In today's video we head down to the Kipchoge Stadium here in Kenya for my first progression run, as i continue the return to running, following my femoral stress response. I go into a bit more detail as to how I've been able to maintain a good level of fitness throughout this injured period by using the elliptical and bike in the gym- monitoring my training load using the Coros training hub. If you enjoy todays video, please leave a like and consider subscribing for more running related content.

Criminey, Ben: You're bouncing back like a tennis ball! It's so awesome to see, and it's further proof that 1) you're hella strong, and 2) "trust the process" really is solid advice. Onward, brother!

Nice one. V. interesting as usual. Wait until you are my age (74) you'll find all your runs are progressive! 6 decades of runningracing leave the ld legs a bit stiff to start off with and then things strat to flow a bit better. BTW did I miss where you explained the cause of your injury. That is essential to learn from and go forward, isn't it?
@BenIsRunning
@BenIsRunning 6 месяцев назад
Thank you! I'm not sure i mentioned it here on youtube but ultimately an overuse injury. Too much intensity in a short period of time in my training as well as racing to frequently and not respecting recovery periods. Lessons learnt :)

Did you find that you totaled the same number of “hours” per week training with the XT - for example 1 hour easy run = 1 hour easy bike; 1 hour run interval session = 1 hour interval elliptical session??
@BenIsRunning
@BenIsRunning 6 месяцев назад
Hi Lauren, great question. I actually have found that I needed to do a little more in terms of total hours to mimic a similar training load. On bike especially I find that for say an hour easy run I’d need to cycle for an hour and a half. The elliptical is almost a direct 1:1 radio however. That’s what I’ve found anyway over the last 6 weeks

@@BenIsRunning i guess its important to find ur personal miles per week limit. Usually its around 100 km per week (+/- x km) according to noakes (lore of running).
@midlandmatt
@midlandmatt 6 месяцев назад
Have you heard of the general rule of increasing weekly mileage by no more than 10%.... that's on good legs not recovering from injury ..take it easy to avoid bigger setbacks

The femur is actually considered a low risk due to the size of the bone unlike say a sacrum. Given my injury and symptoms personal to me, I'm confident I'm progressing things at the right rate as i return to running. Appreciate your concerns.

Big fan Ben but personally I think you’re jumping the gun a bit mate, listen to what Callum was saying on the podcast. I think you may see this injury reoccurring
@BenIsRunning
@BenIsRunning 6 месяцев назад
Appreciate your concerns but it has been 7 weeks now and been pain free for the last 5. I personally don't see it as a big risk and have taken all the rehab measures until this point with great caution. Returning from any injury brings a degree of risk but theres only so long you can sit on the sidelines. If my body is responding well, that's more than enough reassurance that I'm progressing at the right rate.

@BenIsRunning
@BenIsRunning 6 месяцев назад
Recovering from a bone injury isn’t something that will necessarily be 100% for a number of months. I’ve taken the required time off and am now building things back gradually which is important to do in order to load the previously injured area.
