When ppl make comments like " Oh she's gonna be better than Venus & Serena." It can seem like a compliment but that just puts more added pressure on the individual. When they don't reach that level..they will immediately get called overrated or a failure. We're seeing it with Coco & she's not even an adult yet.
@tennisprodigyinc.8384
@tennisprodigyinc.8384 3 года назад
Not only does she push herself, she has a huge respect for those that came before her. She can’t help people making that assumptions but to continue doing what she’s doing. Her results will speak for itself when it’s her time.
@randyb5579
@randyb5579 3 года назад
Agreed. We've been hearing these "next big thing" conversations since the ascendency of Chris Evert and the clones who followed. I wish adults and marketing teams wouldn't label kids as "prodigy" or "phenom" unless said junior is making an impact at the pro level - semis in high school, winning by 20; and keeps on winning for a decade.
@tennisprodigyinc.8384
@tennisprodigyinc.8384 3 года назад
@@randyb5579 she is one because she’s doing things that hasn’t been done. How many players do you know start winning that early? It’s usually the other way around but like those before her.... it depends on how she’s managed so her game continues to elevate to avoid any burn outs.

I totally agree. There will only ever be one Serena Williams. And this is not disrespect to this young talent. We have seen how added pressure can crack even the most precious of young gems. Let this young woman be who she is meant to be without comparison to the greatest female athlete of all time. This is unnecessary pressure that even Serena & Venus didn't have growing up. Let her be who she is meant to be and accept her for that. Trust that it will all workout the way that it should.

The legacy of the Williams sisters will live long after they've hung up their rackets. It's amazing to see more black girls be inspired to play what was once a rich white man's sport. They broke more boundaries like the ones before them. Tbh that's way more valuable than all of their titles put together.
@hx3500

Your knowledge of the sport does not have much depth.... There were black female tennis professionals long before the advent of Venus & Serena. So you should ask the question: From whom did Venus & Serena get their inspiration?

@@hx3500 arguably, the Williams sisters legacy are greater than the Arthur Ashe or Athea Gibsons purely because of their dominance and style. Strive to be the greatest, the pressure of being greater than the G.O.A.T. carries to much pressure as there are off the court balances in time to come. @@ultraviolet6989 quality wise yes it is a great time for women's tennis. The only thing she is lacking is a big sister like Venus. Serena had Venus to aspire to and emulate. Venus was her sister, best friend, practice partner, doubles partner.. Serena won a grand slam before Venus, but Venus’s success over 2000-2001 really pushed Serena to ascend to the top in 2002. People remember Serena’s first “Serena Slam” (2002 Roland Garros - 2003 Australian Open) but people forget that Venus was a finalist in all 4 of the Slam finals Serena won. Tennis is a lot harder to play than I had originally though. I'm pretty good at most sports.. Until I tried playing tennis.

Thats because tennis requires years of practice and training to be good. You cannot be good at tennis just by being strong or fast or athletic its a skill sport

Tennis is extremely hard to play at a good level. Most people think its easy because its easy to hit the ball over the net. But if you actually want to play good, it involves much more than that.

Being better than Serena is ambitious but it will be way harder than you’ll understand if you don’t have the weapons Serena has you can’t do it. However I support up and coming black queens so you got my support

What is very cool to see she is loving working very hard and having her Dad encouraging her to work on everything in her game. I really love that he has her coming to the net working over and over on those traditional volleys 👍👍

This is great. Venus and Serena inspire young girls to great. In the 90's the saying was I wanna be like Mike. Now the goal is to be like Serena. Greatness in the making. There is nothing wrong with wanting to be the best. Reach for the stars. But if not at least you will land on the moon
