Holly shit. I went to Purdue and hit the Knickerbocker countless times. Seems you had an encounter with some Frat shenanigans. Thanks for the unexpected nostalgia. Its interesting to see how you both easily shrug off things like not using the fridge to save power. The boat life has made you tough. Many RV'ers could just not handle that. New subscriber, love the vids.

Love the videos! Tate - in response to RV's parking next to you in Parking lot. - It's the truck driver mentality. Most people think they need to keep their RV's with the other RV's and not spread out all over the place taking up car spots.

Make sure you hit up the Black Hills of ND also! You will be way to early in the season for Montana, Wyoming, or Colorado mountains. Many of the passes will still be closed. Make sure you veryify before you head out each day. I'm looking at getting a Class C and tow my Motorycle behind next year. Another great video!

Hey John! We are thinking of seeing the Black Hills after Badlands but I believe it's in South Dakota. We don't yet plan to do Wyoming etc...where are we going next?? To be revealed in the next video:) Why a Class C and not a Class A? We LOVE the motorcycle...this trip wouldn't be nearly as fun!!

That's ok..there's actually a TON of debate even among sailors about the treatment of eggs. We just know what we've done. Please don't hold back if you see us doing something stupid!

Seeing streams and creeks in your videos makes me want to do some fly fishing. Are you doing any fishing on your journey or are you tired of fish after all that sailing?
@Sundownersailsagain

I am not really a pole fisher, just spear fishing. I might try to hookup with some local spearos on the west coast when we get there.

Doesn't your 'fridge' work with Propane ? ? Propane should be a Very efficient fuel and the way refrigeration was originally designed to work.

Yea low oil prices good for the wallet but bad for thousands those who have been laid off around Houston. Safe travels

I know!! It's really sad for all those in the industry. We know many people in Louisiana as well who haven't fared well. What's good for some isn't good for others.

That camera set up lol :P , whatever works right? :D also doesn't the fridge run ok on propane? i see so many RVers using propane to run their fridges , also what kinda MPG does the motorcycle get? LOL great vid again guys! :D

Hi! I love the head thing, lol. Now I don't go grocery shopping or out to dinner with it on but you know. The fridge does run on propane but really we are cheap amd try to save where possible. See below for more in depth explanation.

I find your lack of using refrigeration /AC odd. The systems run on either gas or electric as you know. is there a reason why you don't use it? My wife and I We have a Toyhauler and our Harley travels with us too which is great, Also Why don't you travel to the many nice state or federal RV parks/campsites for a reason? They all have 30/50 amp services along with water and sewer. Thanks for answering in advance. Love the videos and watching your travels

@Sundownersailsagain 7 лет назад
+Bill H Hi Bill. We pretty much enjoy living off the grid and not in pay for camp grounds so the parks with power are a no go for us. We don't really have any income, we are living off our savings and the country has plenty of free and beautiful places to park. We spent almost 10 months in the RV and never paid for a nights stay. So with that in mind the fridge and ac draw power and we didn't outfit the rv with a big battery bank. Just enough for charging and led lights. The fridge probably could have run in propane fine but I guess we like punishment, lol. We are currently back aboard our sailboat floating near tropical islands with 500 watts of solar, led lights, hand pumps for water and a hot water kettle for hot water. We can stay for a long time.off the grid this way, which we prefer. But staying at camps and parks is also nove if you want that and have the money. Thanks for stopping by.

OMG, you don't run the LP fridge? That makes no sense guys! That Norcold will run for well over a month along with your other LP gas needs for cooking and hot water. Probably two months if you don't use the furnace. You do know that it runs on propane and that you can run it while underway, right? They use VERY little DC power when boon docking. When set to auto it will run off AC when you plug in to power too.

Went out for a great hike this morning...Honestly we don't have enough stuff to refrigerate to make the usage worth it especially when we are traveling in the cold climates at the moment and not knowing how long we'll be out far away from propane. Tate had read about the fridge being efficient and said we could use it but honestly the easy storage space is more valuable to me and we didnt want to run into issues where the perhaps the propane would run out, malfunction or the batteries would die leaving us to deal with food defrosting/spoiling. Also we are super cheap where we can be and we bought the Yeti used for $250 so we save the propane fill ups when we can. Thanks for looking out for us!! We appreciate any advice as we are new RVers.
@DownInTheIslands
@DownInTheIslands 8 лет назад
+Don Leamon I agree. I have had a few campers over the years and have run the fridge and freezer off of propane for months off of one tank. Its the most efficient appliance in an RV or camper. The furnace is what really sucks the battery and propane. You could run your fridge for years off of $250 in propane.

Ok, For the price of that yeti cooler you probably could have bought a nice efficient 12v fridge am I right? I'm starting to get sundowner withdrawals, LOL..Maybe if you put on some PFD harness's my withdrawals will go away. Is yosemite in your plans?
@donleamon8653
@donleamon8653 8 лет назад
+John Gerhart That Norcold fridge in the coach runs off of LP gas OR AC shore power. It uses hardly any DC power when off grid. I'm still just scratching my head on this one. Hope they respond. :-) And no, a decent 12v overlanding fridge/freezer like Engle, ARB or National Luna will be closer to $1,000. But for the price of that Yeti they could probably run that gas fridge for well over a year.
@Sundownersailsagain
@Sundownersailsagain 8 лет назад
Hi John! We bought the Yeti used for $250. We considered getting an Engle like we have on the boat but they are roughly $1,000 and ours drew 50 amps a day onboard. This would mean that we'd have to set up a bigger house bank for the batteries powered by the solar panels and we didn't want to spend any more money than we needed to. On the boat a couple of cloudy days and we'd have to turn the fridge off...And we had 4 giant batteries then. We just went with the easy and cheapest route:) Also this trip is only till the end of the year so we dont need it to be whole hog. Don't worry Sundowner is fine.
@Sundownersailsagain
@Sundownersailsagain 8 лет назад
+Don Leamon BUT...we can resell the Yeti but can't resell the used propane;)
@donleamon8653
@donleamon8653 8 лет назад
+Sundowner Sails Again 😀 OK you got me there, but of all the things on an RV, the fridge is probably the most efficient. You could still keep dry goods in there as most stuff is fine with lower temps anyway. I lived full time in a 28' trailer for over a year on site when we were building our new home. I don't think I went through a LP tank a month for running everything off grid. LP is the best bang for your buck compared to all the other RV costs! Safe travels and umm fair roads?
@Sundownersailsagain
@Sundownersailsagain 8 лет назад
+Don Leamon Haha, true! But fulling up the propane is about $20 and with our free income around $700 right now we'd rather save it of possible and eat at wafflehouse twice
@tjpanbiker4135
@tjpanbiker4135 8 лет назад
you might want to rethink not refrigerating your eggs.
@Sundownersailsagain
@Sundownersailsagain 8 лет назад
We have lots of experience not refrigerating eggs. Whether they have been refrigerated before or not. Every two days you flip them to keep the inner shell lubricated and air tight, also you should smell them and put them in a glass of water to make sure they don't float before you eat them if they are questionable.
