This welding job was one of the most grueling ones I’ve done to date. It took everything Mr Clean ,Cricket and me had to get it done. With over 26 hours of raw footage and 500+ cuts the edit was just as grueling. I completed this job in January and just got around to sorting through all those hours of welding and fabrication. I hope you enjoy this one and maybe pick a welding tip or too up along the way. I poured my heart into it.
Here’s some of the welding gear I used-
Black stallion FR Jacket -amzn.to/3OtDYWc
Black stallion 1611 welding gloves - amzn.to/3Ir5aB1
Welding neck bib- amzn.to/45eFdi9
Smith
Empire Light up LED level- amzn.to/42VJ5D7
Here’s my Instagram- www.instagram....

What l like about videos of this type is that folk in fabrication or looking to get into onsite welding jobs should consider these an education and advance warning. Education in how tricky jobs can be done and, advance warning of what you might find when you start a job that you didn't see whrn you first looked at it. Another fine installment young man!

I am currently an ironworker and do the same type of Jobs and have found to make life easier to cut in tight quarters where your cutting disk has a high probability of jamming to cut material top down and leave a 1/8th of material then wack it with hammer or use a Sawzall and a Diablo blade. also for the welds in the back corner of the pans to use a torch to feather the welds off , less cutting disk dust and noise. Speaking of the dust for concrete and metal cutting/grinding use a mask 3m 6503q quick latch respirator so you can speak when you want too and not have to rip it away from your face and less black boogers and hacks in the shower after 😂

Good job. Needed to be done, but as rusty as it was i guarantee you these stairs would have been safe to walk on for probably 20-30 years before it actually collapsed. Youd be surprised how little metal it takes to hold weight up. I remembered years ago i guy i worked for had a lowboy and one day after an oversized load he tells me to grease it(i never used it but it was a rainy day), so I'm under there and the ubolts on thr bsck axle are literally 90% gone and it still was abke to hold a 80k lb excavator.

Bro I know how you feel... I did this wood deck for a lady last summer, just a little 15 foot by 10 foot back patio, 2x6 decking, and 2x2 raillings, and a 6 step stair. She wanted it gone, but i figure we just power wash the wore off latex shit paint off of it and stain it properly and shell be good as new! Well fuck me sideways i show up there saturday morning 7am with a rented 4000psi pressure washer, a brand new set of tips i just bought and the paint aint coming off AT ALL. Turns out theres like 3 coats of this shit and the old lady is starting to give me the side eye. So I pack it in and go get the only other thing i can think of, my 35 gallon, double head, 400lbs monster of an air compressor. I plug the beast in with my welder plug adapter where her stove plugs in the kitchen and try my portable sandblaster, LOL NO, im just eating away the wood and making an absolute mess of sand all over this lady's yard and she aint havin it. Its like 1200 at this point, so i go to RONA and get me a 4 inch makita belt grinder, my full face 3m, and extension cord and like the whole stack of 60 grit belts and i go to town on this deck bro. I had to take all the raillings off, old 2x2 dimensional lumber, and rip all 4 sides on my table saw to keep them nice and square, did that 57 times ( i remember how many cause I had to buy a couple extra when i threw them in my van out of anger lol). In the end, took me until 9pm on sunday to get it sanded, stained twice, and pack up all my shit in my van and my truck. But i made a 2k profit in the end, and im still doing jobs for that sweet old lady. Stay safe buddy, and when you coming up North to see how the real men do it???

As you say long days into nights but it's done and dusted and a very enjoyable video 2 great guys to work with makes a great team. Humour and great work ethics makes it a good job . a little tip if you care to learn from guys with more experience. You should add angle clips for each step to rest on and/or simply and quickly just draw out where each step will be on the stringers using a framing square. would take a couple minutes on each stringer to draw out and not much more to add on angle clips if possible/ allowed in the bid, and you'd FLY through the steps part. Stairs is all math. Once you got the math down the rest is a breeze. Well besides the heavy as fuck stringers
@iantripps

I'd love to do a staircase with you in the future. I hang stairs in New York and New Jersey in a union environment. When labor costs are high, technique and preparation are tantamount. Those steps you were talking about you never seen used on stairs like that are called "Precast Concrete Treads" and they suck pretty bad to install as well. Especially if its multiple runs up multiple floors carrying those treads one by one. And fabricating and installing the stringers and pans suck too everything about those types of stairs suck.
