Kip Keino won TWO Olympic golds; 1500 in 1968 and 3000sc in 1972. He won golds at the 1966 Commonwealth Games - mile and three mile (imperial distances then) - and gold in the 1970 Games in Edinburgh at 1500. He set a world record for 3000 (7:39 I think) that lasted a very long time. Olympic silvers in 5000 in 1968 and 1500 in 1972. His Olympic gold in 1968 was won in 3:34.9 at altitude in Mexico City. Fantastic run, lasted as the Olympic record until Seb Coe broke it in 1984. Keino was an incredible runner, not often mentioned when discussions of the GOAT take place - but he should be!

Important thing: if you would like to include such workouts into your training, adjust number of repeats and recovery time according to your possibilities. E.g. for 1k reps, Kipchoge's recovery time is 90s which is roughly is half time of his 3:00/km. So if you do 1k intervals e.g. for 3:30/km, then your recovery time should be at least 105 seconds.

Hi Ben love the channel and hope you can get running again soon! I would love to go on one of these Kenyan camps, however I'm a pretty average runner compared to you guys (1:25 Half) albeit improving quickly now im taking things more seriously. . Is it still worth it for me to experience it looks incredible?
@BenIsRunning

Although Iten is full of world class athletes training at the highest level there is also a huge industry for those wanting simply to experience this. There are probably more recreational runners training here in Iten currently than the pros so I’d highly recommend a visit regardless of ability. My girlfriend Meg is very new to running and she still enjoyed her trip :)

I heard somewhere that its the carbon super shoes that causes people to get stress fractures in the femur n those areas. 😢 Get well Ben ❤

It's my understanding, that yes, they can be harder on your body, BUT they aren't used for very many runs. Primarily for race efforts only, maybe some speedwork sessions. In general, a runner should have more than enough bodily fitness and health built up to not be affected by such a minor thing. Definitely don't do all your runs in them though
@BenIsRunning
@BenIsRunning 9 месяцев назад
I’ll definitely be limiting my use upon my return but not the main factor that I believed caused my issue. More so the intensity of my training over a period with not enough respect given to recovery

@@BenIsRunning be patient. I think deena castors coach (or it was from the book "running on the edge"..) said that the most important skill in running (training) is patience. And it reminds me of the song by my all time favorite band guns n Roses....

@@litergod the theory was that the shoes takes load off from the lower legs n instead increase the load on other parts (higher up) in the body. Im not too well informed about the theory but def worth paying attention to.

I hope that through this experience with injury you can at least come away with more confidence with cross training, as it is very helpful to include in your normal training as well.

@@BenIsRunning Speaking of which, the winner of the women's NCAA cross country championships today said in an interview that she only runs 2-3 times per week, and cross trains (mainly using a device called an arc trainer) the rest of the week. More proof of the power of cross training!
