wise for the sake of viability during a playthrough as some enemies or bosses need certain types of damage unless you wanna smash your head into a wall. Hand monsters needing fire, malenia needing bleed or frost, etc. While this isn't necessarily a bad thing, it definitely puts build that go down a specific route of spells at an objective disadvantage, thus destroying the viability of certain staffs or seals long term. I've been using the gravel stone seal for instance and using any type of incantation that isn't dragon cult does way less damage and almost isn't worth it, which is a problem when you run into bosses like malenia who are already hard even when you abuse certain status effects.
_ALL HAIL THE _*_FLAIL!!!_* It was my main wep for ~45 lvls as a Confessor until I came across something better. *It's fast and has (50) bleed!* I took down many an enemy and a few bosses with it! I highly recommend it for _any_ class starting out.
I found the flail pretty useful as a Dex build. Didn't have a lot of blunt weapons that have low strength requirements. You need blunt weapons for those miner guys. Flail came to the rescue
