I agree with the labour vs desk job comparison but when you look at longevity, the ability to work geographically wherever you want the computer work is where it’s at for me

Have you thought about putting the boiler outside or building a mini lean-to plant room to save space inside?

You’re supposed to put the floor down first, then it doesn’t matter where your non load bearing studwork goes. Also insulate the floor, cover it with dpm then it will stay clean. We build the walls on the dpm then cut it out once roof is on, keep’s everything dry.

I love your anecdotes, I think the rest of us would have looked at that London property and backed away especially with the money involved and you went for it, fair play, love that the old money on the street doesn’t know what to make of it, good on you👍

That's the sub floor. He mentioned in the last video he will be putting insulation on top of the sub floor then chipboard flooring something on the lines anyway.

I have lived almost 7 decades.Have done ok.Can tell you that I wish I had been a gardener and spent 8 hrs a day in nature and loving it so yes, I agree. The world is changing rapidly now and once you get your home done you need a spiritual practice because this world is done.Be brave because you need to be.

Just a thought, but some type of membrane may be good under the floor to reduce the moisture coming up from the ground and rotting the joists over time…?

Wrong.if anything you would have it on top of the joists

What are the edges of your floor going to rest on round the perimeter, the floor will sag over time. Also the bath idea will creat massive cold bridging which will mean mildew and mould. The bath will also move over time, which will mean split silicone regularly. Please heed some of the advice in the comments, there’s lots of experience here

I hated my day job. I was working in a benefits office, my highest salary without overtime was around £24,000 I got out by buying a wreck of a house and renovating it slowly over about 7 or 8 years as I could never borrow the money to fund it and spent a fortune on credit cards. I was finished just before Covid hit but couldn’t sell until a year ago. I bought another wreck and now have no mortgage, packed in my full time job and am now working part time so I still have an income. Going to try for a BTL mortgage after new year so I can buy a house to rent out.

Here's a story about judging a book buy its cover, the ceo of rockstar games looks like an old school mosher, they share an office with a ftse 100 finance company. The ceo of the finance company didn't hold the door after him and let it slam shut on the ceo of rockstar games. What ensued was the greatest dressing down of the ceo of the finance company

i bought it couple weeks back and was very disappointed. very low effort overall and not worth pushing like he does. the 1k a month wasnt matched betting but charging finders fees for informing developers of potential redevelopments. he doesnt go into any detail or anything like that and just says “ill explain this in a later newsletter” multiple times in every one. loads of typos and spelling mistakes as well, clearly rushed and not very helpful.

I did that when I was younger, I regret it now but I was able to catch up later, some of my friends didn’t. One friend is in his 50s, driving an Amazon van and paying a fortune in rent to a landlord - the thing is that he was able to buy a house years before me, he ended up losing it later because of too much boozing. 🙄

During my student years didn't get my first job until 2014 in Subway. It was tough because my CV was not up to scratch and no one gave me the opportunity to shine in any sector. Also, the interviewer owners preferred their own candidates regardless experience or inexperience. After graduating at University, I tried to focus my field in filmmaking and unsuccessfully career progress. I focussed as a filmmaker runner and still working in H&M. Before the living wage increased at H&M, I used to earn low money and difficult saving up money. It was more difficult finding a 2nd job to support my daily expenses. I had to wait Covid was over and apply for more jobs. Now I am working three jobs to save up more money and spend necessary means - food and growing my own organic herbs. Plan to grow my own fruit and vegetables. Through the years, I was no saint because I did waste money materialism especially on trainers, clothes and fragrances. My goal is to buy not rent someone's place. Another option, I would like to build a tiny house. It is my dream. I am an avid watching living big in a tiny house channel. Lots of inspirations and learning new methods to live self sufficient.

Matey…very few Doctors pursue that career to make money. Your 30 odd year old Doctor will have saved and changed many lives compared to your average bricklayer. Not belittling bricklayers but that is the reality.

Working my way through this series. Enjoying the build very much. But the 'improve your life' monologues are getting tiresome. Just because it's worked out nicely for you doesn't mean anyone can do it. We don't all have family and friends to fund a London reno, for example. Moan aside, really admire the determination and graft. Well done.

Clearly doesn’t know cause no floors before walls, no subfloor insulation and vermin barrier or vapour barrier, no first fix plumbing, no electrics laid out, skylights for windows.. the list goes on. It’s very unconventional but it’ll end up with myriad issues wanting to be rectified. Fun to watch though, not much progress in the last 10 days besides gluing in windows.
@firstmate015
@firstmate015 5 месяцев назад
I have wondered the same thing since he started this uconventional build. It would NOT pass code EVER where I live and that's probably he's building in the dark and away from the public eye. it will fall down in less than 5 years. And he uses screws instead of nails which makes this tiny house unsafe in a wind storm. @@Marco-qc9yu
