12-HOUR KARATE SEMINAR AT TAEKWONDO SCHOOL - Jesse Enkamp 

I love this. A lot of people are too busy trying to argue which fighting style is better. But at the end of the day, we are all martial artists we are more similar than most people think.

Its refreshing to see karatekas, and members of WTF and ITF taekwondo (and many other styles) in one dojang, all learning together. I do ITF, but I do believe that every martial art has something to offer. Rivalry between styles is dumb. Lets be open minded !

Karate in taekwondo school? I'm hooked already 😊

As a Korean, I can shed some light on the loyalty aspect based on my experience. It is from the place of loyalty; time and experience are the greatest teachers. Time teaches you patience regardless of how well you relate with the boss or coworker. Experience teaches you to adapt and through that growth, you gain a skill you can use later on. When working together, both will teach you reflect on the reason and strength of your loyalty.

I study Thai/Kickboxing and BJJ and always thought karate was a bit 'hit and miss'. But that elbow lock was nasty. Some might say "if its so effective then why isn't it used in MMA?" because if that was applied to a resistant opponent, their shoulder or elbow would pop straight away. That takedown was pretty sweet as well. Keep up the good work! Oss

Great! I am 66yrs old and started Martial arts at 18yrs old. I first studied Wing Chun for 6 years or so and then studied TKD for around 14 yrs reaching 3rd Dan. I then went to live in India, staying for 20yrs! I carried on martial arts but became a Yoga student, one on one with my Guru for 90mins a day. I love Yoga as much as Martial Arts now! I recently, at 66yrs old, discovered a great local Shotokan club and have started learning at this club as a white belt. I believe all martial arts are good to train in for health and fitness as well as self-defence and that it's often the Man or Woman and not the art that's most important. I still do daily Yoga and respect all Martial Arts and all serious Martial Arts teachers and Students! OSU!

Seriously, super interesting! The best part of your videos are that they often have such a fantastic blend of philosophy and practical application of techniques. It makes me miss being part of the karate community and at the same time it makes me realize in what ways my dojo was lacking.

back in 1972 my sparring partner was a black belt in Isshinryu and i was in Taekwondo. I learned to respect that style. Short punches and I learned about utilizing rom the hip to the tips of my knuckle from this guy.

I can't believe I'm just seeing this video. This is what I tried to do from 1995-2010. I started off my Martial Arts career in Korean arts (Tae Kwon Do and Tang Soo Do). When I found Isshin Ryu Karate was when I really was taught about Bunkai application. I went deep into Bunkai and all I thought of was helping my Korean roots. I taught a couple body mechanic/self defense/reaction drill seminars at Korean dojangs but was not well received. I simply tried to help them be better but was shunned in the local martial arts community. I got extremely disheartened. That combined with close minded people, extra large egos, MMA practitioners not wanting to learn traditional Karate and my health issues, I lost my desire to continue and didn't have the money to get surgery for my health issues. You Mr. Enkamp are my hero, brother never stop living your dream. I wish I could collaborate and train with you. We could learn so much from each other. I am glad to see you had better luck than I and I truly believe Karate is making a comeback partly if not largely because of you. I'm trying to get my MOJO back before I get to old but money for surgery us a big factor. By the way your hair looked really good coming down the escalator, lol!

@Jesse Enkamp So fantastic to see this! I began my journey in the martial arts in Taekwondo. I wrote a research thesis on the origins of Taekwondo found in Shotokan and Chinese Martial Arts (Gweon Byop). I then studied Shotokan Karatedo for several years after that and have since training in Kenpo Karate-jutsu ever since! I appreciate all that you do and have learned a lot from you! Thanks!

When there is exchange in martial arts, fighting can be avoided, friendship is built. Always wonderful to see such martial artists

I loved this video. It warms my heart to see so many practitioners from different TKD styles being open-minded enough to learn from you. People are always arguing whether ITF or WTF is the best and true TKD federation. During this seminar all that trivial politic bullshit didn't matter. They were just martial artists like everyone else who were craving for more knowledge and ways to improve themselves. And karate is perfect for that. After all, if a Taekwondoin wants to learn about the roots of TKD then there's no better place to be than traditional karate.

I am absolutely impressed. This collaboration about teaching and learning is a very refined action.

I really love this. I truly believe that "karate" training can only enhance one's understanding of Taekwondo. After all, Taekwondo's roots are largely influenced by Shotokan. And from the short time I spent in Goju-ryu, I can say it made my Taekwondo better. And in fact, if people are interested in taking Taekwondo for self-defense reasons, I usually encourage them to pursue a good Karate school. Because the two arts are similar enough to where the person would still enjoy it, and I have found (unfortunately) it's easier to find a Karate school focused on self-defense than a Taekwondo school.

soooo nice to see taekwondo-kas following your instructions and i its also nice to see so many different other style and sharing passion. soooo daaaaaamn nice! ive started tkd 10-11 years from now and as i started every dude told me, that they dont want any other styles (and i cam from shotokan and practice it 9 yrs or so and i see soooo many things they share and they didnt see that and didnt want to see that). i wish i was there... looks sooo good and i hope everyone has enjoyed this seminar. for me its much more than one dude teachs others. iits more like breaking some lines and spread some knowledge. soooo good! i hope some other dojangs book you for seminars and bring all types of styles together. rly good! thx for sharing this and much more thx for doing those things. i know soooo much self called "masters" that woud never cross that line and im so happy that you doing this! great!

I like your videos Sensei. It's refreshing to see people involved in different styles training together. I believe that this Integration can teach us all how similar we are rather than fuel the ridiculous debte about which style is the best. I'm a KARATE practioner but I admire TKD they have great kicking techniques. There is much we can all learn from each other.

Nice to see the exchange of ideas between karate and taekwondo. i personally look at the concepts and training methods of other martial arts and incorporate it into my training. We can learn from eachother. There is no martial art, who is perfect or complete. Its kind of interesting, how different the philosophy and point of view from differents countrys are. In china it was very common that after ending your learning with one master, he would send you to the next master to learn a different style so you can complete your training. There is nothing like the ultimate martial art . thats why its important to have an exchange from ideas and principles from the martial arts. :)

That looked awesome! It really looked like everyone had a great time and learned a lot! Patterns/Kata/Tul have always fascinated me so much, both in terms of pure learning, and the applications. I'd love to learn some Karate forms at some point; to add to the Chang Hon forms that I already know and practice.

People keep argueing over and over again on which martial art is good. mostly they say taekwondo is the worst but comparing doesn't do anything. Honestly I watch this channel very very often and I watch every video again. You make the great work keep it up. You are the real karate champion!

Hi sensei Jesse :) Im into training for about 25 years starting by learning boxe and kickboxing. I did not like to hit people but I didnt know why. Then I moved to martial arts. Bang, the one true way, for me, to become a greater person, a better human being. Ive watched your videos and I relate so much with your philosophy. Jesse respects karate traditions in a POSITIVE way, yet he avoids the narrow outlook which can be the DOWN side of traditionalism. I went to college in Baltimore but spent the summers home with my parents in the New York suburbs. So for my summer training I returned to my high school Kyokushin school. That first summer Shigeru Oyama was open minded toward my Baltimore Taekwondo. But the next summer the new Sensei was 20 years old, fresh from Japan, and - I was to learn - narrow minded. I proudly and naively told this Sensei that I did Taekwondo during the school year, and I proudly recited the names of my hyongs (katas) NOT KNOWING that they were named after Koreans who RESISTED THE JAPANESE in World War 2. My gaff resulted in a black and purple thigh for me.

Very nice. Not the usual Tae Kwon Do class. Nobody was throwing those high kicks. I’m a karate guy, and the classes you guys do always seem more fun than mine, and I have the bruises to prove it. Sweden and Norway seem like great places to learn-except I hate cold weather. Nice video. Keep it up.

Awesome video!! What you said near the end of the video is so true. I used to practice taekwondo before I started karate and while they have taken kicking to a wholly excellent level it is important to train differently because I think they(taekwondo dudes/dudettes) lack in other areas. BTW great music!

Greetings of the day Sensei ! Oss ! I liked the seminar at taekwondo club there , and you where telling while being with taekwondo sensi that in Japan people stay in only one dojo , it's not just in japan but it is there in entire Asia, I am not being offensive , I am trying to clarify the system here is that we have a Guru parampara , we never leave a Guru ( a Guru means dispeller of darkness , a guru is more than a teacher , we respect a Guru equivalent to God ) who has initiated us in some Yogic or Martial Arts system , this culture teaches never forget the path that we came , and by heart felt reverence we never forget our Guru who has lifted us from who we were to who we are now ( through his / her teachings / techniques ) . By practicing the teachings and propagating his teachings we slowly become his disciples .. so this a Spiritual system that helps a person to evolve by practicing a particular technique ( that is known as a Sadhana ) that I have commented before that Karate is not just self defense and fighting, it is just the outer shell , it has a deep inner dimension which is Spirituality . This is the difference between Asian and Western culture , now the time has come , the westerners have to dig in the path of Spirituality, the body that we see is only the outer periphery, beyond this body there is deeper inner dimension to explore .. Without experiencing it you may not understand the system ... Hope you may got the point what I meant. Namaste !

Very cool, looks like that was a Ji Do Kwan Tae Kwon Do flag in that school. Ji Do Kwan is one of the orginal kwans that came together to form tae kwon do.... (and my style :))

Im a white belt transitioning into a halfway white yellow belt in tkd and i do kickboxing and ive been studying self defense for at least five years now one of the first things ive learned from my sensei is to expand your knowledge and sometimes its about the person not the style and how affective you are in and people don't understand they might be good at karate but better at mma or good at bjj but better at Muay Thai you never know just saying
