Back where I grew up my friends and I have found grinding bowls that have effigies, animals, that have been craved on the underside of them such as turtles.

That one you found in the crevasse goes with stories of how they would hide their good manos to use later.

That is so cool. What a day out! Congrats on your wedding. I grew up looking at a mano and metate that belonged to my dads second wife and sat in a window of my dads house . She was half Shoshone. Those artifacts had belonged to her mother. I was bitten by the archaeology bug when I stepped on an arrow point wading in a river. Other things contributed as well but that was the trigger event. I have been fascinated ever since. I suppose it helps to know that I have Cohari and Apalache ancestors as well. Great video. I am envious...thanks for sharing! A suggestion for the sake of good vibes...leave some tobacco as a little token offering whenever you find a place like this to comfort those who went before us.A hint for tracking sites you have visited...if you have a signal you can GPS locate and tag where you have been or use Google Earth and screenshot the coordinates for reference so you can go back to each location.

Interesting finds! Curious to who lived out there, difficult to tell from the plainware sherds you found. But fascinating none the less! I couldn't help but notice some clay near the area too. Fun video to watch!

You're on the sites we found on an archaeological survey for the Bagdad mine in 1992-3. It was so hot in July that my boots melted twice and fell apart.
@candui-7
@candui-7 Год назад
Then much more recently strange tribes from the south came up looking for turquoise. These mines are found near the Colorado river at CA/AZ border.

I've only seen metates that were made in smaller rock. Like you could fit in a backpack these days. Amazing that you found so many in one spot! I've only found arrowheads under trees or like in the shade down where I live in Arizona. Oh I wish I had seen you on RU-vid while I still lived in Tucson. There was so much artifacts there where I lived but I was ignorant of it all at that time there was a big Clay pit above where we lived so there had to be a ton of pottery and it was 365 acres. So there was a lot that could have been found. In the title of your video it said last video in the desert or something like that. I hope that doesn't mean that you're leaving the area!

Book of Hopi says they were farming corn etc since the beginning of time( the reset of humanity on Earth) then Navajo moved in much later (with low sea levels?) primarily animal grazing.

One cardinal rule while in ancestral sites, particularly concerning artifacts and projectile points. Put them right back where they were please. Do not take them home. Moving and placing on nearby rocks removes context of the artifacts, and if you continue to pile artifacts, it makes any future archeological work much harder. And on public/Federal/FS/BLM lands and State Trust Lands, it is illegal to boot. Patayan culture in that area possibly in that area or ancestral Colorado tribes. Not Diné/Navajo as some have suggested here. They were much farther northeast than the Baghdad area. About 250 miles. But a great group of finds!

metate - [ muh-tah-tee; Spanish me-tah-te]. It isnt that difficult to pronounce. Also we have them grinding stones and manos all around my late grandmas homestead. I am Diné (Navajo Nation). In fact we still use them to grind our corn 😊
@candui-7
@candui-7 Год назад
The canyon ruins are where they were hiding from the warlike Navajo tribes apparently. I guess these metates go back earlier than 11.6 kya.

I don’t mean to be presumptuous but it is pronounced “ met tot te” ( not “ma tot”. It is basically a Spanish word. Love your videos!

Why is that a “17 million $ mistake”? Is that he foundation the apartments are on nit stable or is that a flood zone? I very much enjoyed this video. Painted Rock dam area has a lot of this stuff. My husband has a lot of artifacts that he got from his family. He has Choctaw bloodline. His grandma left him many thing from his tribe.

When the peoples lived in that area was there more water available? It just seems futile to live in an arid climate with no coverage.

I know there are marine fossil located near Cedar City, Utah but i'm not sure where. I would start checking the wash areas and small hills.

That round stone was a fossilized dino egg. The line on one end was the hatching exit! Very cool!

LMAO! You'd have to reverse the geology in that area for it to be a dino.

It would be extra helpful to not move things around on the archaeological site. They all have Arizona State site numbers and mapped.
