She tells you exactly how to mix this in other videos. The pouring medium is 65% glue to 35% water. Measure that out and mix it in a big container so you have a bunch of it. The ratio of paint to pouring medium is 50/50 so take a cup and pour some paint in it and then add the same amount of the pouring medium you just made up. Mix it nice and good with a wooden stir stick of some kind. Mix until it pours off your stick like cream. If it falls too fast it's too thin and add some more pouring medium. If it falls too slow it's too thick so add some water. Again it should pour off your stick like cream. For those size cups she adds 5 drops of silicone oil. Mix well so it get incorporated into the paints. I usually layer with my paints held higher than this but I'm going to change how I do it now because of watching these videos. I think pouring from a lower height causes less mixing and less chance of the paints turning muddy ( the higher your pour into the cups the more it will blend and possibly become muddy) Also her choice of colours gives less chance of things turning muddy. The similar the colours the more chance of muddy mix. Also the order in which you layer the paints in the cups is important. Let's say you don't want green in your mix yet you poured blue over yellow you ARE going to get green. Trust me lol. Also after watching this I'm going to torch less. I've been torching WAY too much and not getting the nice formed cells like this. I mean mine are nice but they could be better like these. Too much tilting and you are going to get stretched out wobbly cells and you'll cry a boat load of tears. It's all about experimenting and just trying over and over till you get it right. Start with cheap paints and glue and water like I did. The fun is in the process and I learned so much already from this video Julie and I've been pouring for quite awhile. Subscribed and an addicted follower now :)
I’ve done some pouring not a lot I noticed that you get more bubbles if you pour from a height. Thinner paint ie:craft type doesn’t need a lot of water added you should start with smaller sizes and work up to larger I find I use a lot of dark colours blues , dark greens etc.,
Thank you! That was clear! I’m just starting. Very nervous as I have to do a big project for my new kitchen using the colours I used for painting dining chairs. Enjoying the great pours. Thank you for the great demos!
I literally had no idea about acrylic pours until about a half hour ago. WOW!!! This looks like so much fun, awesome video and awesome painting! This is the most exciting discovery I’ve found in ages on RU-vid!
you can just eyeball it, there's not an 'exact amount'. the purpose of the glue and water is to condition the paint, so that it can be diluted somewhat and still not break down.. it also doesn't weaken the pigments (the color) in the paints very much. some swear it gives them cells using it alone.. f you make too much of the glue and water mixture, its okay. it holds well in a sealed jar. make sure you wipe the rim well after pouring it out or you will have the worlds most boring aquarium filled with glue. lol. i make it by the half gallon and i've never had an issue. you can also save paints not used completely in sealed containers... i buy specimen cups off of amazon (they are the cups you pee in at the doctor if you have bladder infection.. they are semi opaque and have screw on lids, i love em. i used to use the little souffle cups that you would get salad dressing or something in if you ordered take out. you can buy those on amazon as well, or if you have a dollar tree store you can find them in the wedding section with silver ware, etc. good luck. don't be scared, its all trial and error. its fun.
Nina Kozak welcome aboard! My husband and I started doing this about a month ago and now we're hooked! In fact, we were watching Julie's videos when we did our first pours. Have fun!!
THANK YOU! I have gone through an enormous amount of paint. Think, thick, glue, water, flotrol and flopped every single time getting cells. Watching you, I FINALLY GOT CELLS! AND KEPT THEM! You Rock!!!!
That really is beautiful and you can praise and celebrate it all you want! There isn’t one of us who love this medium that won’t understand your excitement, and and who are praying for the same results. Loved every minute!
Ariel Phoenix: yes! this is new to me also! Im a scrapbook gal and came along these "pouring" videos! my law is on the floor too! ha ha. I watched this thinking how on earth is this going to look cool when she poured it into a cup first? ha ha-
I love your patter. So refreshing to have someone who is a natural extrovert and teacher explain everything so thoroughly but without boring one to tears. Five stars.
Amazing. . . i've watched thousands of pouring vids and your video is wonderful. So inspiring. Your technique and communication is superior to so many. You made me smile and filled me with joy as I watched. Thankyou....You Rock...Keep up the good work x
This is a stunning picture! I was very encouraged by your comment that you have been pouring for 2 years, and this was the first time you achieved this look! I’ve been very focussed the last month or so on trying different “recipes” for pouring - it’s quite a learning curve! Thank you for sharing your techniques.
It IS AMAZING!!!!!!!! Im glad ur finally rewarded w/the look u've been trying to get for the last 2 yrs...& that we were some of the fortunate ones to be able to experience it w/u!!! I don't think ur bragging or ranting. U DESERVE to be proud!!!!!! And...purple even behave himself for this!!!!!!😂😂 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks for the info on the medium. I'm in Cairns and getting all the US mediums takes weeks. Going to try the wood glue with water as medium. I got silicone wd40 which is supposed to do the same trick. I've tried acrylics before but love pouring as a style. Just got back from the shops with all my supplies and going to give it a go with the wife and kids. If we can get anything even remotely close to this I'll be happy. Big love from the far north. 😀
That pour was awesome. The colors are beautiful and vibrant. And the cells have many colors and layers to them. Absolutely gorgeous painting. I can't wait to try. ❤️
This is beautiful! Some of my best pours were done with just glue and water, I'm in Canada. I use the acid free Mod Podge gloss and they dry with a shine. If they're ones I've kept, I've gotten away so far without varnishing them 😆 I also like to experiment with homemade pouring mediums and I find the glue helps hold cells together so you can stretch them and still have some background colour. I love your colour choices and how they didn't get muddy 🙂
Beatifull.... I wish I could get these cells. Do you add silicone ?? Sorry if you mentiobes it, but today I have a bad internet connection and miss some of your talking.. Thanks for sharing and showing
What kind of glue do you use? I'm in Canada as well, Kingston Ont. and can't get flotron, so I have experimented with different things to get brilliant cells but am having trouble. What kind or brand of silicone do you use?
cwmerman You're welcome to join our group for beginners it's called Acrylic Pouring and Fluid Art Nova Scotia on Facebook. People share tips and answer questions. You can get Floetrol in Canada at Dulux stores, unless you don't have one nearby you can try Elmers Glue all, Mod Podge is a bit more expensive.
Hi! I'm from Pakistan and sadly I am unable to find floetrol from anywhere.. Can i just use glue and water as a pouring medium? I'm a beginner never tried pouring.. Another question please😂.. Can we use oil paints? What's their procedure?
Thank you so much for doing this video. Floetrol is crazy expensive here, so I was looking for an alternative. I'd heard about using glue, but never got a satisfying explanation on what and how. This video gave me so much information. Also, that's quite a stunning piece. Painting goals!
This one is gorgeous, I can see why it's your favorite.. nice clusters of good cells floating on a background.. very beautiful! Love this piece, especially that blue river between the pink and black.. well done Julie!! ❤️👏👏👏
I live in the UK and just spent £22 on 1L floetrol to start with fluid art. I wish I knew that before 😂😂😂 Beautiful piece, thank you for explaining all of it so well! I love your channel and your art!
Omgoodness Julie, I LOVE THIS! I am almost speechless, but have so much I want to say...lol! I have been trying everything and poof after 2 years you find “THE” formula! With results that are stunning and so beautiful! I can only imagine how happy you are bc I watched this twice in complete awe! CONGRATULATIONS, my friend!💜I cannot wait to try! Thank you so much for sharing!
Bluebear Artz I did a really pretty one, turned out exactly how I hoped, then I went to the store while it dried and came back to find a paw print right in the middle of the white butterfly design I did and my cat with paint on her toes
Repunsel Rose same thing happened to me a year ago with my first one. I had it drying in the bathroom away from my cats, and my ex husband accidentally left the door open when he was going to work. So there’s a little kitten paw print imbedded on it It’s still my favorite one.😂
I saw some dirty pours on Pinterest and loved them. Didn't have the room to set up a station so didn't attempt it. Now I've moved and will probably be able to try some Your poures are stunning. Thank you for demonstrating your techniques
Aww Julie it is pretty and happy it turned out great . And I don’t mind you ranting lol you are very interesting to listen to and great at what you do . I hope you never stop . 😉❤️
@@amandareyneke5596 Hi Amanda... no, I did not get an answer jet... but, the Lady has showen some of her work after it dryed... Julie realy does awesome work... I do pouring my self for about 4 years... and, I just cant stop.... lol... it is so much fun... only I do big pour with palet about 2m x 1m... with kind regards... Feelice (*_*)
Thank you for replying. I can just imagine how much fun it is. I have not started yet, but love any art or craft where the outcome is a nice surprise, that is why I love painting in water colour also. One do get to the point where one will get to know plus minus how it will be but the total outcome is still a surprise (mostly 😁😁). Enjoy
I’m glad you showed us that we can use Elmers glue all. I really want to do this but I’m still learning and not quite sure what all I need!!!! This one is awesome
That effect with the 'mounds' in the paint cup is called a trace in baking or soap making. Its where it leaves a 'trace" of the dropped liquid before it melts back into the surface. THis was a REALLY helpful video. Im going to change several things iM doing.
This is one of the coolest paintings I've ever seen. I'm a bit late here, but quick question - what are the little stands in the corners keeping the canvas off of the table? I tried pouring this past weekend and it was tedious to keep lifting the canvasses off the table, and quite messy.
wet your entire canvas next time ... and smal cups in your corners? then the paint doesnt build up or damn up at the dry edge... slippery-er makes more gradient cells. love ya thanks for filming.
Congratulations on your beautiful pour!! I absolutely love it! Thankyou for sharing your talent and knowledge, it's greatly appreciated! I'm going to start pouring myself soon. I'm so excited! Wow! Your work is amazing! All those amazing cells and colors!! Thankyou once again.
I use glue and water without any oils and it still produces amazing cells. She is right about the glue water ratio .. to get the best cells without oils tho use a scales and weigh it out in grams. Make your mixes 2/1 ... For every say 20 grams of glue and water mix add ten grams of paint.... 40 grams glue mix add 20 ...80 to 40 and so on. You will be surprised at the result without the oils..
Hi, Question ….I want to make some Place Mats & Coasters, would they be able to with stand any heat and if so what materials are required? Also thanks for the videos.
Your canvas is happy, too! Love how you got an accidental smiley face in that middle section. Once I noticed it, I was yelling, "Don't stretch, don't stretch!" every time you tilted.
yep. don't hold it very close tho. its easy to scorch your paint and it can also blow the paint a bit and if its started to skin, you will get dents that just are horrible. so keep it far away and make more passes rather than close.
Sorry, I'm a visual learner. Is it possible to do a tutorial from the very beginning. when you are combining the actual ingredients in the cups (paint, glue, water, floetrol? The one part this or the two parts that or 60% glue to 40% water can be a little confusing. Are you filling to a specific line or marker on the cup?
Yes, very nice but prefer you show from the real beginning, and for foreigners you speak very fast, sorry but I would really like understand everything. You are not the responsible but if you can help us, it would be fantastic. Thank you so much. Have a great day.
Me too. Lost in the first two minutes. It's not at all patronising to treat your viewers like five year olds! Some of us come here with no knowledge whatsoever of fancy ingredients.
I have just found paint pouring and have spent HOURS watching your videos. This is one of my FAVOURITE of your pieces. The colours are sublime. Can't wait to get myself some paint so I can pretty up these canvasses I have ready and waiting!
Your title is misleading. 1:02 "I'm using treadmill silicone ..." Silicone is what helps make more cells. It's still beautiful, please don't get me wrong, but it's also not just glue and water. It's beautiful cells with glue, water, and silicone.
It's a title that is geared toward getting hits if we're being brutally honest here. Otherwise why even say only glue and water? Not being mean just making an observation
It says Glue & water as a pouring medium in title. Whats misleading about that? Silicone is added to the overall mix, just like the paint.... I don't get where you're coming from.
