yay Dael brought back the babidas. ghostfire should include a Dael with every book to nurture our sparks. or maybe just a Dael sticker to save on shipping :D
I ran my first (official) table for strangers at a local con last year and it was great. I nearly pulled the trigger at running another table at GenCon this year but chickened out, BUT THAT BEING SAID, if you are nervous about running an official table at a con, go and sit down at an open gaming table. You'll probably be able to get 3-4 people to sit down for a few hours and get your practice in.
I was sad to see Brawler abandoned. Not that I think the version they tried was any good, but I like the idea in general. I remember some people saying you don't need brawler as an unarmed martial because we already have monk, but monk is a totally different fantasy. Brawlers would be either STR primary for offense or STR/DEX capable rather than being DEX and WIS focused. Having said that it's probably possible to fulfill the brawler fantasy adequately with feats and fighting styles, but the ones we have in the 2014 rules make for a pretty gimped fighter. Not saying that a brawler that doesn't use weapons should be as capable as a polearm master in every situation. But it would be cool to have a niche and to do okay in general. In 2014 rules not using weapons as anything but a monk is just a meme build and really only kinda works if you're a grappler.
Yea love the tavern Just an idea i might use .Complete/go through one story .Add wandering taven to the story as a quest within a side quest .Have the Character's join the wandering tavern at the existing level .Complete wandering tavern .have the player enter the old campaign with the way its changed & new events or have them enter a new campaign at their existing level
Been playing a psi warrior for over a year now and the story of the subclass may seem disparate, but as a Gith it fits perfect. He’s an absolute unit and I feel that the mechanics do merge w the story especially for this intergalactic interloper of mine. I bridged the gap and it is a boss for sure. But to each their own
Big disagree on Paladins marrying martial and spellcasting well, particularly on smite. It's just lessening your spellcasting ability to trade it for your sword to do a larger amount of damage flavored in different colours (or default radiant).
Instead of an extra attack have the monster hunter deal more damage the larger the target is. I think multiclass options are just way 2 much atm I think.
The Osi classes ARE a NICHE flavor.. no mat,e love em for the appropriate campaign, but veyr niche.. i hate to see one of the core ROGUE subclasses (Thief, Swashbuckler, Assassin or Arcane Trickster) get dropped for such a NICHE subclass.
About the benefit of GMing at conventions - yes, BUT if you're specifically looking to run new player tables and introduce new people to the hobby, GET GOOD FIRST, or you will be the reason someone tries once and decides this is absolutely not for them. You don't need to be a rockstar, just be fairly competent and spend some time figuring out how to GM specifically for mildly interested newbies. If my first session ever was the Pathfinder game I joined at MCM London last year, I would have run in the opposite direction, fast.
If anyone is interested - the table was me, three Teenage Chaos Gremlins and a couple (nerd boyfriend and extremely bored girlfriend). The GM opened with explaining the action economy and letting us pick full pre-gen characters, and then read a huge paragraph of box text packed with lore and names we didn't know, delivered in a rushed, mumbled monotone. When we told him we had no idea what he said, he looked at us for a second and then read the whole thing again. So we had no idea what our mission was to begin with, other than "go to a place, find a person and get something from her", with zero context. Then he gave us almost nothing to interact with, and finally we got into a bar fight with some pirates. At that point the Boyfriend went to the bathroom, the Girlfriend got up and left without a word two minutes later (they didn't return) and the Teenage Gremlins were not interested in the adventure at all, they just wanted to blow things up. We did eventually "succeed" (got out of the pirate tavern with the thing we came there to pick up), but it was an absolute trainwreck. So the lesson is - if you're part of something like AL, Pathfinder Society or a TTRPG group organizing games at a LFGS, please try to get them to properly vet the GMs if they're invited to a convention...
I don't agree with this take that Psionics and Magic are the same. Psionics are of the mind, using mental power to supplement or replace physical strength. The problem is that spells are used to replicate basically every aspect of the game. When it comes to Psionics you are looking for things like telepathy, telekinesis, psychic energy/damage.
While I use DnD as a term to mean darn near every TTRPG system and is more akin to "you have a pencil and an imagination; then you have DnD"; I'm always fairly attuned to my own expectations to new editions for any system. First and foremost, if the product turns out to be exactly what they described in their last video; I'll easily save myself $50. As a long time DM, I simply do not require a "reformatting" of their core books. I've already established fixes to near any issue from 5e's core books, and I've always allowed my players to describe their actions as they see fit ("I cast Fireball" vs. "I smash bat guano and sulfur between my fingers before uttering the arcane words, as the components heat up and ignite.."). Even if I don't purchase them, because perhaps I'm not the target audience, I do hope they are presented in a way that helps more people attempt DMing. That's a healthy view whether you're a stout WoTC customer, or an enjoyer of other systems. We can always use more. I'll have to see what balancing changes are made to decide if the juice is worth the squeeze. After all, with so many great 3rd party creators out there building proper homes atop WoTC's foundations... those trees have always bared fruit. I am still adamant: they NEED to move back towards the setting/class splatbooks. At a $20 fee ($10 digital pdf) they would make more money, and players may actually purchase their favored classes books. Because I've made it known to my players, I will only be purchasing the books impactful/helpful in running games; I will not be purchasing player facing content because I never play...so why would I? Gone are the days where I pay $50 for what amounts to $20 worth of content for me, the DM. And I'm not going to be "renting" my purchased content; the players can simply purchase the content they are interested in on DnDBeyond piecemeal (I think some classes cost like $5-$10 or so). I have moved near entirely to digital pdf downloads for everything, even purchased content. Yes, I currently have 127 (last count lol) hardcover TTRPG books across various editions and systems; but they all just got boxed up because I had to finish my built in shelves for minis (covering about 90% of the walls in my 20x30 garage; a little over 7,000 minis with two file cabinets filled with all remastered/redesigned monsters). My gaming room has simply run out of space to display more books. Thus, digital is the way to go moving forward for me. But it will be digital content that I OWN, not renting on some site cause they tend to go down and not last forever.
It is widely accepted that the wizard is the best class. How will you go about balancing the class to not end up with a bunch of MH - wizard multiclasses?
i love Wizards but i hate this ide aof Wizards are better than eveyr o0the rclass. they are awesome, they have their strengths, but they dont have th eskill selection of rogues, the AC/or HPs of martial classes and they dont even do as much single target damage as msot martial classes.. People see one firebal or a great crod contorl sepll and LSOE THEIR FRIGGIN INDS!! OOOH mages are too powerful.. ITs horsecrap..As a wizard i cant od my job, if someone isnt up fornt dong their thing and doing it well. i Enjoy paying a awizar,d i cna also enjoy playing a Fighte,r ROgue or Barbaarian.. its a team sport and not eveyrone can play QB.. sopmeones gotta block, somees gotta run the ball and someone has to catch those Touchdowns.
