Westphal was a great combo-guard with play-making abilities, a good outside shot, very good moves, deft passing, and a quick first step. Again, his stats during that 5-year period are 23 ppg, 6 apg, 1.8 spg, and he shot 52%. He was also very good defensively.

Reggie Theus is tied to MJ: A. He is dating Juanita Jordan (MJ's ex-wife) B. He lead the Bulls to some aweful records allowing Krause to draft MJ C. Michael Jordan got revenge on Reggie Theus for saying a rookie couldn't replace him in Chicago. Michael said “Just Tell Reggie That I’m Going To Get 45 Tonight.” MJ ended up with 43 points... His 1st "Revenge Game" ;-)

R.I.P. Zelmo Beaty, Kevin Duckworth, Bob Kauffman, Jimmy Walker, an Paul Westphal. Jimmy Walker is/was the father of former NBA player, Jalen Rose...🙏🏼...

Yes, his biological father. There’s an all-star game on RU-vid where you can see Jimmy Walker play (not sure if it’s 1972 or 1973).

That last segment was crazy. Tom Van Arsdale scored over 14k points and played in 900+ NBA games, never to play a single playoff game? What a waste of talent! It obviously reinforces that front office leadership counts.

I'm 58 years old & when I was a kid trying to play ball along with John Drew & Rickie Sobers & Charlie Scott, Paul Westphal was probably my favorite player...those Suns teams couldn't get past the Sonics or Lakers but they were great to watch...also they had the 'Greyhound'. Great stuff man!

Where did you play against these guys? I lived in Houston for quite awhile and Moses Malone would work out at the Fonde Recreation Center, and would be joined by fellow NBA players. It's also where Moses schooled Olajuwon on how to score and board in the paint. Players from nearly every modern era, from Elvis Hayes to James Harden, worked out there. I watched Moses play against Dwight Jones, Otis Birdsong, Larry Kenon, George Gervin and a couple of NBA guys I can't remember one Saturday in the summer of 1982. No A/C, just a lot of huge fans moving the air around. We didn't bring water and regretted it because the soda machines were empty or not working. The NBA was still a niche sport back then, and wouldn't really take off until the first Celtics-Lakers finals of that era in 1984. Still, I enjoyed that late 1970s to mid-1990s period more than any other in league history. Places like Fonde are part of the reason why.

How could I have played against these guts...I was a kid...I never played against any of them...I was a young teenager admiring them...trying to play like them...never wrote that I played against anyone in the NBA...never...I did cover the NBA (Cavs-98-01 WKNR) for 3 seasons although...you can look that up.
@carlbenson6412
@carlbenson6412 Год назад
I apologize if some folks reading perceived what I wrote as deceptive...no intention there...I just love someone appreciating my heroes of the NBA in an era that is unfairly vilified as the 1970's era was...the pre-Magic/Bird era.

Sorry to say it, but Kevin Duckworth might always be remembered as not being Arvydas Sabonis... The Blazers held his rights, after drafting him, but weren't able to convince him to join them, after the opening of the iron curtain. And having a younger and healthier Sabonis team up with and pass to Clyde Drexler, Terry Porter and the rest of that team, would have been both an awesome sight and an even greater challenge for the Bulls in 91 and 92!
