VERY surprising little home with SO much left inside and in pretty good shape!
And yes, we partially set the table after we explored the house! Lol.

Nancy Maschio I’m glad you saw and heard what I did...lol! I felt ancient listening to their comments, but it made me laugh too. I once told my mother an old lady held me up, she asked me, “How old do you think she was?”. I replied: “ In her 50’s.”. She said: “ My dear how old are you.”. I started laughing out loud because I had to answer my darling mother and say “49”! We both had a good laugh over that....Wait until Rick and Bekka are in their 40’s and their kids think that’s old!!! 🤣

My great grand mother's house was like this. My uncles all went to war. They all lived there one time or another. It fell to ruin after she died. They all lived with other family members in their old age. Actually I visited when it had been abandoned the old smiley face clock behind the wood cooking stove ticked and hummed for a few seconds. No electricity and no batteries. The house is so similar it blows my mind. Maybe it had the same story. I love this. I can see her now in the kitchen making biscuits. So cool.

Okay young ones I don't think you realize what you have stumbled across this particular house is called a shotgun house used back during the Depression for housing workers with low income this particular house was built in the late 1900s the furniture wa 1950s the wood stoves from 1911 to 1950 judging from your video this particular shotgun house looks and appears like it was moved from one spot to another a very rare and awesome timepiece guys I do believe at one point that it was probably used for some storage back in around 2000 judging for where everything was placed probably was stop being used as early is the 1980s judging from the Decay and where and rot that I seen in the video also young once it would be into your best interest if you are going to venture into a particular place like this one to wear a mask because back then they use things like lead paint and asbestos that you guys really don't need to be breathing in while you are exploring just a suggestion.. awesome video

jonny bolt when the paint was new and not chipping and flaming off, it wasn’t as big of a problem. No matter what, breathing in old dust and crap in old buildings can’t be good for anyone.

Aha! Another historian of the old ways. :) I was thinking the wood cook stove was closer to 1900 because of the colour and the ornate side supports of the warming ovens. That coal/wood stove cost a pretty penny in it's day, almost equal to what it would cost to buy it now I would think.

The house and its contains are soooooooo 70's, I grew up playing with paper dolls, listening to the radio, reading and writing a lot. I miss those days, sorrounded by the family, after a hard day of work, we used to enjoy delicious hot soups and tea.....I was forgetting the outer house, if the bathroom has to holes 😳😳sometimes when kids were scare the sister or sister or cousin used to go together.

This was a fun find. That wood cook stove would bring between one and two thousand dollars and the wood heating stove is about 3 hundred. When my family moved from Iowa to Missouri we had a heating stove like that one. It would work with coal or wood depending on what grate was inside. That old stove nearly let us freeze. Not a very good one at all but we could see the flames through the little windows in the door. Thanks for the share.

You guys must not smoke. The first thing I noticed in the medicine cabinet was the pack of Kent cigarettes, and I'm a retired doctor! I really like when Bekah actually narrates the house and Rick does 📷. Just that her voice is so soothing. And you're always loud.
@504RoadTrips
@504RoadTrips 6 лет назад
Kent drastically changed their packaging design in the mid-1990s. I still have a full unopened pack like that one. When they first started making them in the early 1960s, they used asbestos in their "famous Micronite filter". That didn't work out so well for them.

Rick … No testing old products; even syrup could have bacteria in it! I think there was a Revere Ware tea kettle in the kitchen near the window. The kitchen chairs appear to be antiques. @paulanull8731
@paulanull8731 6 лет назад
IMO the way the glasses and dishes etc. were arranged and the newer newspaper indicates some one has been there packing up things to remove to another location. I am amazed the handles for the wood stove are still there sitting on the table. Frequently they get misplaced somehow in my experience cooking on the dang things. The stove is a real gem too. Bet it still would work and bake too. The scullery or dish washing area is amazing. That sink is old-old and wonderful I'd guess late 1800's/ Victorian piece. By the way never ever taste stuff from any house unless you know exactly when, where and how it came to be there. Not even your best friend's (besides you best ask before tasting). Syrups were often were mixed with bug poison to set traps to kill them. Everyone in the household knew about it so it wasn't a danger.
@ExploringwithRickBekah
@ExploringwithRickBekah 6 лет назад
So the syrup could be poisonous??
@paulanull8731
@paulanull8731 6 лет назад
I grew up where things like this were done but everyone knew so it was not a concern. (Those good old times folks like to talk about carried some risks.) I caution people to not taste test items that can harm them. Old places from those times require caution. So, in a word, yes.
@jimmyfortrue3741
@jimmyfortrue3741 5 лет назад
Yeah.. in the 1970's I knew an old lady who kept a jar of molasses mixed with some poison for the cockroaches that invaded her house after her brother moved a few boxes of his from the city. It took a few months but she did manage to get rid of ALL the cockroaches with that method. She would pour a bit into a saucer and put it under the sink... Jar went on the top highest shelf in the back corner. And she warned every visitor to her home.

Neat house! That "spotlight" Rick was a lamp that hung on the wall. Newer Wallpaper about the 70's. Would've been curious about the clothes in closet. Vintage perhaps. I was also curious about the coal heater. A more recent pine log box was in the kitchen. Looks like maybe a "passer thru " had used the place maybe when it was colder. Shotgun houses were used for railroad people a lot. Don't know if there was a RR track nearby. Enjoyed!

I can’t get over how big this shotgun house really was. I grew up in a 1 bedroom home as a young kid with 3 siblings and my parent’s sharing a bedroom. I shared a crib with my baby brother. We had a one hole outhouse, and used a slop pail at night, I’m not an old woman either. I’m under 60. I know even that sounds old to you young kids. I loved the blue wallpaper in the back bedroom, how I wish my old home had that wallpaper on my bedroom walls. You just never know what kind of gems your going to find. I’m drawn to this house. I’d say it’s roughly 12’x 42’ including the pantry and mud room. Love the stove in the middle room. I’ve watched this video half a dozen times and keep seeing new details. You noticed the “main and range “ fuse box. Just the way everything is kind of mismatched is appealing. Love the sink and both ranges the wallpaper and linoleum. I know this place is gone; if only they kept the roof up. A nice piece of level ground too. I see so many places like this, not just houses, but barns, garages, and outbuildings in general, just moldering away. Thank you for showing these places, be safe.

Loved the now illegal set of lawn darts, maybe they all killed each other off with them! Lol. Nice explore and thumbs up!

Can't let a girl see magazines with naked women in them for some strange reason but he walks around farting akk over the place. Seems like the kind of guy that likes to give orders. Did you see that at the end when he thought someone else was there? He was gonna take off and leave her.

That's why we always ask permission first before we go in a house. Usually there is always a family that owns the house but don't use it nearby. Then you don't have to worry if someone shows up but if you didn't you can get in a lot of trouble. It is trespassing.

The lovely old wooden toilets! My grandparents had them in their back yard on their farm. Granny would put the ash from the fires down them and a man would come round with his horse and cart and collect it to be used as manure on the land. And this is only about 55 year ago.

I love your videos, you two are my favorite channel for exploring old houses. I like how Rick takes the time to did and I love how Bekah takes her time to capture everything. Sometimes I do think Rick makes he hurry though. I have to say this was a great find but I was disappointed at the picture in the end. You guys disturbed the dining table and staged it. Not cool, it's the one thing I've always loved about you guys because you never did that and so mant explorers do. Also the Bayer bottle wasn't in the medic ent cabinet anymore at the last still shots. 😔

We staged it and put that in description. It was for fun. We didn’t act like it was that way so didn’t see any harm in it.
