For how boring and mad he looks on the sidelines. Belechick is actually fun to see smiling and praising legends. I hate him coaching but he on this show seems chill
He's always exuberant when he gets to talk about scheme or former players. I can't remember if it was earlier this year or last year but someone asked him a question about covering punts in a press conference and he spent 5 minutes answering when he normally says as little as possible in the press conferences.
hes always like that except when he has to answer dumb questions from the media Pat's fans know this but the rest of the country doesn't see that part of coach
Hey Dix Winger i know he's focused and is one of the smartest football guys ever im just saying he never smiles but when it comes to these kind of shows he looks like hes having a great time
One of the greatest football stats I have ever seen: Tony Gonzalez had 2 career fumbles! Not fumbles lost, we talking total fumbles. U N B E L I E V A B L E
What Antonio Gates accomplished after not playing a down in college is incredible. After one year of on-the-job training he became a Pro Bowl player. He was durable as he played into his late thirties. He caught more touchdowns than any other tight end. I agree with every tight end choice on this team, but leaving Gates out is just dumb.
i would argue that if sharpe isn't on here, gates should also be off, because who would one take off the list? Also I believe that their definition of the 100 greatest players isn't met on the list, when for the skill positions they quite visibly went for talent over the greatness of the player's career!
I'm in a minority, but I think John Mackey was the Best TE in NFL history. They threw much less Mackey played, as opposed to Gonzalez and Gronkowski. Mackey not only averaged around 15 yards per catch, but he was unblockable
@@aidanhansen868 playing 16 years in the league what do you expect he's not an all time great tight end like Ditka Winslow Gonzalez and Gronkowski are he's great but not an all time great
@@OldManLuffy ok and Jerry Rice played 20 so he isnt an all time great, gronk legit has only 7500 yards, witten im all time yards is 19th, Gronk is 107th
@@sebasjimenez1490 Football is a team sport bro Shannon got drafted by the Broncos and then went to a loaded team in the Ravens...Tony had the talent Shannon didnt his numbers with JOHN ELWAY would have been on steroids i dont think at 6'2 6'3 Shannon could have single handedly carried the Chiefs offense like Tony did Shannon had Rod Smith and Ed McCaffrey theres a reason why Tonys 3rd all time in RECEIVING yards not by postion but all time he waa option 1,2,3 and 4
Witten, Gates and Sharpe should obviously be here, especially Sharpe with how he revolutionized the game, Witten because he is always open and a great blocker, and Gates is a surehanded TD machine.
The Patriots were blessed with TEs with both Russ Francis and Ben Coats pre-Gronk. Both of them dominated in their eras and could be on any list of top TEs.
Damn this show, actually making me like Bill Belichick lol. Always respected him but this show would do wonders PR wise in showing what a cool guy he seems to be if this was widely viewed. Ive been loving all this NFL 100 content
In the rare event that a reporter asks him a good question, you'll see him engage them and even talk for minutes about it. If it's like the majority, a filler type of question, you get the "On to Cincinnati." type of responses. He's a football encyclopedia, for sure.
Jerry Smith of the Redskins was one of the most underrated players in NFL history. When he retired he led all TEs in touchdowns, and was a big part of that offense.
CrushingRock really I mean, Mike Ditka was great, I love him, who the hell doesn’t love Ditka? The football guy to end all football guys, he’s great. But I’d for sure replace him with Sharpe
Newsome and Sharpe belong for sure. Also I'd argue that Ben Coates was that good. He led the league in receptions at a point when the Patriots were terrible and he was usually the only option to pass to. Was almost always double covered. I don't think he's better than Gronk, but if he played during the to Brady years he would've been scary
Very few tight ends could make an offense as unstoppable as gronk made the patriots. For a lot of his career, he was the best receiver on his team and sometimes the only real threat yet you still couldn’t stop him and Brady
Ozzie is the best TE of the 70's & 80's. a vacuum cleaner. Unless you saw him play you dont know how good he was. We know he's one of the best ever and so do plenty of other people. These lists leave much to be desired.
yep right outta the gate with Tony Gonzalez, who showed his basketball level hops on the football field. Loved a football life with him too, and he aged so well too. 1:30 softmore slump damn lol funny how Cris Collinsworth said he had to change his notes. 3:20 muscle memory. I like bill's respect too.
My God, where the hell is Shannon Sharpe? Gates? Coming from a Chiefs fan, we are well aware of their incredible skills. Sharpe was ridiculously good and could probably still play with the best of them.
KSU 1989 - McGinnest? I didn’t see him on the official list of the top LBs. They have 12 listed. Thomas is not among them but neither is McGinnest. There is Willie Lanier from KC.
For the people wondering about bill. Every interview and tv show he’s got a up beat personality. It’s only interviews or during a game he doesn’t want to show emotion because the other team can capitalize on that. You want to stay neutral. I grew up racing for 25yrs under sponsorship and you never wanted anybody to know if a certain track made you nervous. I mean I lost a lot of friends that were killed and had a serious 185g crash at 162mph into a wall and was as close to dead as you can get in 2000. So you never wanted to show your hand and always sandbag. These sporting events are 95% mental 5% physical.
They are right, John Mackey was a nightmare. I saw him play. When I started playing football. I tried to be like Mackey, Jackie Smith of the Cardinals.
@@Cosmicslopman sharpe is overrated compared to gronk. Gronk put up more tds than sharpe, and 4/5 Sharpe's yards in half the games played. Not to mention he was simultaneously the best blocking te in the league while recieving like that.
@@Pedopedomaster he also played in a receiving era and with the GOAT according to many for his whole career. Just think of the Broncos SB years. They had Terrell Davis at RB who made it to the HOF. How many times do you think they were going to throw the ball? Chill out...
@@siliziwencanywa1138 sharpe played for a west coast offense that prominently featured him every game. Gronk spent more than half of the time blocking against the #1/2 edge rushers and #1 lb's in the league while sharpe blocked way less often because of Davis's phenomenal skill. Only thing that needs to chill is people downplaying his dominance just because people dont like his team.
So many good ones over the years...Newsome, Sharpe, Graham, Bavaro, Francis, Jackie Smith, Jerry Smith, Coates, Novacek, Shuler, Casper, Gates...Kelce, after he retires.
Jerry Smith played 30 less games and has 13 MORE TD's than Ozzy. Jerry was more dangerous threat than Ozzie was but he ALWAYS gets overlooked because he was openly gay and died from AIDS.
Gonzalez had the longevity but he was never as good as prime Gronk. Tony was able to go up and get the ball extremely effectively. Gronk was able to do that at the same level except take it down and bust through three more tackles on the way to to a TD or a high yardage play.
Mark Mclean I think tony Gonzalez’s go up and get it ability mixed with his longevity makes him by far the goat of tight ends Edit: I also think that his route running was far better than gronks
Shannon Sharpe! 3 time super bowl champ and did it clutch time, Teo different super bowl teams and in an era when passing wasn’t even close to this. Tony G was great, but no champion.
@@aaronarguelles8322 yeah I believe he was so clutch in that Super Bowl with the ravens having only 2 catches for 12 yards 🤣 the team was good without sharp tbh wasn’t too clutch in that one. He basically was along for the ride in that Super Bowl. Again, it took a Hall of fame quarterback to make Sharp relevant. Tony G did it with non in fact he made those teams stand out.
I would have taken in order. 1. Kellen Winslow Sr. 2. Rob Gronkowski. 3. Tony Gonzalez. 4. Shannon Sharpe. 5. Antonio Gates. Ditka and Mackey were the pioneers of the position but the bottom line is that they have since been surpassed. I'd have Ozzie Newsome over them as well. As a Cowboys fan I love Novacek and Witten but they were never quite as elite as the 5 I picked or Ozzie.
Saying they've been surpassed doesn't mean I don't think they were good, only that 5 or 6 guys who came after them are better. I could see someone ranking them higher than I would but I really think Mackey over Gronk is a real stretch. Ditka and Mackey would still be pro bowl caliber players today I just think others at the most elite of the position have surpassed them. If we're talking about underrated tight ends, Jackie Smith did hold the tight end yards record for over a decade after his retirement so that makes sense. For other underrated tight ends. I would include Jerry Smith who was the first tight end to reach 60 touchdowns and held the tight end touchdown record for over a quarter of a century after his retirement. I'm also big believer in Charlie Sanders being underrated. He doesn't have the stats because he was a low volume tight end on bad teams but he had great hands and made some really athletic acrobatic catches. I would take Todd Christensen over Dave Casper but it's close. Casper was more athletic and made great adjustments to the ball in the air whereas Christensen was better at things like route running and getting open. Christensen's 1983 puts him over Casper by the hair of his chinny chinny chin. Gates and Witten are each other's own contemporaries with similar length careers so they are more comparable than some guys. While Witten has more yards and more 1000 yard seasons, Gates has the touchdown record and has 4 seasons of double digit touchdowns. I also think defensive coordinators would fear Gates more than Witten.
@@michaelsloane9955 Records are meant to be broken and tight ends have become more prominent in the last 30 years. Stacking this list with guys from recent eras does the older guys a disservice. Not to mention those older guys played with terribly inaccurate QBs, where it was common to retire with more INTs than TDs. Gates played with Rivers, a future HOF in my opinion, his entire career. Shannon had Elway for more than half of his career. Tony caught balls from a rotating cast of nobodys. I would argue Brady has needed Gronk more to cement his legacy. You list some good legendary old school guys, but Mackie and Ditka were above those guys in the before Winslow era.
BTW Shannon's best numbers came when he had Ed McCaffrey, Rod Smith, and Terrell Davis commanding loads of attention. Plus, Shannon wasn't much of a blocker like the other guys, which gets overlooked because there aren't stats for that. Still a HOF indeed, but I'm fine with him not on this list. Also, his brother Sterling should be in the HOF if Terrell Davis got in, just saying.
Sterling Sharpe absolutely deserves to be in the Hall of Fame. I love James Lofton, but to me Sterling Sharpe is the best wide receiver in Packers history. Imagine if he had played long enough to play in Favre's prime?. Sterling Sharpe was the real deal and then some. I always thought Sterling Sharpe should have made the 1990s All Decades Team instead of Tim Brown.
Shannon Sharpe is the reason why TE get double coverage.....the disrespect is real on this list. That's like saying LT didn't change the game as a linebacker. Unc changed the game for TE's
You seriously need to go back and watch film shannon is for sure on the mt Rushmore of tight ends. Gronk kelce tony g and Shannon sharpe are the four greatest tight ends of all time. Please tell me how Shannon isn’t? He held every receiving record for the tight end position when he retired and the man won a super bowl with two franchises and was apart of the best Broncos dynasty of all time and the ravens like you can’t tell the story of the nfl without Shannon sharpe.
@Tyler Edwards that's why I never responded to this moron. It's probably just a Raider troll. Anyone with common sense for the game knows Shannon Sharpe's name rings bells when it comes to tight ends!
@@alphonseblackwood2930yea nah you cant talk football you stupid say what you want to me i aint scared to take criticism but shannon is a bad mf tight end your an idiot period
Exactly. Of course the tacklers could avoid that 'free ride' if they remembered how to tackle. You know, hit at the waist, slide down, wrap up the legs.
Shannon sharpe retired with every tightens record… doesn’t matter if they got broke when he retired he was the GOAT and should be respected as such smh
Did they not watch the NFL in the 90s and 2000s? Shannon is actually a top 5 TE (arguably top 3 behind Mackey and Gonzalez). The guy was a freaking beast. Back in the day, there were only 3 reasons you watched a Broncos game: Elway, Sharpe and Atwater.
I hear ya all. Sharpe, Witten, Casper, Gates all deserve to be up there. But unfortunately, there are only so many TEs that they can put up in the top 100 players of all time. I'm sure if it was 120 or 150, they would all be up there. Regardless, it's a tough choice and I can't really dispute including Mackey, Ditka, Gonzalez, and Gronk in the top 100.
It’s a robbery that Shannon Sharpe is NOT on this list. Unk was the first prototype tight end that ran like a receiver and who was split out wide on routes. He has the numbers statically, got three Super Bowls with two teams, broke a record in one game for yards with 214 receiving yards against the Chiefs. He was virtually unguardable one on one. Whoever voted for this category needs to go back and relook at this because if anyone who deserves to be on the list for greatest tight ends ever, Sharpe is that player.
