I have cut up and torn up unfinished WC paintings and discovered that the smaller parts were a delight to keep working on. The bits that were of the "what were you thinking" variety has disappeared and i was left with the fun parts! It's a matter of realizing that the sum of the parts was greater than the whole!

Who knew your paintings were secretly waiting for a makeover! Sometimes the best creations come from unexpected places. I find its so important to embrace your failures because that's the only path to true breakthroughs and success!

The torn squares are cool and your project turned out great! I've been making tiny watercolor paintings for a very long time and have done this and so many other cool things with them. I have a few paper punches with various sizes of circles and recommend doing tiny paintings on them. It's really fun and before you know it, you've got dozens and dozens of tiny paintings you can use in your projects.

Your support means a lot to me. I appreciate your encouragement and the great idea about using tiny paintings on circles!

Very good idea! I always keep my “failed” watercolors. I’ll Gesso the paper and now I have acrylic paint paper gessoed and ready to use. Or I make bookmarks if a part of the paintings turned out cool, add a tassel and put a small art piece on a gift or in a card. Or I’ll make collage for mix media projects. I use my paper completely up. Paper is expensive and good paper can really Handel anything I can put it through. I like the grid art idea seriously it’s a very cool idea!

And apart from recycling paper, you can recycle some ideas!

Wonderful idea. And you’ve shown me what I can do with all my test sheets. I use scraps of watercolour paper and even printer paper to test watercolours, pencil crayons, pencils, markers, inks, etc. By the time there’s no space left for testing on a scrap, it looks almost like a wonky piece of art. These scraps get tossed into a box because I don’t have the heart to throw them out. Now I can tear them up into little squares and create a grid. Thank you!

I personally love the idea of being able to recycle 'failed' attempts. I once met an artist who framed the paper palettes he used when creating the painting as part of the painting. It was a really cool effect!

I'll pull out some pages of landscape grid paintings that I have in my sketch book and torn the squares up. 😉You took grid painting to another level. I like your concept of putting them all together to hang on the wall. Thank you for sharing!

Definitely, the sum is greater than the whole. For some reason I look at it and think deconstructed layers. Creativity can go anywhere. Sometimes it sings and this one does.

Love this idea! I want to make a whole painting, maybe sort of abstract landscape and then tear it up and reposition it on the background. I think that would be really cool. I’m gonna try a small one to start with. Love finding new ideas as I get extremely bored with traditional stuff. Thank you!

I wouldn't recommend cardboard backing... it isn't acid free and who knows what will happen over time. I do like this idea though. :)
@mixedmediamasters
@mixedmediamasters 2 месяца назад
You make a very solid point. I suspect that acid free matboard could work here perfectly.

When I try this for myself I think I'll put the wee squares on a blackground to offset the visual impact! Or, I'll use blacklight neon paints for that mk-ultra effect...👀

When you frame this piece will it be in a shadow box because of raised art?
@mixedmediamasters
@mixedmediamasters 2 месяца назад
What a great question! I suppose it depend on the depth of the frame and how high you lift things off the paper. The cardbard I used was pretty thin so it offered a little bit of relief but still fit comfortably behind the glass.
